Orlando Brown Jr. was adamant he wanted to stay at left tackle, and the Bengals agreed.

That’s why he agreed to join the Bengals on a four-year, $64 million deal that includes $31 million guaranteed.

“I’m super thankful for the opportunity to carry on my father’s legacy and be a left tackle,” Brown told Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. It was important to be able to play that position and play for a winning team and a winning quarterback. Who Dey!”

Brown was among the last of the top big-name free agents to land a deal. Many teams viewed Brown as a better right tackle, something he wasn’t willing to do.

So, Jonah Williams, a first-round pick in 2019 who started 16 games at left tackle last season, is expected to move to right tackle.

The Ravens traded Brown to the Chiefs in 2021 after Brown declined a move back to right tackle.

  1. Great signing for Cincinnati

Joe Burrow is sick. Love his swag and moxy
Just a real silent killer but in old school way. Can’t hate

  2. Brown screwed himself out of about 30 million in garenteed money he could of got last year with 60 million garuenteed if he had signed a long term deal with the Chiefs. Did he have an agent?

  3. I don’t get what he’s saying here. Zeus played RT his whole career. Jonathan Ogden was the LT in Baltimore, Tony Jones and Lomas Brown in Cleveland. He was never on the left side.

  4. Chiefs fan here: Holy crap, Chiefs couldn’t give him 4 yr 60M contract? Geeze that is pathetic. It looks like GM might think he is a God giving up so much talent this year.

  5. So it’s really 2 years at 16 million a year.
I guess that’s about right for an okay but nothing special left tackle

  6. Would love to compare what the Chief’s best offer to him was vs. what he got from the Bengals.

  7. The market for Brown wasn’t as hot as he expected. Only $31 million guaranteed compared to the Chiefs giving his replacement Jawaan Taylor double that. Losing $30million has to hard for Brown to swallow right? The question is will this affect he’s play this year?

  8. Burrow is going to have a helluva time running from d ends . Brown gets beat on the stunt way too much

  9. Bet he wished he took that deal from the Chiefs last off-season. Only costing him 7M/year…

  10. So are right tackles who block for left-handed quarterbacks paid like left tackles, or what? Genuine question

  11. Great signing! Jonah is on his fifth year option, so I hope they still draft a tackle too.

  12. My how the mighty have fallen. Glad he didn’t sign the 6 year $100+mil offer we gave him last year!

  13. I just feel like WIlliams has been with the team, is better sutied to plat LT. BUt because a fully grown child wants to live out a dream and get paid millions. We will just play both out of their best spot.Makes no sense to kiss Browns rear.

  14. So now he’s on his 3rd team in 3 years. Obviously the reigning SB Champs not worried about their starting LT walking away in free agency.

  15. Burrow better work on his quickness. This guy is let’s lots of guys leak through.

  16. “The Ravens traded Brown to the Chiefs in 2021 after Brown declined a move back to right tackle.” – and what do the Ravens have to show for it… NOTHING… but I’ll bet the Super Bowl ring looks nice on his finger.

  17. Watch your back, Joe Cool. You’re going to be running for you life constantly.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

  18. Another piece, 2 SB’s in next three years. More to come today, WhoDey.

Has nothing to do with kissing Brown’s rear & everything to do with the fact that Williams sucks at Left tackle. have you watched Williams play football? The head scratcher is Why would they have picked up Williams 5th year option? Now they can’t even cut Williams.

  20. All this guy does is hold. He got away with it like crazy last year because he was with the Chiefs. He’s better off at RT, though.

  21. Collins was quantifiably terrible last year, Williams only slightly better. Williams has a chance to salvage himself as a starting quality O-lineman (after being exposed last year when finally playing with a good interior line). This move solves 2 problems for the Bengals and didn’t cost a fortune to do it. This is not a massive contract for a left tackle and Brown doesn’t need to be the best in the league for it to be a massive improvement over what got them to a SB and AFC title game.

You’re correct about Williams being a bad Left Tackle, but he’s competent enough to earn a shot at right tackle. If nothing else, he’s competent enough to be a backup, which we’ve seen in the last 2 years is pretty important in January. I’m fine with Williams still being on the team, there’s probably not a better option out there for the money.

  23. Orlando will come into Cincinnati and I bet he tells you that Joe Cool’s uniform will NEVER get dirty, he’ll never be harassed or chased or forced to make too quick and errant passes – because Easy Money University won’t allow any of that stuff to happen to the franchise QB.

Heard it all before in KC.

  24. Hopefully he’s not wearing that centers number 57 he’s to great a player to look goofy out there please wear a 70’s number this time.
