Jets announce Allen Lazard signing

Aaron Rodgers said this week that he has not made any demands to the Jets about players to add to the roster if they are going to trade for him to be their quarterback, but he did endorse some of his teammates from Green Bay when their names came up in conversation.

Wide receiver Allen Lazard was one of those players and the Jets have moved forward with a move to bring him to the team even though they haven’t sealed the deal to bring Rodgers to the AFC East. Lazard agreed to terms with the Jets earlier this week and the team officially announced his signing on Friday.

Lazard’s arrival could spell the end of Corey Davis‘ run with the Jets as the team would gain $10.5 million in cap space with his release. Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore would remain on hand to form a strong top trio of wideouts.

The hope for the Jets is still that Rodgers will be the one throwing them passes, but an official announcement on that front remains out of their reach.

  1. Lazard might find out that the grass isn’t greener on the other side. If the Jets insist on trying to screw the Packers in the Aaron Rodgers trade, he’ll be backing up Jordan Love in GB.

  2. Lazard lost a lot of speed the past two years. He aint your get into the open TE thats for sure. But they got him cheaply and he does make plays so its a good deal for him and the jets. Wonder who will be tossing him the balls when the Packer deal goes up in smoke?

  3. Grass isnt always greener just ask davante.adams he is crying the blues with his buddy carr in New orleans.becareful what you wish for

  4. The Raiders haven’t finished signing Garropolo yet, if they change their minds this could get interesting.

    Doubtful. Jordan Love looks terrible.

  6. Lazard seems like a nice kid. Saw him on Packers Clubhouse Live. Very personable. But a top receiver? I have my doubts.

  7. Good luck, “Alien Lizard”! Regardless of what receiving contributions you make – and I’m sure there will be many, especially on third downs – I know your fellow receivers and the RBs will appreciate your blocking. Thanks for your contributions in GB!

  8. This is going to implode spectacularly

Lazard knows the scheme, and has been productive. Might be the best blocking receiver in the game.

If a fan just watched the player, without looking at this obnoxious salary, I guarantee you, he’d be a fan favorite.

His contract is not that of a WR1. It is that of a WR2, which, he is.

  10. A cheeser chiming in on the Jets trying to “screw” the Pack by not offering a first round pick and much more for a 39-year old player that has said he’s about one year from retirement is a fairly strong indicator that St Patty’s day festivities must have already started in WI.

  11. Allen Lazard is somewhere between a competent #2 receiver, and a true #3 slot receiver. His best abilities are catching those 3rd down conversion grabs, and assisting in the run blocking game. But he’s not a burner, doesn’t have elite size, and he’s not your first option on a play-fake deep pass.

  12. Look I get this signing. Davis has not panned out and in Wilson and Moore the Jets have legit young receivers. Bringing in someone who knows Hackett’s scheme makes sense.

Bringing in Rodgers (and giving more than a leaky water bucket for him) makes no sense. His skills are declining, he hasn’t been to or won a SB since 2012, his playoff record since then is under .500, the Packers were ONE win better than the Jets in 2022 and Rodgers is way too expensive.

Crazy is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

The have Jets signed a washed up former SB winner whose current team didn’t want twice before. Neil O’Donnell to a 5 year contract in 1996 (Jets record 8-12 over 2 seasons before being waived) and Brett Favre in 2008 (1 year $16mil deal 9-7 record no playoff appearances).

So what would you call doing the same dumb thing over 3 times?

Didn’t he hurt his shoulder that first year?

.. and Rich Kotite was the head coach. There’s the first problem.

… and did you really just compare Aaron Rodgers and Neil O’Donnell??

  14. He better hope Zach Wilson can get the ball to him if Rodgers deal falls through.
