DeAndre Hopkins: Right now I’m a Cardinal, preparing for whatever the future holds

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins won’t be a free agent when the new league year opens next week, but there will be eyes on a potential move to a new team all the same.

There’s been a lot of chatter about the Cardinals trading Hopkins and the team has not said anything to make that look like an unlikely development once teams are able to start making trades next week. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Hopkins said that he and his representatives “don’t put anything out there ourselves” but that they are listening to everything that’s being talked about elsewhere.

“I’ve been hearing a lot of trade talks, but I take things day for day,” Hopkins said. “I don’t look forward for the future, I live in the present moment. Right now, the Arizona Cardinals is the team and roster that I’m on. I’m preparing myself for whatever the future holds. I don’t really look forward to the future, I let you guys take care of that.”

Hopkins said recently that one of the places he’s been hearing his name is Dallas and noise about a move could increase significantly in the coming days.

  1. Over thirty coming off a steroid suspension with a gigantic cap hit. He has some of the stickiest hands I’ve seen in the modern game but also makes most of his damage between the 20s. Good number 2/3 guy.

  2. DeAndre Hopkins understandably wants to land on a contender and get a shot at winning a SB before he retires. At 30 he has more seasons behind him than he does in front of him.

  3. AZ loves DHop. We’d hate to see them go. But letting great players go is par for the course here in the desert.

  4. Next year will be a 3 win AZ team. Which means a good draft pick the following year. They should rebuild this year and load up on draft picks. Trading Hopkins is a no brainer.

  6. That was one of the dumbest if not the most disingenuous quotes I’ve ever read. My IQ dropped 10 points just reading it.

If Arizona wants any respect this season, keep him.

I think AZ is going to tear it down and rebuild. They’re looking to reduce payroll and gain draft picks.

  8. Major talent, major head case. Any team trading for him should be ready for both. BoB should have gotten more for him when he essentially threw him off the Texans roster, but he had to go. Hopkins and Watson, what a pair.

D-Hop and Lamb would be a formidable pair of WRs…

Naah- look at who’s throwing the ball. Besides McCarthy wants to “run the damn ball”.

  10. He hasn’t produced in two years, makes big money and has baggage somebody is going to steal a stud with something to prove.

  11. Kansas City Chiefs . They just dumped Frank Clark’s salary they have room. Or Patriots to help Mac Jones .

  12. The Cards are doomed for years w/ little Kyler at QBhes comingoff a major injury he wont ever be the same again. I see maybe 2-3 wins for them next year.

  13. “D-Hop and Lamb would be a formidable pair of WRs…”

Dak prefers to throw the ball to the opposing defense.

  14. Pats. Let Meyers walk in FA and you’re basically swapping Meyers for DHop. Then you get rid of Aghlor.

Parker, Hopkins, Bourne, Thornton, and use either your 1st or 2nd on a WR. That’s not an elite group by any stretch but it’s a lot better than they’ve had in years. Plus you swapped the dumpster fire of Matt Patricia for a true OC in O’Brien. Would be a massive improvement over last year and you would definitely know what you’ve got in Mac Jones.

  15. There’s a good chance we get him in Cleveland. Arizona’s gonna wanna unload his contract and probly draft another receiver to go with Hollywood. I know we don’t have a lot of draft picks now, but we’re probly gonna make a few trades ourselves to ditch some money. Dallas would make sense if they hadn’t basically given us Amari Cooper last year to save money. D-hop and Cooper would be a fearsome combo.

  16. Correction: Chosen Anderson was released…. The news was presented as if it was possibly DHop….but its not.

    Aaaaaaaaanddd….he’s just been released.

    *****

    That’s Anderson, not Hopkins.

  18. When comparing Dhop to OBJ I think that I’d choose DHop, he has better numbers.

Cleveland signed you know who to a 5 year guarantee. They can’t sign anyone else

  20. When all is said and done I think he’ll be a New York Giant. Daniel Jones needs help at wide receiver and they’ll do like the Eagles did a year ago and trade for a great veteran wide receiver.

  21. And here we with the latest episode of “overpay your QB today and have to shed talent tomorrow”!

  22. AZ is a good situation either way, they’re going to end up getting at minimum a 2nd n prolly 4th in trade for Hopkins and they’re most likely trading back in the draft adding another 2nd/3rd to this years pool of draft picks. They’ll likely end up with 8 picks in the top 106 picks with the picks they already have once making a few moves if they trade Hopkins, if they don’t trade Hopkins that’s cool to they still have an elite #1WR. And they have plenty of cap space. They have a lotta resources to quickly build and add talent to the roster with. Murray’s ahead of schedule and will be back fully healthy soon, I’m excited to see what the future holds for the Cards with a new front office running the draft known for their eyes for talent. I couldn’t stomach one more year of watching Steve Keim wasting all of these picks again if he was running the front office.

  23. Cancer in the locker room. He is the issue, not Kyler. Remove the cancer and bring in character guys.
