The Giants announced Daniel Jones‘ four-year contract agreement on Tuesday night.

He was scheduled to become a free agent before agreeing to the deal, allowing the Giants to use the franchise tag on running back Saquon Barkley.

“We had productive conversations with Daniel and his representatives over the course of the past week or so,” General Manager Joe Schoen said in a statement. “We are all pleased that we were able to come to an agreement prior to today’s [franchise tag] deadline. This gives us a greater ability to continue to build our roster.”

Jones, who turns 26 in May, had a breakout season in 2022, his fourth since the Giants selected him sixth overall. He started a career-high 16 regular-season games and threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 708 yards and seven touchdowns.

“I said after the season I love this place,” Jones said. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I want to be here. I have great respect for this organization, the Maras, the Tisches, my coaches and teammates. I am happy we were able to come to an agreement.”

Safety Julian Love, wide receivers Richie James Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard, offensive linemen Jon Feliciano and Nick Gates and and linebacker Jihad Ward are among the Giants players scheduled to become free agents next week.

  1. Danny Dimes proved his worth by getting his team to the playoffs, and then showing well. Unlike other non-tendered free agent QBs who have inflated self-worth, or are managed by another family member.

  2. Giving a mediocre QB $40M per year is a slap in the face to any fan who actually has to work for their money and be good – it’s bad for the game and horrible for the fans, when are we going to ever get a break…every year you keep on jacking up the prices and for what, to watch some terrible qb lose the game. ENOUGH, stop taking our tex money and giving it to these mediocre players

  3. This is why Lamar is right to ask for what he is asking for. Can’t blame him. Less talented players getting the bag.

  4. With that contract in 1 year, DJ is going to make the giants look very, very stupid.

  5. God help the next QB that has to work with Joe Judge. What a career killer that guy is. This contract doesn’t exist with one more year of JJ. Daboll is such an upgrade it’s ridiculous lol

  6. Never say Kirk Cousins is overpaid again! Compared to Jones, he is Dan Marino. Thw.market for average QBs just jumped through the roof!

  7. DJ: I want $48M+ per yr.
JS: Daniel we feel your market value is $35M / yr.
DJ: Then tag me! I dare ya! I double dog dare ya!!
JS: If we tag you, we can’t tag Saquon.
    DJ: SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!

  8. I really question if it took 4yrs for Jones to improve this little(comparing year 1 to year 4), how long will it be before he takes the next step?

  9. Took Mahomes all of what, 2 years, to become massively underpaid if $3M per TD pass is the going rate now

  10. It’s a phenomenal step towards a commitment of mediocrity.

  11. Daniel Jones is the only QB in the modern passing era to play 10+ games for 3 consecutive years and throw fewer TDs than games played every year:
    2020: 14 games played… 11 pass TDs
    2021: 11 games played… 10 pass TDs
    2022: 16 games played… 15 pass TDs

The Giants are (once again) the laughing stock of the league.

  12. As a giants fan, I’m fine with it. It’s the going rate and they can be out after a couple of years of it doesn’t pan out. You can argue it all you want, but how many of you actually watched every giants game over the last 4 years? I don’t blame you for not watching because they sucked, but I bet you didn’t.

  13. After a decade of being near the bottom it’s not surprising to see them settle for mediocre.

  14. I would shake my head when reading about the Dutch tulip bulb market bubble where people paid enormous amounts for flower bulbs. Now I am shaking my head at the Dutch Tulip Quarterback bubble where teams are paying enormous amounts for mediocre to average athletes at this position.

  15. Money well spe……what the hell am I typing????? $40 Mil for Danny Dimes???

  16. I would have signed Gardner Minshew for much less and used the Danny Jones money to build a better roster.

  17. Why does this wreak of Mara tampering with football stuff again? Please say it ain’t so. I really hope this was purely a Schoen decision because it’s hard to fathom DJ making just $5 million less than Mahomes. At this rate, Mahomes next contract will make him the first billion-dollar player.

  18. That is alot of money for someone with 22 total TD’s and 7 turnovers last year.

  19. 3205 yards, 15 TDs.. lol

im sorry, but you could had gotten Andy Dalton to throw for those numbers and it would had been much cheaper.

  20. With the exception of Julian Love, the Giants should be able to re-sign any of those players if they are interested. I can’t see them costing that much cap space.

Allegedly Love wants $10million per season. As much as i love (pardon the pun) how he played last season, if he gets $10 million, it will be on another team.

  21. The New York Giants organization is happy that they came to a $40+ million a year agreement with Jones; but the rest of the NFC East is even happier. They just signed a mediocre QB that they didn’t execute the 5th year option on last season, which would have cost them $22MM for the next year and allowed them more flexibility to sign a new deal a whole season later . . . only to pay him almost twice that. Also they are paying top dollar to two offensive positions to try and keep a 9-6-1 team that barely made the playoffs and only won 1 game within their division.

So Eagles, Dallas and Washington fans are thrilled with these moves.

  22. Read on another site that it’s $160M for 4 yrs. If true, bye bye Giants. The sword of hiring Brian Dabol is double-edged.

  23. $40M per year for 15 touchdown passes. Wow, what would Peyton Manning be worth today?

  24. The Giants played an ultra-conservative low scoring style of football. Daboll coached up Josh Allen and has had a year of firsthand experience with Jones. If he thinks Jones can make a turn when they have better players on defense (so they can open up the playbook) and better players on the offensive side (some quality receivers) than he probably knows more than internet yahoos and talking heads. In three years $40 million will be a bargain if Daboll is right.

Thats a BS stat. If he helps Giants win games thats all that matters. Whether extending plays by running or taking correct decisions.

I dont like DJ but this stat is unnecessary
