Last season’s NFL leader in rushing touchdowns is heading to New Orleans.

Jamaal Williams has agreed to a contract with the Saints, according to multiple reports.

Williams has played four seasons in Green Bay and then the last two in Detroit and is coming off a career year. He had 262 carries for 1,066 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, all career highs.

For much of his career Williams has split carries with another back, often a back who is a better receiver than Williams is, and that will remain the case in New Orleans. With the Saints, Williams joins a backfield that already has Alvin Kamara.

  1. Jaamal could end up the QB1 in NO. Depending on how many games Kamara misses, or if he end up in jail.

  2. Unfortunately, Kamara is facing a potential stretch in prison and most certainly a suspension from the NFL. I suppose the Saints feel the need for Williams.

  3. wow, perfect fit. Saints fans, you’re getting a good one. He will win over the locker room, the coaching staff, and the city of New Orleans very quickly

  4. Good for him, always been under appreciated in GB/Detroit. For the Lions to think David Montgomery is a better player shows just how inept they are at evaluation across the board.

    I meant RB1, LOL

  6. Not mad at Jamaal for getting paid, he has been a great player for us on and off the field. Great short yardage guy because he is tough and strong, very pedestrian between the twenties. Benefitted from a very good o line.

  7. If Kamara misses significant time due to suspension he will have a hard time keeping his body conditioned without his training regiment. He very well may be the RB 1 for next season.

  8. I am also thinking more and more that the Lions might be grabbing Bijan, and I am all for that idea. He reminds me of Marshall Faulk in the way he can both run explosively and can catch like WR, in this offense he would thrive.

  9. Wow! I’m surprised he was that cheap. Much rather have him at what the Saints got him for then Tony Pollard at 10 million for next year.

  10. He was Never more Appreciated than he was in Detroit . Fans in Detroit didn’t want to see him leave . Detroit fans wish nothing but the best for Jamal Williams!

  11. JW will be missed in Detroit. He was a class act, rugged, durable runner. Detroit is not likely to see much regression with David Anderson, who is younger, more elusive, and played behind a garbage offensive line for the last few years. He should flourish in Detroit.

  12. David Montgomery will feast more than Jaamal did behind the Lions Offensive Line.

  13. Leading the NFL in touchdowns usually led to a football video game being named after you when I was in school. Now it gets you traded or unsigned. LIKE A ROCK those Ford brains are!

  14. Great add to tandem with Kamara. Another rb with focus on receiving skills would have the rb room set. Excited and looking forward to seeing the new version of zoom and boom in action.

To think Kamara who will only miss 6 games can’t stay in shape is crazy.

  16. Jamaal was my favorite Lion since Barry Sanders. His vibe will be missed. The Saints just got a good one. Congrats!

  17. If only Jamaal had lived up to his contract with Detroit. All the dude did was run for 1,000+ yards, lead the league in touchdowns and be a fan favorite – because this dude is a boss. The Lions – owners of zero Lombardi trophies – chose to let Jamaal walk. Detroit continuing to do Detroit things puts smiles on the faces of everyone else in the NFL. Thanks for entertaining the rest of us Detroit. You’re the best.

  18. If the Saints can’t beat Dalton (or rookie), Mayfield, and Ridder (or yet to be signed scrub FA) to win the South this year it’ll be an epic choke job and Allen will be gone.

  19. Jamaal Williams is one of my favorite players. He was solid for the Pack and he blew it up in Detroit. I will root for him but not the Saints.

  20. Why are the Saints spending money when their cap situation is so god awful? This is a team that needs to rebuild and they’re just kicking the can down the road yet again, the bill for this is going to come due and they’re to crumble in the very near future. They still won’t be very good next year with an average QB and no real play makers other than Olave and a power back. They should of just started retooling and fixing their cap this off season and by next year they woulda been in far better shape long term but both Allen n Loomis are selling the Saints future out to try n have a good enough season to save their jobs beyond just this year.

  21. I’m just going to add that anyone who thinks or said Swaggy was underappreciated in Detroit knows absolutely nothing about Detroit.
