Kevin Stefanski: I think Deshaun Watson is very excited about what we’ll do offensively

While the Browns went 3-3 in Deshaun Watson‘s six starts after he served his 11-game suspension to begin the 2022 season, Watson looked far from an elite quarterback on the field.

Watson completed just 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,102 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 175 yards with a TD.

Watson will have the full offseason program and training camp to get more comfortable in Cleveland’s offense for 2023. in his Wednesday press conference, head coach Kevin Stefanski said he’s still been in communication with Watson throughout the offseason, though the pair can’t talk about football.

But before Watson left for the offseason, Stefanski noted he and Watson were able to get on the same page “on everything.”

“How we meet, how we structure practice, making sure he’s comfortable with different things,” Stefanski said at the Combine. “So, you know, you talk about everything under the sun with players in an exit meeting, and certainly try to do the same with Deshaun.

“I know we’re seeing the game very similarly. I think he’s very excited about what we’re going to be doing offensively, what we’ll be doing as a team, and I think he’s excited to go play some football in the spring and summer.”

Watson’s preseason debut may or may not come in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 3, which the Browns will play against the Jets.

  1. Desean is on the offensive? Better lock up the massage tables and break out the NDA’s!

  2. To Myles and the Content Editor:

Hmmm…It’s a given that Watson is excited….This is NOT news and the headline is not adding a fresh scoop….This subject would ONLY be interesting if Watson balked at Stefanski’s proposed offense scheme or some other related “tension”…Currently, I am wondering why the thesis of this article was approved?

    Respectfully….DE

  3. I wonder how it feels for Kevin Stefanski to sell a little more of his soul every day he works with and speaks about the unrepentant serial abuser he is working with.

What a shameful state for coaches and fans. I would say players and owners too, but the players have been so conspicuously silent that they’ve sent the message that sex abuse is a-ok with them. And of course, owners have shown they have no morality at all.

Interesting take, but give ’em a break… there’s not exactly a boatload of groundbreaking NFL news this time of year. They have to write about SOMETHING.

  5. Kevin Stefanski has a lot of Alex Murdaugh in him….he’s Avery good liar

  6. i m sorry but i still find it just disgusting this guy was ever allowed back in the league. giving him that contract just makes it even worse. whats it gonna take to clean up the league? i think we can all live without the “talents” of scum like deshaun in the sport

  7. Browns fans selling their moral souls every day the back this deplorable human being!

  8. how great would it have been if stefanski resigned or threatened resignation due to the signing of this bum. something like that would have went a long way with the image of the league and im 100 percent sure he would have been quickly scooped up by another team.

  9. Imagine if they still had OBJ but Stefanski backed the wrong horse in that race. How’s Baker doing?

  10. I hope that the Browns finish at the bottom of the AFC North. Watson should have been banned from the league.

  11. Simmer down coach, as we all know, Deshawn’s excitement trigger is relatively low

  12. I’m a proud member of the “Deshaun Watson has blocked you” on Facebook, Twitter, & IG club

  13. Remember he had no interest in being a Brown until they threw unprecedented money at him. If he balls out, I expect him to ask for a trade by year 3

  14. I have a feeling Watson will never live up to that contract. Browns do like the Browns do this next season and it’ll get interesting.

  15. “Some guys you don’t want to bring into your locker room”

    – Kevin Stefanski talking about draft picks character

  16. That’s great to be excited about football. But it’s March 1st. No games are scheduled. That’s the long way of saying Show Me!

  17. Do they not realize he has nothing to really ply for. He gets 53 million to show up

  18. Watson looked far from an elite quarterback on the field
    ==============

When was Watson ever an elite QB? One good season doesn’t make a QB elite!

  19. Cleveland went .500 with a rusty Deshaun Watson whose stats included one game where it was 8 below zero who still put up better numbers than Baker Mayfield did on two different teams in one year.

I don’t think Cleveland is too worried right now if they made the wrong decision. If they were then Jacoby Brissett played well enough he probably could have gotten them a wild card spot showing everyone that Baker was definitely a system QB.

  20. Deshaun couldn’t care less what You do offensively just keep the large checks coming.

  21. i m sorry but i still find it just disgusting this guy was ever allowed back in the league. giving him that contract just makes it even worse.
    __________

At least we will get the delayed gratification of watching it all fall apart. He’s nowhere close to being the QB the Browns imagined and with that contact they’re always going to be a few pieces short of really contending.
