The Packers are bringing back safety Rudy Ford.

Ford agreed to a one-year deal worth a maximum of $2.5 million, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports.

The Packers originally signed Ford on Aug. 31 after the Jaguars cut him out of the preseason. He played all 17 games last season, starting a career-high six and totaling a career-high three interceptions in 442 snaps.

The Cardinals made Ford a sixth-round selection in 2017, and he played two seasons there, two with the Eagles and one with the Jaguars before landing in Green Bay.

In his career, Ford has appeared in 73 games with 12 starts and has recorded 132 tackles, four interceptions and six pass breakups.

He is a core special teams player, having played more than 50 percent of the special teams snaps in four of six seasons.

Ford is expected to compete for a starting safety job.

  1. Wow. Packers aren’t messing around in FA! Just building quite a dream team… hahaha cheeseheads go back to 80’s level ineptitude and obscurity once Arod, easily the best player in franchise history, bolts for a city with indoor plumbing, indoor wiring and even those fancy new indoor outhouses. The Pack take back control of the NFC cellar!

  2. When this guy is your biggest free agent signing you know your franchise is absolutely garbage.

  3. What do you have to say about your team poaching a member of what you call Green Bay’s “historically awful defense,” ari?

  4. Well Dingo your team is still awful with no QB. Looks like the 70, 80s, and 90s are back!

    Yup, 0-4

  6. Say what you will about Ford… He might not be a #1 Safety, but his motor never stops and he is always near the ball. And as a Gunner on ST, he will knock the snot out of you. His ST value alone is worth what he’s getting paid.
I think the Front Office is wisely giving Rich the players he needs to dominate the 3rd side of football.

    xxxxxx

It’s always funny to hear a Vikings fan say GB is going back to the dark years of the 70s and 80s. What exactly were the Vikings doing in the 70s and 80s? It sure wasn’t winning any rings.

  8. Every team needs role players. Curious how the Packer “fans” only recognize that when their team signs somebody.

  9. When you are held hostage because of stupid contracts that you give out Rudy is the best you can do

  10. Great special teams contributor, and surprisingly competent safety. Nice deal for the most successful franchise in NFL history.

  11. Both Nixon and Ford are back in Green Bay. Love will start a new era and prevent the 1970s (and ‘80s) from repeating.

  12. Played really well when Savage was benched and injured.

    Glad he’ll be back.
