Jawaan Taylor agrees to four-year, $80 million deal with Chiefs

The Chiefs didn’t use the franchise tag on left tackle Orlando Brown and their first big splash of free agency involved a different tackle.

Agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey said that their client Jawaan Taylor has agreed to a deal with the reigning Super Bowl champions. It is a four-year deal worth $80 million with $60 million in guaranteed money.

Taylor was a Jaguars second-round pick in 2019 and he’s started every game that Jacksonville has played over the last four seasons. The right tackle did not miss an offensive snap during his first three years in the league and missed just 35 of them during the 2022 season.

Albert Breer of SI.com reports that the plan is for Taylor to play left tackle. Brown also moved from the right side to the left side after joining Kansas City.

Kansas City saw last year’s right tackle Andrew Wylie agree to a deal with Washington on Monday, so they’re still in need of one starter at tackle whether Taylor plays on the left or right side. The size of Taylor’s deal could make another big move unlikely, but the Chiefs will almost certainly be doing more up front in the days to come.

  1. KC had to pay big to get Brown for 2 years, but they got a SB out of it. Brown wants to get paid, so more power to him. But I don’t see teams paying much more than Taylor. Hope Brown’s ego didn’t get in his way.

  2. Bet Orlando is wishing he took the money the Chief’s offered him last year. Pigs get fat Hogs get slaughtered

  3. Welcome to KC Mr. Taylor. Get Used to Winning A Lot of Football games. Go Chiefs.

  4. Great move. Stud athlete. Jacksonville’s best O-Lineman. Kansas City keeps it rolling.

  5. Wow. Huge, huge overpay. Clearly an overreaction to losing Brown and Wylie, and far too much money.

  6. Jags fan here. He’s an average/solid starter at best.A good guy in the locker room. He played up in a contract year. Mahomes of course has the ability to make people look better than they are, so there is that. I’d be surprised if he stays “motivated” after getting paid. Chiefs may end up regretting this one.. at least given the size and guaranteed money in the contract.

    54Thank You

Yep. They’re paranoid and have no one in house to take over for Brown whom they wasted a draft pick on to Baltimore.

  8. The proper terminology is a “non-binary” tackle. We’ll see if we got what we paid for a (relatively) cheap Left Tackle or a very astutely priced Left Tackle after Andrew Thomas resets the market on it’s ear (~$30M / yr?).

  9. Please start looking at cap space before you assume the Chiefs don’t have any. They do. buckle up sweethearts, this is the front end of the dynasty. Qb contract is not prohibitive from making moves. Educate before you spread hate. I mean, you’re gonna do it, but you might as well not look foolish while doing it.

  10. That’s a bold move bringing in a right tackle to protect Mahomes’ blind side

  11. Screenshot this:

This will go down as the steal of the 2023 free agency period. This guy is perfect for their offense and will have no problem moving to LT. The Chiefs win again.

  12. Smart move by Taylor. Now he can get away with all the holding calls he wants.

  13. Thinking a great QB will elevate this player to top notch performance. Kind of like the Pats. Back when they were relevant with Brady

He’s a solid tackle but is he really 20 million dollars good?

    —————-

Nope! He’s a serviceable Tackle which is why Jacksonville wisely walked.

  15. Without a doubt, the Chiefs are masters at manipulating the salary cap. Kudos to the Chiefs.

  16. Up until his contract year the guy was below average. Now that he has his money don’t be surprised if he returns to below average. He is a huge downgrade from Brown.

Crosby is going to have a field day! And the Raiders will still lose twice to the Chiefs.
