The Bills are adding a speedy return specialist.

Buffalo has agreed to a two-year contract with receiver Deonte Harty, according to multiple reports.

The deal is worth a maximum of $13.5 million with a $9.5 million base salary and $5 million fully guaranteed.

Harty, 25, appeared in only four games last season due to injury. He caught two passes for 13 yards. In 2021, Harty caught 36 passes for 570 yards with three touchdowns.

Harty has averaged 25.4 yards per kick return and 9.8 yards per punt return in his career.

  1. Admittedly, I don’t know much about him but 5′-6″ @ 170# doesn’t really move the needle as a receiver and that seems like a lot to pay for a returner with Hines on the roster for kick returns. Maybe Hines primary role will actually be RB this season. We’ll see…

  2. Harty is an excellent return man, but was also starting to come into his own as a receiver prior to getting hurt. This could be a good deal or a nothing burger for the bills.

  3. Saints did use him enough on offense if you ask me. Deonte is a great example of scouting bias. Small and from a D II school, but didn’t miss a beat at the NFL level. How this plays in to special teams for the Bills will be interesting.

  4. The Bills are certainly deep in punt & kick returners. Three now under contract. Bye bye McKenzie

  5. Nothing splashy – but it addresses some things they were lacking. He’s fast & can stretch the field, seems to have great YAC & has great hands.

It probably takes WR off the ‘need’ list for the 1st few rounds of the draft, which isn’t a bad thing.

  6. No sir I don’t like it. We already have an electric return guy… In Hines. Maybe he is more sure handed than McKenzie? I hope we aren’t done. Need a #2 WR STILL

  7. Bills are getting a good reciever and return man. This would be a big loss to the saints if it wasn’t for the breakout of Raheed Shaheed, a younger and less expensive player with all the talent of Harty and quite possibly more.

  8. Sounds like Saints fans are going to miss him. I’d definitely like to hear more thoughts on this from them. Sounds like a lot of potential upside for Buffalo.

  9. I imagine harty will handle punts and Hines kickoff duty. McKenzie has never been trusted to consistently return. If the bills draft a WR this year McKenzie is probably on borrowed time.
