Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer is on the way out in New England.

The Patriots are expected to cut Hoyer by the start of the new league year on March 15, according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Hoyer is heading into the second year of a two-year, $4 million contract and $1.4 million of his salary for this season is guaranteed, but the Patriots have apparently decided it’s time to move on even though he’ll still cost $1.64 million against their salary cap this year.

The 37-year-old Hoyer has spent a total of eight seasons with the Patriots over three separate stints and has also spent time with the Steelers, Cardinals, Browns, Texans, Bears, 49ers and Colts.

  1. Been in the league 14 yrs and did zero. Not a bad way to make $33 Mill in career earnings.

  2. Now find a vet backup QB who isn’t 0-11 in his last 11 games. Plsthxbye.

  3. Sounds like a good career to me. Guy’s not great but he’s laughing all the way to the bank.

  4. Thank you Brian Hoyer for stepping in with a good game. propelling me to a crucial win during my regular qb’s bye week in the 2014 fantasy football season. IIRC correctly you had a good year overall for the Browns.

  5. Players and coaches say Hoyer is a great teammate and is a valuable scouting asset. Nobody thinks he’s going to lead a team to victory. He’s just a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency guy. If he’s interested, I hope he finds a spot in scouting/coaching.

  6. Waste of position. He should have been hired as coach or assistant for the last few years.

  7. Nice work if you can get it. Make millions and don’t even have to wash your jersey.

  8. Good guy, good team mate, hard worker, good discipline, reliable but not enough talent. Why is it that the talent goes all too often to jackasses? Good luck forward to Hoyer.

  9. He’s still better than Tua simply based on the fact he’s available more than Glass man ever is

  10. He probably has made enough money to do whatever he wants. He sounds like a coach waiting to happen. He knows more about the various organizations throughout football than most people. He probably has a favorite city or 3 and organization or 2.
Time to take a year break of at home time and weigh the options.
It would be interesting if NE offered him a job. They’re already paying him. I’m sure he has offset money so, if he wanted to play it would be close to free too.

  11. This means the Patriots are drafting a QB. Last year they played a 3rd string QB, Bailey Zappe. They need 3 QBs on the roster.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

If Mac Jones still stays with Pats, that means Mr. Kraft takes over the control on offense.

Mac Jones did something behind Belichick, that is something Belichick will never tolerate.

  13. Pats fans always used to brag that they had the “best 2 QB’s in the AFC East.”

Man, are those days long gone.

  14. The one time NE actually needed him in a game he threw up all over himself. Waste of a roster spot for years now.

  15. Despite never being starter material he has managed to provide a large amount of value to the team in many ways.

  16. I can’t see the Patriots drafting Richardson unless they strike a deal with Raiders to trade Mac and a 2nd rounder for the 7th pick.

I think McDaniels likes pocket passers and can’t draft an unknown for the QB position. They have great offensive weapons and Mac could play point guard.

Belichick has learned playing Mahomes, Allen and Jackson that athletic QBs that can throw and run put huge pressure on defenses. The Patriots didn’t force defenses to defend the whole field. Richardson would.

Alas, I don’t expect him to still be there when the Raiders pick at #7.

Patriots would also have to cough up #14. At least.

I remember when Bills fans called themselves the future, but the future never came. It was very sad
