Dave Ziegler: Davante Adams will be involved in QB conversations

About a month ago, Raiders receiver Davante Adams said it would be a “dream scenario” to play with quarterback Aaron Rodgers again.

Rodgers could be in play for Las Vegas — if he decides he not only wants to play, but also wants to play for a different team.

Either way, the Raiders need a quarterback and Adams figures to be that signal-caller’s top receiving target in 2023. Given Adams’ status as one of the best receivers in the league, Las Vegas has decided to get Adams involved in the process of selecting the next QB1.

“He’s earned the right to be kept in that loop. Josh [McDaniels] and I feel that way, by what he’s accomplished and who he is as a player and who he is as a leader on that team,” General Manager Dave Ziegler said Tuesday, via Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So, he’ll be involved in those conversations.”

Ziegler noted that he and Adams have developed a particularly close relationship over the last year and the two have “pretty fluid” conversations about quarterbacks and other positions on the roster.

But it’s not like Adams is some sort of shadow G.M.

“Davante knows he’s not selecting who the quarterback is,” Ziegler said. “But he’ll be involved in the process, and we’ll bounce some ideas off him. Ultimately, again it’s going to be the decision that we’re going to make, and he understands and respects that at the same time.”

In his first season with Las Vegas, Adams caught 100 passes for 1,516 yards with a league-leading 14 touchdowns.

  1. About a month ago, Raiders receiver Davante Adams said it would be a “dream scenario” to play with quarterback Aaron Rodgers again.

But when he left GB he said he really wanted to play with, his college qb, Carr.

  2. It’s probably too late for that. When his contract is almost up, he’s definitely going to “test the market,” aka politely declining and getting the hell out of dodge.

  3. Are we really surprised the Raiders are involving a Wide Receiver in their personnel decisions? Adams had 100 catches for 1500 yds. and 14 tds. as the Raiders went 6-11, maybe that should be his only job with the team. However, as a fan of a fellow AFC West team, I welcome this.

  4. Did Russell Wilson call Davante and tell him he needed to ask for an office?

  5. His best friend is available in free agency… Bad franchises make bad decisions because they have bad owners, time and time again

  6. As a Chiefs fan, I can’t say that I harbor anything favorable opinions concerning the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland/Vegas Raider franchise.

The entire franchise has never recovered from their last Super Bowl beatdown and today they are an annual clown show. Irascible Al flailed about for the last ten years, then the inheritor with the bowl haircut and the silver spoon in his back pocket was appointed lead decision monkey…

There’s simply too much low hanging fruit with the Raiders. Easy pickings.

  7. No team should include active players in front office personnel decisions. Never.

  8. I’d definitely want to hear Davante’s opinion on any quarterback, from wanting to go play with Derek Carr to being a dream to go play with a two year older Aaron Rodgers than he last did, he’s so amazingly bad at this I’d be looking to recruit the first guy he hates….

  9. Why? He has been there a year. How about involving the ones who have been there and have skin in the game!

  10. Just listening to this weasel talk about QB and Sims sorry ass you know he has no clue what he is doing without Daddy Bill. Raiders made a huge mistake again 🙄

  11. It’s funny how Chiefs fans only focus on their recent run of undeniable success while ignoring the decades of mediocrity that lead up to it.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

……and this is only ONE of the colossally brain-dead moves the Packers’ front office made while dealing with Aaron Rodgers.

  13. Only terrible fraud franchises do this ever even as a joke. GMs make the decisions not the players. I see another 4-5 wins for them next year.

  14. D Adams is a pretty sharp character. He’s no dummy. He knows what works and what doesn’t. I’d take his input on QB’s as good info for final evaluation.

  15. Davante’s characterization of playing with Aaron as a “dream scenario” is a perfect example of grass always looking greener on the other side of the fence. He DID play with Aaron until the grass started looking greener in Oakland and Derek Carr. When he got there he discovered weeds on that lawn, not greener grass.
