Lions coach Dan Campbell is a draw for free agents.

That’s the word from Cam Sutton, the cornerback who signed a free agent contract with the Lions and was introduced in Detroit today. Sutton said he wanted to play for Campbell, and he knows there are plenty of others around the NFL who want to play for him as well.

“Seeing what he’s been doing around the league, it’s exhilarating, man. Like, guys love this guy. Not just me speaking, but you see how far it spreads around the league. Guys want to play for him. Guys love the energy and everything he brings,” Sutton said, via Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

When the Lions hired Campbell two years ago, plenty of observers mocked his introductory speech in which he said, “When you knock us down, we’re going to get up and on the way up, we’re going to bite a kneecap off.” But Sutton says players respond to Campbell’s fiery demeanor.

  1. He’s not the only player who has expressed a similar opinion. John Cominski just resigned and said he’s ready to run through a brick wall for this staff.

  2. Welcome to the Lions D Cam! The secondary needs you badly, and I know that you will be the shut down corner that we need you to be. #LIONSPRIDE

  3. Like everyone else, I was amused by the kneecap comment.

But, bottom line is DC is a dude who just loves football – loved playing it, loves being around it, loves coaching it.

Loves football players and honestly cares about his guys. That stuff matters.

He also is genuine, what you see is what you get.

If you have ever actually spent any time in Metro Detroit or Michigan in general , your know he is the perfect guy for the area.

Everyone here is hoping this works out, and so far it is

  4. Music to my ears as a Lions fan.. This is the polar opposite of the Quinntricia debacle. Nobody wanted to play for a losing team with the most unlikable coach imaginable. We had to overpay to get mediocre players who never produced.

  5. MCDC is great for the game and even better for the lions.

He made a staff of former players for a reason. His coaches are all being talked about as potential head coaches. He knows how to treat modern players because he never left the NFL.

Great dude and so happy for him and lions fans.

As a saints fan was sad to see him go but he was ready. It takes a special guy to dig a team out of that hole.

Also thankful the let the funniest RB hit the market. Dude is exactly what the saints needed. Gonna love that guy in black and gold.

  6. Please. Immature players who get off on a hokey Rex Ryan style coach want to play for that garbage.

    It’s not winning you anything.

  7. Heard the same about the Vikes head coach from recent signees. Haven’t heard it about LaFleur though.

Yeah, how many top 5-10 Ds does Campbell have and how many rings does he have? Please.

Catering to entitled snowflake Millennials will eventually backfire, as it always does.

Doing push ups with your players ain’t cutting it. The honeymoon is over.

The Fords and McCaskeys BLOW as owners. Those franchises will never go anywhere as long as those families still own those teams. Every organization starts at the top.

  9. The NFL tough guys who want to play for a tough guy head coach are increasing few and far between. Most just want to coast and get paid. A handful of tough guys isn’t enough.

Are you aware that the youngest millennials are in their early 30’s, and the oldest ones In their 40’s?

  11. Too bad he is coaching such a bad franchise. Lions last season was an anomaly. Back to the basement kitties.
