The Texans don’t know who their quarterback will be, but they do have another weapon for him. Houston, which has the No. 2 overall pick, has agreed to terms with free agent receiver Robert Woods.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports it’s a two-year, $15.25 million deal with $10 million fully guaranteed and a maximum value of $17 million.

The Titans released Woods on Feb. 22 after he caught 53 passes for 527 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.

Woods, a second-round pick in the 2013 draft, spent his first four seasons with the Bills before signing with the Rams in free agency in 2017. He had a pair of 1,000-yard seasons with Los Angeles and was on pace for another in 2021 before tearing his ACL during a November practice.

The Panthers’ trade with the Bears for the No. 1 overall selection puts the Texans in position to take the second quarterback after Carolina presumably makes its pick of the quarterback prospects. Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson or Kentucky’s Will Levis are the top-rated players at the position.

  1. Drafted in 2013 lol. After getting jumped in the draft a couple hours ago, and already wasting money on older stars, look’s like more of the same. Whoever was responsible for drafting Watson, NUK, and Watt I would get those guys back in the building asap.

  2. I was hoping they’d work out a way to bring him back here to LA. Best of luck to him in Texas.

  3. I was hoping the Rams would re-sign him. He’ll be a great player for a rookie QB to lean on.

  4. As a Bills fan, Woods was and is and had always been the real deal who never got the credit he deserved… until now and this deal speaks to that, because bravo to the texans, a team that hasnt deserved any praise in yearsssss. It looks like Demeco is making real changes and strides for this organization. I didnt expect to ever be impressed with them again but here goes, theyre 2 for 2 in my book; great hires!

  5. Just expand the tampering window already. If teams are allowed to do de facto deals 4 days before Free Agency begins what is the point of even having tampering rules? Just make tampering last from February 1st until free agency begins so nobody is caught off guard by the talking between agents and the other teams.

  6. Well, would’ve been nice to see him back in Buffalo. Less well compensated, to be sure. But it would’ve been nice.

  7. Maybe the biggest blunder the Rams made over the last few years was to sign free agent Allen Robinson to a generous contract last year and trading Woods for a sixth round pick. And now they are trying to trade Robinson and will take on more dead cap space. Woods excelled in McVay’s system during his five years with the team and last year Robinson was practically nonexistent before getting injured and missing the rest of the season. What are these people thinking!

  8. Woods was incredible for the Rams. He fit that system perfectly. He should be completely healed from the ACL this season and $5M is a good deal IF they get a good #1 to pair with him.
