The Eagles didn’t have to look far to find their new offensive coordinator.

Brian Johnson is being promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The offensive coordinator position in Philadelphia became vacant when Shane Steichen was hired as the Colts’ head coach after the Super Bowl. Johnson was considered a potential offensive coordinator for other teams, but he ultimately decided to stay put and get a promotion.

The primary head coach of the Eagles’ offense is head coach Nick Sirianni, but Sirianni wants the offensive coordinator to call plays, and that will now be Johnson’s job.

  1. Obvious move and a good one especially for Hurts. Eagles doing good things. I think they should also go with Denard Wilson as the DC. Those coaches really got the best out of that team. But they need LB’s as that middle was soft in the SB.

    He rocked for AC/DC

Maybe one of his playcalls will be “Thunderstruck”

  3. I wonder whether Johnson will have Hurts do things any differently then Steichen did?
Will he be more pass oriented than Steichen was? Less RPO?

  4. In house promotion and he has known Hurts since he was a kid. Hurts dad coached him in high school and he tried to recruit Hurts twice in college. Keeping that chemistry with a familiar coach for Hurts is important.

They should. The Eagles have been the only consistently good team in the division.

  7. Less RPO’s this year. Hand it off or Shoot For Thrills to the receivers more. Less running for saving his body for the playoffs.

  8. Smart transition for the Eagles and great career move by Brian. Eagles have tremendous offensive success NEXT year and Brian has put himself into position for some HC interviews.
