Free agent linebacker Devin Bush has found his new home in Seattle.

The Seahawks signed Bush on Thursday night, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports.

The Steelers made Bush the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, and he has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh. He showed flashes of the talent that made him a Top 10 pick but never quite lived up to the expectations his draft status set.

Seahawks General Manager John Schneider had identified inside linebacker as a position the Seahawks needed to improve, and Bush should help. Seahawks inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks is recovering from a torn ACL, and Cody Barton left for the Commanders in free agency.

Bush has started 14 games in each of the last two years and will likely be a starter in Seattle this year. There has also been talk that the Seahawks could bring back linebacker Bobby Wagner, although it’s not clear where negotiations with Wagner currently stand.

  1. Horrible signing. Bush actually makes SEAs defense worse not better, their run defense was bad to begin with and they’ve somehow managed to get much worse vs the run. Bush is arguably the worst starting ILB in football, dude does nothing well. I don’t see who in SEA or why anyone In that building thought it was a good idea to sign Bush.

  2. Hawks probably need Wagner to return because Bush was a bust in Pitt. Steelers played Spillane instead last 3 gms of season, which they won. Guy didn’t put the work in after ACL, and was pushed around and literally afraid of contact. 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and no INTs last 3 yrs is all you need to know from his performance.Top 10 pick who played like a 4th rounder. Steelers already signed 2 FAs to replace him & other underperformer Myles Jack.

  3. initially looked like a solid pic after being drafted, blew his acl, and was never the same. developed a bad attitude and basically quit on the steelers. hope a fresh start is good for him.

  4. They will be disappointed after the first few games. The guy was afraid of contact after returning from injury and isn’t very big for an ILB.

  5. He’ll magically turn into a perennial superstar now that he’s left Pittsburgh…smh

  6. Steelers made a big mistake drafting Bush. As an Ohio State fan, I would watch Bush disappear vs Ohio State, which means that he wasn’t worth drafting in the early rounds.

  7. Typical John/Pete addition for player with underachieving performance with upside. Value.

  8. Good night and good luck!

You know, there was a game his rookie year….may have been a playoff game but I think it was the Bengals…where he evidenced what they thought of him when they moved up in the draft to take him. He was all over the field like a video game.

That injury in year 2, he just wasn’t the same after that. Seemed tentative. Hope it works out for him. The Steelers have been chasing the ghost of Ryan Shazier seems like a long time.

  9. I felt the Steelers gave up on Bush to soon. He had a promising rookie year the tire his ACL in the second year. The third year he did not play good but was mentally unsure of his knee. Year four he was improving but by then the coaches had lost confidence in him. Good luck in Seattle. It would not surprise me at all to see him be successful there.

  10. Is incapable of shedding blocks and we’ll end up 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. Other than that he’s a great ball player

  11. Dear Seahawk fans. You will start to hate this guy the first time he enters the game. Terrible LB. I hope you didn’t pay him a lot. I bet he gets cut before the season begins.

    Two words: Geno Smith

  13. What an absolute BUST. If I am not mistaken Pitt traded UP for this guy and look at it. One of the worst all time Colbert picks on the heels of Jarvis Jones and Bud Dupree at LB.

    lol

  14. Steelers fan,

These are the guys that traded for Jamal Adams.

And made a linebacker one of the highest paid defensive backs in NFL history.

    lol

NKeal Harry and Mac Jones along with Stephan would like a word with you.

In defense of Colbert, Bush was really good his rookie year. He tore his ACL in year two … and it apparently affected him mentally as well. He seemed to avoid contact in year three and lost the ability to shed any block whatsoever. He seemed to get a little bit of himself back last year, but only in very minimal spurts. Cam Heyward had to talk to him heading into year 4 because he was posting some really strange stuff on social media … so something was definitely off with him. But, based on his rookie year you can’t put his post-injury demise on Colbert. And Dupree wa not a bust … he and TJ were absolutely dominant for two years together before he got paid by Tennessee. Jones was a bust.

  17. 49ers fan here and am happy to see Seattle spent the $$ on this player. Bush is overrated and won’t be able to perform for a least one game a month.

  18. What the terms of his contract are will be important? He may be signed to a team friendly price on a one year deal, with thoughts that he will show significant improvement. However, at his best, I’m not sure he is anything better than what the Seahawk’s had in Cody Barton. Bringing back Wagner must still be in the realm of possibility.

That would be ideal with Brooks knee being an issue.

I would guess Wagner is looking for one last payday though. I think he can get it from another team, not sure that would be the Hawks.

  20. Lol good luck. Hope you’re planning on using him as a backup. Was never the same after a torn acl his first year.

  21. Seattle has five picks in the first three rounds of the draft, 10 total picks…and Pete Carroll loves linebackers….

  22. Dumping one embarrassing draft bust won’t stop the Steelers’ machine from continuing to draft more duds. This team is going nowhere and holding a last minute fire sale won’t change that until the entire front office is replaced with competent individuals.

  23. He can be a body and it doesn’t matter. The Seahawks have 1 healthy LB on the roster – they needed anybody
