Allen Lazard: It feels good knowing 12 will be my quarterback again

Newly signed Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard talked about his relationship with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and desire to be in a big city while saying that he might have signed with the AFC East team under any circumstances, but it was impossible to ignore another tie that helped draw Lazard during his introductory press conference.

Lazard said that Aaron Rodgers is a big reason why he’s in the NFL because of the way his Packers teammate went to bat for him early in his career, so it definitely didn’t hurt to hear that the quarterback’s intention is to play for the Jets this season.

“It feels good that 12 is going to be my quarterback again,” Lazard said, via SNY.

Lazard was also asked about his expectations for 2023 once the Packers agree to a trade bringing Rodgers to the team.

“I think with Aaron Rodgers as quarterback, the possibility of wins is always a thing,” Lazard said. “With that being said, it’s really the Super Bowl. Especially at this point in his career. . . . His caliber of play automatically elevates everybody’s potential and abilities on the field immediately.”

The Jets are banking on that kind of effect, but they’ve still got to get the trade finished before Lazard or anyone else can benefit from Rodgers’ presence.

  1. After watching love in practice it’s no secret love stinks! After every home game INT next season will that song play on the PA speakers? 🤔

  2. Rodgers in his prime has the same amount of NFC Championship wins as Rex Grossman. He now moves to the AFC where you could argue he’s not in the top 5 of QBs…good luck!

  3. It’s amazing how much Rodgers’ career has mirrored Favre’s. The holdouts. The drama on whether he’ll play. Arguing with the organization. Now going to the Jets.

  4. Seems like this is putting the cart before the horse. If anything, increases pressure on the Jets to get the deal done. I’m surprised they would put him out there with Rogers still not a Jet.

  5. Some of these guys really come off as way too dependent. If you’re good you’re good and should be able to play with almost anybody. What happens next year when 12 does this all over again?

  6. I wouldn’t count my chickens just yet. The Jets are clearly trying to lowball the Packers on what they’ll give up in this trade.

If Gute says yes to anything short of a first round pick and at least one quality starter, he should be sued for malpractice.

Personally I’d rather see the Packers call the whole thing off and let Rodgers back up Jordan Love this year than accept a pittance in this trade.

  7. I have a feeling that this possibly will not end well for the Jets, Packers and Rogers.

  8. Oh don’t you worry Rodgers will be going to the Superbowl after this upcoming season ends – As a spectator like every other year

  9. We all know what the Packers supposedly want in a trade for Rodgers (as leaked by the Jets). When is the current offer from the Jets for Rodgers going to be leaked?

  10. Assuming Rodger lands in New York, he’s going from being the best QB in the conference to possibly the seventh or eighth in the conference.

Consider that Gutekunst doesn’t control this. Russ Ball will have some say as he controls the salary cap. LaFleur will have some say because he wants this resolved so GB can move ahead with Love. Neither Ball or LaFleur report to Gutekunst. It may come down to Murphy to say – “resolve it, now”.

  12. Jets getting Rogers is not official, no deal in place. Jets going to pay a heavy price to get this done, and Rogers is not only a pain in the butt as a person, but his skill is in decline. Jets mortgaging the house on this.

  13. People are about to find out how incompetent Packers’ brass truly is, and I’m looking forward to it.

But he won’t be wearing #12 for the Jets.
    —————–
I wouldn’t be so sure. Namath earlier in the year said he’d want Rodgers to wear 12 if he came to New York and Rodgers wasn’t ready to talk about numbers when asked about it but left all possibilities open in the future.

  15. If I’m Joe Namath my price is half his salary/bonus/incentives including endorsements.

  16. It’s amazing how much Rodgers’ career has mirrored Favre’s. The holdouts. The drama on whether he’ll play.

Favre never held out. Neither has Rodgers.

There has been no Rodgers retirement drama. Its contrived media nonsense. This is the first season his future has been in question. He this week said he intends to play. Theres no drama. Nothing but media angst and consternation.

It is embarrassing how the Packers handled these two guys. How THEY managed to repeat all the mistakes they made with Favre is surreal. Mark Murphy should be ashamed of himself. If the Packers had an owner, he probably would have been sent packing.

Yup, that’s good roster management, a 60 million dollar back up QB. Then a 99 million cap hit after that.
He won’t have to worry about the cap in ‘24 because he won’t have a job, signing Rodgers to that contract in the first place.
Packers can’t sign the second dumbest QB contract of all time and expect to get a reward for it.

  18. If I’m the Jets, I seriously consider begging Tom Brady to come to NY. He can still play, and he would probably love the opportunity to be in the limelight of the NY media. He is known to like hanging out in NYC. He could be Tom “Willie” Brady, the most eligible bachelor in town. Maybe he could teach Wilson a few things. It will kill Wilson’s chubby for Rodgers though. No draft capital would need to be given up, and Brady might come at a much reduced price in order to win. Then again, he did lose 50 mil of that good good crypto in the FTX scam so he may want full market value. He could afford home town discounts when he was married to GB, but that insurance policy left town a few months ago with the Ju Jitsu instructor. There is the small issue of him playing for the Jets and then somehow expecting to come back to New England when he really retires for a parade and a statue, but choices have to be made. Choose wisely Tom. 😉

Until you get to the playoffs…

  20. These guys all need to stop talking. It’s like being at a car lot and letting the salesman know you walked there and your current car is on blocks in your driveway.

  21. I love all the folks ripping Rodgers for only winning 1 SB. For the record, Rodgers has won 1, Bears as a franchise have only won 1, and the Lions and Vikings have won ZERO. I’m betting Jordon Love will win his first before the Vikings and Lions ever do as well.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

…….not to mention they both failed to show up in the postseason for eleven years following their lone SuperBowl wins, they’re both privileged and selfish, and they’re both confirmed liars.

It is. The rules have never applied to the Jets.

They’ve been caught 3 times tampering with NE with little to no punishment.

______________________________________________ He has a $60 million dollar salary this year. Rodgers will become a malcontent distraction sitting behind a QB that’s iffy at best. Malpractice is messing around until he can’t be traded or retires, leaving the team holding a $60 million bag. Packers will end up getting much less than they want and the Jets will give up more than they want. Think along the lines of a pair of sencond round picks the latter of which can go up to a conditional first. Players with one foot out the door have far less value than guys in their prime.

As long as Goodell doesn’t strip them of that first round pick. The Packers have dibs on it.

  26. Worst scenarios for the Packers is Rodgers plays one more year for them or he retires. They can survive fine with either of those decisions. They’re going to pick up the 5th year option on Love. Worst case scenario for the Jets is if they don’t get Rodgers, their Super Bowl hopes are dead on arrival, their fans riot, while the management implodes. Jets better sweeten the deal, the longer this goes, the higher the price will be. Packers don’t have to pay Rogers until the 1st week of the season; they may/can even wait to see if somebody’s QB goes down.

  27. These guys are all buddies, making millions of dollars, having a good time while clueless fans take this stuff so seriously!

Rodgers in his prime has the same amount of NFC Championship wins as Rex Grossman.

    —————————————————————————————-

Sure, also the same number of conference championship wins as Dan Marino, Drew Brees, Ken Stabler, Billy Kilmer, Ken Anderson, Steve Young (excluding as a backup), Matt Stafford, and Joe Burrow. But lets pretend Rex Grossman belongs in a conversation with any of these QBs.

  29. And then there is the actual football player named Aaron Rodgers. The man can quarterback an offense. 3rd and 9? 2023? The world knows-to this day- you got a great shot of getting that first down with this man at the helm. Period.

  30. Frothy prediction: the Jets-Rodgers deal does not happen (due to Packets’ draft pick comp) and TB12 gets the call.

  31. I’d leave that 12 in Green Bay.

You could sell double jerseys with a new number.

  32. Allen Lazard: It feels good knowing 12 will be my quarterback again…

    Will he?

  33. “It’s amazing how much Rodgers’ career has mirrored Favre’s. The holdouts. The drama on whether he’ll play. Arguing with the organization” Hm….maybe it’s the organization, and not the players. Just a thought.

  34. Lazard is a part of the reason that A.A.Ron posted a 38.9 QBR last year.
Neither one is a very big prize.

  35. The Packers will be fine trading Rodgers now / after the draft / trade deadline / next year. The Jets on the other hand don’t have a real QB.

  36. Anyone watch the Jets this yr? They had the worst QB play I’ve ever seen except for when Gase was here ann Darnold was injured. If the QB play was just bad, Jets would have made the playoffs. If it was decent to good, we would have been competing for the division. Just look at the two Buffalo games. Ppl make too much of the last few games where our Oline was decimated. I cant stand AR, but the talent here will ensure that if he is just ok, the jets will be a playoff team. if they can keep the pocket clean, and there arent a series of major injuries like this year, this will be a very exciting and dangerous teams. I’ll just skip the postgame interviews of the QB

  37. Don’t be too sure Allen. Trade is still a long ways from being completed. Jets can still screw this up.

  38. What I’d like to know is that once Rodgers has left the Packers, do the Packers’ fans start holding the management accountable? Or do they find a new lightning rod to focus on lieu of focusing on the general incompetence that’s been on display over the past few years.

  39. How excited Jets fans must be watching another aged Packers QB not playing well enough to get them to the playoffs. Bright side for them is they’ll finish 3rd in the division above the Patriots.

Green Bay gave Rodgers permission to speak with the Jets. So both sides are clear of tampering.

There is a vocal minority that have turned on Rodgers.

Don’t confuse that with the overwhelming majority of Packers fans.

  46. $44 mill for a WR who’s played with 12 for 4 years and not once had an 800 yard season.
