Kwesi Adofo-Mensah: Justin Jefferson contract a high priority

At the end of the Vikings season, wide receiver Justin Jefferson was asked about being eligible for an extension this offseason and said that he’ll be in Minnesota if the Vikings want him in Minnesota.

It’s no surprise that the Vikings want Jefferson around after watching him put up huge numbers over his first three seasons in the league. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said at a Tuesday press conference from the Scouting Combine that he has no interest in being part of the organization if Jefferson isn’t also in the house.

“I don’t want to be the Vikings G.M. without that guy on our team,” Adofo-Mensah said. “It’s a high priority. We gotta make sure that we do it in the order that we can do it in, obviously, given all the other decisions we need to make.”

The Vikings have some work to do to get under the cap by the start of the league year and that likely accounts for the other decisions that Adofo-Mensah referenced in Tuesday’s answer. Once that’s been taken care of, Jefferson’s extension will likely move front and center in Minnesota.

  1. I watched a bunch of Viking games where Kirk Cousins chucked the ball to JJ in double coverage and JJ came up with it.
It padded Cousins stats, but it was 100% due to JJ being a football vacuum cleaner.

If they didn’t have JJ, they would have lost so many games.

JJ is extremely valuable to them and I’d pay up for him.

  2. I don’t want them to pay a WR “Cant fill other positions with top talent” money.

I would rather trade him for a kings ransom. I love the dude, but he only got 8 TD’s last year, and the Vikings were still a 1st round exit in the playoffs.

  3. Did Jefferson play in the wild card game? I didn’t see him make a catch (snarky sarcasm).

  4. With only four draft picks and a salary cap mess, JJ’s value to the team will never be higher… but only if they have the stones to do what’s right and trade him.

  5. To make Vikings better you have to get rid of Kirk Cousins. JJ make Kirk look like an Pro-Bowler.

  6. “Cue all those that say Justin Jefferson is not that good and not worth that much.”

He’s not worth that much. Let me give you an example. They compare Justin Jefferson’s stats with Randy Moss’s all the time. Except one stat:

JJ TD through first three years: 25
Moss TD through first three years: 43 – and he had CC on the other side bleeding red zone targets away, and 3 different Qb’s.

A guy that generates double digit TD’s every year? Yes, you give him that contract. A guy that gives you 25 in 3 years? You don’t send your team into cap hell for that.

  7. For heaven’s sake J.J. don’t do it!
Don’t sign another contract with this horrible franchise.

The Vikings organization has squandered and wasted more generational talent than almost any other team in the league history.
Alan Page, Fran Tarkington, Chris Doleman, Randy Moss, Brett Favre and even Adrian Peterson are all clear examples of the wastefulness of this insipid, dumpster fire of an organization Hell bent on ruining what would otherwise be stellar careers.
And now, Justin Jefferson looks to be the latest in a long line to step in the same steaming pile.

How this team hasn’t won a Championship in 62 years of football is a complete travesty. A joke, really.
You’d almost think they’d won one by accident by now…..but no.
So sad, but unfortunately, so predictable. 😞

I watched every play, and JJ was open….a lot. Also, who is the fool that is judging based solely on TD catches? Yikes. Any football being played between the 20’s where he’s from?

    I prefer WR’s who don’t choke in the clutch.///////////////////////

There isn’t 1 packer WR that has done anything clutch or otherwise.

Do you think having Hall of Famer Cris Carter on the other side might have contributed a bit to Moss’ success? He did more than just steal targets, he stole coverage.

Moss and JJ are also different kinds of receivers. Moss was a deep ball threat who could run by you and jump over you to catch those home run balls, but he never ran a route over the middle. It was Carter that you would go to when you need a first down. Jefferson is more like Carter than Moss. He’s a premier route runner with great hands, not a physical freak who wins with athleticism.

  11. Cris Carter didn’t help Moss he was yelling for the ball all game long. And after the game he was trying to take credit for how good Moss was by saying he trained him.

  12. You really tried to slip Bret Favre in your list of players the Vikings wasted their talent, absurd.

  13. Yep get these guys signed so the purple clown show can continue!

  14. Justin Jefferson is the best player to have never won a playoff game. Just ask him.
