The Saints are continuing to restructure contracts as they work to get ready for the start of the new league year.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that linebacker Demario Davis and tight end Taysom Hill are the latest players to have their contracts reworked. The moves created $12.724 million in cap space for the 2023 season.

Davis started every game last season and finished the year with 106 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Hill ran 96 times for 575 yards and seven touchdowns while also catching nine passes for 77 yards and two scores. He completed 13-of-19 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.

The Saints have also created cap space by tweaking the contracts of safety Tyrann Mathieu, right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, safety Marcus Maye, center Erik McCoy, and kicker Wil Lutz. They also signed defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon to a contract extension.

  1. Good job. Both are key team members. Still feel Hill is a viable option for qb. Last season was showing accuracy as a passer, run skills are proven. Needs to improve speed of reads/ going through progressions. Also has good route running and catching skills. Davis is simply an elite, dependable lb.

  2. No mention of the exact sums they’ve pushed into the future? It must be hefty.

Your post makes it sound like this is just standard operating procedure and not the actions of a terribly run front office.

  3. This team should have blew it up after Brees left, their moves are so baffling to me. Such a weird mishmash of talented players but no QB and bad contracts (Hill, Thomas). This kicking the can crap has gone on for so long, it’s almost like they can do it forever, but why not just bottom out and start over???

  4. Lol so much restricting for a team going nowhere. Restructures are fine if you still have a contender but the saints have no future and should have rebuilt after Bree’s left

  5. The Saints are so weird. Never seen anything like it with how much they love to perpetually owe massive credit card debt because they’re under the illusion that they have a Super Bowl roster. They are in denial year over year over year – and they go nowhere. Incoming another 7-9 type season, and Cam Jordan still finding a way to try to take a jab at Tampa because of his never ending jealousy of their Super Bowl during the yr they thought was theirs

  6. Sounds like both players will be leaving and this is a move just to make trades easier.

  7. Never forget that Sean Payton gave a gadget player $10m a year. Going to be fun watching him fail in Denver.
