Former Pittsburgh cornerback Cameron Sutton is on the way to Detroit.

The Lions and Sutton have agreed to a three-year contract worth $33 million, with $21.5 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 28-year-old Sutton arrived in Pittsburgh as a third-round pick in 2017 and has played his entire career with the Steelers. Last year he played in 16 games, starting 15.

Sutton was the No. 73 player on our Free Agent Top 100.

  1. Very disappointing news. One of my favorite current Steelers. Surprised we couldn’t keep him at that price, which is pretty fair, IMO.

  2. Excellent signing. Now, trade that #6 pick back to #13, pick up a first next year and draft either Christian Gonzalez or Devon Witherspoon and you’ve got your corners for the next 5 years.

  3. Bummer. I was hoping the Steelers would retain his services. Looks like cornerback just became an even higher priority for them in the draft.

  4. Can’t say anything bad about that signing.

Solid starting player, position of need, prime age, reasonable contract.

  5. Quality signing by Holmes. Didn’t overspend, got a good player. Was the 23rd rated free agent by PFF, allowed the 9th fewest passing yards of all corners in the league last season. Can also play nickel if the Lions draft either Gonzalez or Witherspoon in the draft. Watch out for Detroit, future Kings of the North!

  6. Lions must be WAY under the salary cap – $33 Mill for a guy who is a nickel back on most teams? A slightly above average CB ain’t worth that.

  7. Steelers are always reactive, instead of being proactive…so this means that the Steelers will take a CB in the 1st round for sure. EVERY year the Steelers spend their 1st round draft pick on the position that was their biggest loss in free agency that year. In the last FOUR drafts the Steelers took exactly 2 DBs, TWO! In the last 13 drafts, the Steelers have taken just 13 OL, that is pathetic. No wonder Steeler QBs get killed. What’s worse is that every team knows who the Steelers will take, then teams jump in front of the Steelers to steal the player. SMFH again

It’s pretty easy to look up salary cap numbers. Not sure why you couldn’t.

The Lions played a ton of man last year, and Pittsburgh did as well. Sutton played well on the outside last year. It’s a good fit for Detroit.

  9. Over the years the Steelers got a lot of good football out of him…for not a lot of money…
He will be missed..but he deserves his payday…

  10. Good player. The Steelers will miss his skills and versatility. Should have resigned him at that price.

Lol, he is better than slightly above average. Also, he started at outside corner for Pittsburgh the last 2 years. He has positional versatility, as he can play either outside or nickel, which is very valuable. Most teams play nickel defense 70 percent of the time anyways. 11 million a year is a good value for Sutton, do some research next time.

  12. Sutton dropped 2 cake-easy INTs vs NE and Miami. Would’ve possibly won both gms – definitely the NE game. I would imagine absolutely no drop off in having Peterson over Sutton. No numbers yet but would be surprised if Peterson got ridiculous amount Sutton got. I trust Steelers decisions over Lions’, any day of the week.

  13. Glad to see so many Steelers fans upset they lost this player. Nothing against Steelers fans at all. It’s just reassuring that we made a good signing. I wasn’t sure how good he is exactly. I know he ranked top 10 in man coverage last season.
