Will the Patriots pursue Lamar Jackson?

More than four days into free agency, no potential suitor has conclusively been linked to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Could the Patriots eventually make a run at him?

Former Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich recently lobbied for his former team to make the move.

“If you’re the Patriots, and you go and you make an attempt to get Lamar, that changes everything,” Ninkovich said Friday on Get Up!, via NBC Sports Boston. “Absolutely everything. And listen, I am a huge fan of Lamar’s style of game and what it puts on a defense, the stresses.

“And there’s needs and wants, OK? A need is necessary for life. A want, it helps your quality of life. I don’t need Lamar here, but I sure as heck want to see Lamar running around with a New England Patriot on his helmet. Because if you see it out there, the Patriots instantly become division favorites and, to me, get right back into that Super Bowl hunt.”

More recently, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com described the Patriots as a “wild card” for the 2019 NFL MVP, via NESN.com.

The Patriots can be regarded as a wild card for pretty much any free agent, because they’re always unpredictable when it comes to pursuing players. The hover silently, and then they move suddenly. Like they did in 2020 with quarterback Cam Newton.

The question is whether the Patriots would pursue Jackson before or after the 2023 draft. They currently have the 14th overall pick. If Jackson would make them significantly better, they could make a move after the draft, giving up a much lower 2024 first-round pick and a first-rounder in 2025 — in lieu of sacrificing their first-round picks in 2023 and 2024.

The bottom line is that the Patriots always want to win, and that coach Bill Belichick hardly gave a stellar and unconditional endorsement to current starter Mac Jones after the 2022 season ended. Asked whether Jones will be the the guy again in 2023, Belichick said, “Mac has the ability to play quarterback in this league.”

Indeed he does. And Lamar Jackson has even more ability. Sometimes, it’s that simple.

If only negotiating a deal with Lamar could be that simple. Then again, if anyone can lay out the terms of an offer to the self-represented Jackson in a blunt, matter-of-fact, nonsensical way, it’s Bill Belichick.

  1. Problem is, Lamar is only healthy enough to use his talent 12 games a year and refuses to play playoff games if he’s a little dinged up in a contract year.

  2. If Jackson didn’t like the WR room in Baltimore would be like the one in NE? collection of weapons in NE is meh. Reflection of Belichicks personnel prowess (lack thereof).

  3. The Brady dynasty ended when he finally had a head coach that wasn’t elite or even good. ZERO winning seasons without such a coach,

Get outta here with that GOAT garbage. Not even top 20.

  4. Don’t tell that to nhpats2011. He swears Mac Jones is the better option, along with other clueless folks on these boards. As if you all didn’t witness that September beatdown when Lamar threw 4 TDs against the hapless Pats while Mac Jones stunk up the joint crying after injury and throwing 3 picks with no passing TDs. Yeah, that’s your guy.

  5. Belichick gives Lamar and his injuries those guarantees and throws away those first round picks I’m officially on team #FireBelichick.

  6. Would be really cool, especially after they got Gesicki to go with Henry. Gives him some options similar to his favorite in Baltimore

  7. Everyone knows Mac Jones is trash, even marginal former players. Lamar can join me and Tuna and LT as guys who carried Belichick across the finish line.

  8. The Patriots with Lamar would not instantly become division favorites over Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers.

  9. Mac and New England are no longer a good fit after McDaniels left. Without McDaniels guidance, Mac showed some traits that surely made Belichick squirm in his hoodie.

Jackson’s game is a good fit for the Patriots. The question becomes whether the contract terms make sense. The Ravens literally don’t have a QB now and may not draft one. If the Patriots wait till after the draft… doesn’t that increase the likelihood the Ravens match? Patriots won’t get much in a trade for Mac, after the Raiders signed Garapollo.

  10. The Patriot way involves selfless, cerebral players who play with disciplined commitment to structure, and demanding coaching. Sound just like Lamar Jackson, right?

  11. The question would be this – Is Lamar Jackson an upgrade over Macaroni Jones ? IMHO Yes & No…hear me out – Jackson’s a proven starter and his stats are much infinitely better than Jones except in the injury category however Belichick relies on a strong OL to protect pocket type QB’s that can read a defense – Lamar can’t read the defense & uses his legs to get out of trouble making him more one dimensional and somewhat easier to gameplan.

  12. Mac was the top rookie QB in his class the first year. This last year he was being coached by Pop Warner running an offence with six play so you don’t know how good he is. I would rather a young quarterback with upside on a rookie deal rather than have to gut the team to pay Lama’s salary.

  13. There’s been A LOT of rumbling that Belichick wants to make the move, because he’s wants Jones on the next bus out of town, but he hasn’t been able to convince Kraft it’s the right move just yet

  14. As it stand right now it’s probably Bills, Jets, Dolphins, then Patriots. I don’t see that changing much even if they get Lamar. He’s a media darling who had one fantastic season and nothing close since then.

  15. That’s crazy. Mac Jones had a better rookie season than Josh Allen. And Bailey Zappe looks better than Mac Jones. It makes no sense to go after someone who doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as either of those guys. Especially when they’re both on the same trajectory as Tom Brady.

  16. Just don’t see Lamar as a Belichick kind of player. Doesn’t fit the Patriot Way mold.

  17. Lamar Jackson is a petulant, spoiled, diva that can run really well and throw really mediocre. ANY team that would sell the farm for that clown would be off their rockers. The New England Patriots are a well coached, well run organization. They are not interested in taking on Lamar Jackson…heretofore to be known as simply “The Headache”.

  18. I loathe the pats, and I’m a fan of Mac Jones – weird for sure. But if I could have any confidence that Bill Belichick is willing to play out the final years of his coaching career with something close to integrity (pie in the sky, for sure), then I would love to see if he could build a good offense around Jackson’s immense talent.

  19. Baltimore offered Lamar a three-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $133 million. He didn’t like that.

  20. As long as Lamar refuses to come off of his fully guaranteed stance, there is zero chance of the Pats signing him. Kraft has worked his way up to being one of the more influential owners in the league. There is no way he throws that away by helping to normalize fully guaranteed contracts. There wouldn’t be any direct retaliation. That would be too obvious and open the league up to a big lawsuit. That doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t find himself less respected and listened to by his fellow owners.

  21. I’m sorry, but Lamar is not known for his passing. A team will have to change their offense to a more of a run oriented offense. To me this is the bigger issue.

  22. Wont happen, Bill will not give Lamar a huge contract, bill has always been about spending less not more.

  23. Will the Patriots sweep in to steal Rodgers from the Jets?
Will they trade for Kyler Murray?
Will they trade for Dak Prescott?

All these things are as likely as the Patriots going after Lamar.

  24. its a no win for any team.. unless the contract is crazy in Jackson favor the Ravens will match it .. if it crazy $$ .hard to think any team will pay it and give up first round picks. all the GM know the score .. bottom line LJ is a major pain that teams will just pass on.

  25. Let’s all just agree that you would definitely rather have Lamar than Mac on your team. But, is it worth all the picks plus the cash to justify it? Now if the Pats pulled off some miracle to get DHop,and then get Jackson now I’m starting to consider the move.

  26. I don’t think anyone is giving up two first rounders for a guy who gets injured a lot and hasn’t won a playoff game, ever. He’ll be back with the Ravens.

  27. They should do it. Baltimore love Bama players. Maybe they can say our 1, 3 and Mac. Or just sign him and hope for the best. Recoup a pick with Mac this year or next year.

  28. 2 chances, slim and none. Would be bad enough to give him the money and guarantees he wants, but to give up 2 1st rounders too? Maybe Belichick would be dumb enough to do it, but Kraft wouldn’t sign off on it.

  29. what are y’all smokin’? Since when does Bill over pay anyone? Or trade away draft picks? good one. LOL is it April fools day already?

  30. Of course, look at how well they did with Cam Newton. Just because a former player wants his team to sign a QB, that does not constitute as a rumor. It sounds like NO ONE is contact Lamar and people are try to drum up a market for him.

  31. Lamar requires the offense to be reinvented wherever he might go. Definitely not worth the hassle for 55% passer who gets hurt pretending to be a rb.

  32. Nope they will not .. Coach BB agrees with Deion Sanders and NBA Great Jerry West on QB’s and guys in leadership roles.

  33. Lamar’s own team doesn’t want to pay him so why should Patriots? Especially when you add two draft picks. Belichick is too smart for that and he knows his best play is to stay with Mac while bolstering the roster.

  34. Pats passed on him twice in the draft. He’s 1-6 in playoffs and wants 250 mil guaranteed. He’s an ACL waiting to happen. Sure, Bill could jump at that. NOT.

  35. Belichick never gave Tom Brady too much praise until after Tom retired. That’s just the way Belichick talks to the media. As few words as possible. For all we know, he loves Mac Jones as the Patriots’ QB. Jones hasn’t reached his full potential. Belichick is looking for someone who can run his system. It’s a good system. Jones doesn’t have to win six super bowls, like Brady. One or two would be fine.

  36. It’s laughable. No chance whatsoever they’d pursue him. The Ravens built an entire offense around him and he was just good enough to win them some regular season games before starting to break down.

  37. Mac Jones was a Pro Bowler in Year 1 and then you gave him a DC and Special Teams coach to run the offense in Year 2. Give the kid a chance.

  38. It would drive Coach Belichick crazy to have a QB as undisciplined and untrained as Lamar. He already suffered through a season with Cam Newton, I don’t see that kind of experiment happening again.
Mac Jones regressed last year after showing good promise in his rookie season. I’m willing to bet that Jones’ slide backwards was due mostly to that outstanding Patricia/Judge offensive tandem. You may have noticed that Patricia is out looking for a job while Judge will be assigned a role other than QB coach for the coming season.

  39. Will the Patriots negotiate with Jackson? No. Would heads explode across the NFL, sports talk shows and this comments section, making a big, glorious mess? Yes! The only bigger story would be the Jets backing out of a Rodgers trade.

  40. If the Pats can pull that off the AFC East QB’s would be Tua, Rogers, Lamar and Allen facing each other 2 times a year. That would be very cool.

  41. C’mon, man. I think people are just spitballing and fantasizing out loud so that others can say “there’s talk about team X going for Jackson.”

In a couple of days we’ll hear “Have you noticed that Andy Reid has not specifically denied that he was cutting Mahomes for Jackson. Could that mean a deal is in the works?” This will allow somebody else to honestly report that “There’s been chatter in NFL circles about the Chiefs going after Lamar.”

  42. So many fans jump to the conclusion that the patriots 20 years of dominance was due to Brady. Wrong. They stayed dominant that long because of cap management. Period. Belichick also has shown a focus on building a 53 man roster, not just collecting talent. If you have a roster that is still in need of improvement, how do you do that while tying up $40M+ per year in one player? It seems to me the Rams spent a couple of years spending like the salary cap didn’t matter… and how’s that looking for them now? If anything, that just shows how impressive the Patriots accomplishments were for those 2+ decades. Lamar would be great, but it’s not happening.

  43. The pats are the rare organization that truly want to win. Elite QBs who can turn an otherwise awful offenses in to good offenses do not grow on trees. Especially ones with 45-16 records.

  44. Too much money for Belichick to spend for zero need. Bill O’Brien knows Mac, was HC at ‘Bama, they worked together already… too many upsides for Mac to not see how the next season goes. Hopefully they grab a #1 WR, that’s what they really need.

  45. “they’re always unpredictable when it comes to pursuing players”

Apart from the way they would never, ever give up two firsts plus a five-year guaranteed contract for any player, ever, under any circumstances.

Plus, their knack for moving on from a guy a year early doesn’t quite jibe with a guy who’s failed to finish the last two seasons.

  46. Only if he takes vet minimum will Pats even think about it

Otherwise, he doesn’t fit their offense. Pats were terrible with Cam. Not sure why they will think about this. They always prefer the QB to stay in pocket and throw.

  48. Considering how successful they were were with Cam Newton, why would they go after Cam Newton 2.0?

  49. The antithesis of the BB program. No thanks. He’s one hell of an athlete. That is indisputable. He’s just not right for the rebuild in NE.

Well, Belichick dynasty never was since he’s the very definition of mediocre without Brady on the field. At least Brady won a Super Bowl without belichick and played in playoffs all three years. What has belichick done? I’ll wait…

  52. It’s not the amount of money Lamar wants, but the guarantees he seems to be asking for. No team will give him four or five fully guaranteed year at the money he thinks he’s worth. Not the Patriots nor any other sane team. The Panthers however might do that once they realize that they don’t get the game changer at QB with their first overall pick. Lamar would love both the Patriots or the Panthers as they don’t have a great receiving room just as he’s used to so he can run around and then enjoy his guaranteed money while the rest of the team is playing the games.

It ended after Gronk left in 2019, Brady was still there and looked like Andy Dalton. With Lamar Jackson the Patriots can have dynasty 3.0.

  54. Filming walkthroughs, signaling upcoming plays to the field, deflating balls, not sure that’s Lamar’s style

  55. Absurd idea. Love or hate them the Patriot way is not over spending. Especially not for someone in decline. Would they take a shot when he’s all but washed up like Cam? Absolutely. But never in a million years would they now.

  56. Didn’t BB say “availability” was the best ability? Lamar is not in consideration for the Pats. Please stop reaching for stories.

So what you are saying is that elite coaches consistently preferred Brady as their QB.

Or you can cherry pick a single season where a team descimated by injuries could only go deep in the playoffs and base everything on that. But really what you are saying is that for Brady’s standards going deep in the playoffs is a fail. That’s a standard no other qb can live up to so you just proved hes GOAT.

  58. BB won’t pursue Lamar. He wants a QB with no ego, takes directions, and can pass the ball effectively and efficiently.

  59. In four years he will be out of the league. Running QBs are great initially, but they get exposed once their legs go.

  60. To answer the question-no they won’t. All the moves they’ve made in FA so far indicate they’re committed to building around mac.

  61. I want this to happen just for the initial meltdown from Patriots fans, followed by the rationalizing trust in Lord Belichick, then back to total meltdown after the first turnover or three and out. The drama might be more entertaining than most AFC South games

  62. Sure – rebuild your offense around a guy who can’t throw a 30 yd out pattern? Belligerent Bill would love the 4th qtr turnovers, too. I’m sure he’d love to play in the semi-tundra of New England w/ JuJu.

  63. No way would Bill give the kind of guaranteed contract Lamar is looking for.

If you want to ignore his coaches and instead go by the word of disgruntled players cut for being as you say “marginal”, then go right ahead.

  67. The New England Patriots already tried a Lamar Jackson style QB experiment and that was Cam Newton. And we all saw Newton completely hit the wall and fall off a cliff. Once Cam entered his 28 and 29 yr old seasons he was a burned out shell of his former self. That’s where Lamar at 26 yrs old is headed with similar style and skill sets.

  68. Nobody is going to pursue him because they know that unless they overpay him (and nobody wants to do that), Baltimore is just going to match the offer. So, all you’re doing is helping Baltimore get a contract done. There’s very little chance he plays for anyone other than the Ravens.

  69. Ugh. Another Monday, another speculation.

I don’t see in any multi-universe NE coughing up 2 1st’s and Lamar’s contract demands.

    Next!

  70. Belichick is too old school and stubborn. Remember, he told mnf crew he’s not buying the ‘Josh Allen thing’. That’s why he drafted Mac Jones.

  71. Maybe an agent could explain to Lamar that an offer you reject is not a contract.

Lamar’s contract with NE will have a clause granting a seat in the owner’s box where he can watch games while rehabbing.

They are negotiating if it will cover the playoffs. NE says yes, Lamar says no.

  72. I am sure Belichick or someone in the Pats org called and found out the framework of a deal/contract on Lamar. AND EVERY OTHER PLAYER rumored to be on the market. If it fits BB’s budget, he’ll trade/sign someone. Why do so many Patriots leave? BB says your value is X, if you want more, go ahead sign elsewhere. Its why the Pats never end up in cap hell.

  75. He would not last long in the Patriots offense not without some receivers besides Smith Schuster and some line help. I do not think Belichick would trade for Lamar but we will see.

It works only when you have a QB who has the skills to turn cheap slot receivers into top play makers.

  77. It would be fun if they made a big splash, but they won’t. That’s not what they do.

Also, I don’t know if they could suck it up after they could have picked Lamar in 2018 instead of Sony Michel.

The Patriots won a Super Bowl with a great playoff run from Sony, so not that I am complaining too much. However, he severely declined after two decent years and didn’t really do anything else. Would have been nice to have Lamar to start in 2019 and beyond.

While that’s true, I do wonder if the model for winning Super Bowls has changed with the cap expanding so much due to gambling. Teams like the Rams had a long run where they looked like they would be in cap hell and they weren’t. They got their Super Bowl. Now the Rams are in trouble, but the trade off was winning.

Winning the way the Patriots did for so long might not be possible for any team again, at least not without finding the next Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Patrick Mahomes. Guys at that level can provide the winning edge for teams with a great but not superstar roster.

Brady won a Super Bowl because his elite defense won it for him. Fact. Almost any QB could have won when the other team gets held to 9 points.

And did you really credit Brady for making the playoffs with a losing record? lolololololololol. lololol. lol. lol. lol. lolololololol

  81. The amount of speculation, wishful thinking, and anti-Patriots hysteria in this thread surpasses most Patriots threads.

The most astute observation was the one noting that Kraft normalizing a fully guaranteed contract is not something he would do as an premier owner. The counter to that is that both Kraft and Belichick may have shorter windows for wanting to win another super bowl and that could challenge expectations.

One thing this thread proves is that no one really knows what Belichick will or won’t do and that’s amazing given his decades of success.

  82. The Patriots won a Super Bowl with a great playoff run from Sony,

    ——————-

I think you have to look at Brady and Belichick differently.

Belichick definitely won so much because of Brady, but Brady also won so much because of Belichick.

I look at it like Brady adds about 3-4 wins a year that a team would not get otherwise.

Take Brady in 2019. That Patriots team was not great, particularly by the end of the year. Brady got them to 12 wins.

Belichick with basically the same roster and Cam Newton. 7-9. Belichick with Mac the next year 10-7.

Is there any question that the team would have been better both years with Brady? No there isn’t.

However, the team wasn’t 4-12 without Tom. A team that can make the playoffs or threaten to make the playoffs the last week of the season with a young QB is a well coached team. That’s a team that can win games despite of the QB.

You need both parts because we’ve all see capable QBs like Stafford on bad teams with bad coaching and it doesn’t matter what they do, they can’t win.

Brady intentionally came into a team in Tampa that had a very good roster. Especially defensively, which I think was a huge reason why they had such great success come playoff time. Brady added his magic and his buddies and they were able to win.

He didn’t go play for the Bears though. I think that’s important to note.

As for BB’s time in Cleveland, you should go watch the NFL Network special about it. That team and the draft picks that BB had became the Ravens. He built an amazing foundation there then when he came to NE he certainly became a better and better coach over 20 years. Things don’t just stay the same over time.

  84. It’s not just the 6 super bowl victories over two decades. It’s the 9 super bowl appearances. It’s all the AFCCG appearances, the total domination of the AFC East, and missing the playoffs in only two years during that run.

I read foolish comments that it was all Brady. Belichick only signed cheap players.

Bill has been disciplined. He slotted value to positions. He let go of guys he loved if their contract no longer fit because that would impact another position. He’s always been quick to cut his loses for signings that didn’t pan out or when players stopped living up to expectations. He’s been incredible at getting value from guys drafted in the mid to late rounds, not even drafted, or that were drafted high by other teams but had not lived up to expectations.

  85. If Lamar can’t read defenses, can’t throw and clearly has sorry receivers, how the heck does he win all these games? Seems that would that make him quite amazing. Please explain.

  86. Mac Jones is not what he promised to be, terrible in the red zone & clutch situation, coupled with a week arm.
However, Jackson is not the answer!

Foolish people don’t understand the difference between “Brady did all” and “Brady was the difference”.

Like Patriots to a Boeing airplane, Brady was the engine that determined how far, how high and how fast the plane could fly.

Without Brady, 2001 Pats would be like 2020 Pats, 2003 and 2004 Pats would be like 2021 Pats. Don’t know how the fans of Belichick the garbage fail to see.

  90. I look at it like Brady adds about 3-4 wins a year that a team would not get otherwise.

Take Brady in 2019. That Patriots team was not great, particularly by the end of the year. Brady got them to 12 wins.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

In 2nd half of 2019, with tough schedule, with the garbage squad given by Belichick the garbage, Brady won 4 out of 8 games, should be 5-3 if the defense of the garbage had hold FitzMagic in the last drive from TD.

Fans of Belichick the garbage talk like that Brady would still have the squad with any other coaches.

  91. As a head coach, BB has a losing record sans Brady, and he will continue down that path as long as they keep paying him. Quite sad.

  92. That is BS.

Brady threw 46 times against Chiefs and stayed on field for 39 minutes, the reason Pats even had a chance against Chiefs.

Pats ran the ball 48 times and ate up the clock that way. Running the ball is more effective at clock burning than passing. I’m not surprised you don’t know that though

  93. Fans of Belichick the garbage should think from different angles:

–What kind of team would Brady have with other coaches, like Jeff Fisher?

For example, the 1999 Titans contained Rams offense to 23 points in SB, but they had Eddie George, a future HOF.

BeliCHEAP gave Brady so little to work with on offense, of course Brady needed defense to win some of the games, of course Brady needed the defense to do something (against lousy team is the easiest part, get it, fans of Belichick the garbage?)

BUT WITH SO MUCH RESOURCE ON DEFENSE, LOT OF COACHES WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE SAME OR BETTER. What is in it so hard for fans of Belichick the garbage to see?

  94. The Ravens don’t even want Jackson anymore. Lamar Jackson wants his $250 million first, then he’ll be mad when the Ravens criticize him for not playing because Jackson has a hangnail or gas pains. If I were the Ravens I’d trade him to the CFL.

The Brady dynasty ended when he finally had a head coach that wasn’t elite or even good. ZERO winning seasons without such a coach,

Get outta here with that GOAT garbage. Not even top 20.
    ————-
Well, Belichick dynasty never was since he’s the very definition of mediocre without Brady on the field. At least Brady won a Super Bowl without belichick and played in playoffs all three years. What has belichick done? I’ll wait…

    —-
Brady won a Super Bowl because his elite defense won it for him. Fact. Almost any QB could have won when the other team gets held to 9 points.

And did you really credit Brady for making the playoffs with a losing record? lolololololololol. lololol. lol. lol. lol. lolololololol

Brady won the Super Bowl because his elite defense won it for him. Lol ok.
His stats from the Super Bowl:
    21/29 (72%) 201 yards 3 TD, QBR: 76, passer rating: 125

Yeah, that does look like he was just carried by the D.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting to hear how much winning belichick has done without Brady, as a head coach.

The Patriots won a Super Bowl with a great playoff run from Sony,

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

    That is BS.

Brady threw 46 times against Chiefs and stayed on field for 39 minutes, the reason Pats even had a chance against Chiefs.
    ————————-
The reason Pats had a chance against the Chiefs was Brady choking the game away but Dee Ford bailed him out when he was lined up offside.

  97. If I am an interested team, I strike a deal with Lamar but then tell him we’re not announcing this until after the draft. Then, the draft picks going to Baltimore (if they don’t match) are in ’24 and ’25, instead of ’23 and ’24. If it was New England, for example, instead of giving up 14 now I’m giving up a lower pick (expecting to be a better team with Lamar) next year and the year after. That’s closer to two second round picks based on present value.

If the entire game rode on a single guy lining up offsides on a single play, then no one had choked anything away, that is a real close game if thats the situation. I leave it to others if they want to consider the lining up offsides itself as choking it it really did decide the game as you suggest.

Pats had chance because Brady played 39 minutes, it doesn’t mean 39 min guaranteed the win.

Pats wouldn’t even have chance with any other QB. What part of it don’t you understand?

Sure it was a choke. Brady threw a game losing pick and it was nullified by an egregious mistake by Dee Ford.

  101. Lotta people on here that don’t actually watch football or have a valid opinion. Now I’m not saying Lamar is coming to the pats but lets not pretend Mac Jones is anywhere close to a better option. People love making the dumb RB jokes but Lamar is tied with Roethlisberger for most games with a perfect passer rating in the same season, he also led the NFL in passing TDs in 2019.Combine a perfectly capable passer with the fact that his run game is absolutely explosive (most games with 100 rushing yards by a quarterback , Most 1,000-yard rushing seasons by a quarterback, most single-season rushing yards by a quarterback) you would have to be blind or have some kind of ulterior motives not to recognize how much he would improve the team.

  102. I would have thought this story would have come out with regard to Rodgers, not Jackson. The cost for Jackson is too steep. Rodgers contract was digestible in 15 mil increments against the cap. The draft compensation was thought to be lower due to Rodgers contract impact in Green Bay, and his age. That’s until the Packers and Jets got down to the nitty gritty and the Packers started asking for more. If the compensation is ever reasonable, I could see the Patriots stepping in there for a 3 year contract. Belichick and Rodgers share a short timeline to accomplish their goals. Last season has to have Belichick wondering how long he might have to coach to set the NFL wins records without a proven NFL QB. It’s unlikely at this point due to the fact that many QB slots have been filled and they would not have the same market for trading Mac, were that to be what they wanted to do. So it’s kind of late for this. It’s just talk. The jets and Pack will work it out and Jackson will be back in Bmore.

Damn good for the new “basement dwelling” team.

  104. Pats ran the ball 48 times and ate up the clock that way. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LOL, if a small RB could have done it, why didn’t other teams do it, huh?

——- You make it too easy…Other teams did do it…look at the last 7 games the Chiefs played that year They gave up 171,194,119,210,127, 87, and 176 yards on the ground They gave up 33,24, 29,38, 3, 13, and 37 points They went 4-3 in that stretch Everyone ran against them and that’s why they didn’t advance, because they couldn’t stop the run.

Brady choked and threw a game losing and season ending pick and fortunately for him it was nullified by Dee Ford lining up offside. I don’t think that’s difficult to understand at all.

And that last part is supposed to be special? Almost all teams would be less likely to win a football game without their starting QB.

  106. Brady won the Super Bowl because his elite defense won it for him. Lol ok.

    ——————-
His defense (who bailed him out in Lambeau) held Mahomes to 9 points. Not sure how else to describe it chief. Tommy was just along for the ride, as he was for every one of his rings. Any QB could have benefited from that and won that game.

Tommy hasn’t won a single ring where he won it for his team. His team won all of them for him. There’s a difference.

  107. As for BB’s time in Cleveland, you should go watch the NFL Network special about it.
    ———–
BB’s time in Cleveland couldn’t be any less relevant to anyone except to the Brady cult still butthurt that he had the audacity to send Tommy packing.

I’m very happy that he did. I had enough of that guy and his pouting and whining to the refs and I probably would have to start cheering against my team until he was gone so it worked out well as it did.

  108. You make it too easy…Other teams did do it…

Ya, 39 minutes to keep high flying offense off field. Mahomes did it? Rodgers did it?

Oh, another offense did it, Giants offense in 1991 NFCCG and SB, which saved Belichick the garbage.

FYI, Pats defense during Brady’s era was WORSE THAN Packers defense during Rodgers’s era on total yards allowed.

    Not when it mattered.

And why is it, Brady is the undisputed greatest of all-time… so great, that you have to take shots at less great QBs?

  112. Average finish of Rodgers defenses – 15.4

Average finish of Bradys NE defenses – 7.1

    3x they were #1
    8x top 5
3x they finished lower than 10th.. 3 times, in 18 years, technically 19 with the ACL tear

… Aaron Rodgers played with 1 (singular) top 5 defense. With which, he won the Super Bowl.

  113. My only hope in all of this is that Lamar’s Mom and Bill Belichick end up driving each other nuts.

Could also be that Mahomes managed to score zero points in the first half. ZERO!!!

Games don’t come down to one play.

But that’s not possible. It’s literally all Brady and his teammates sit around and do nothing while the QB wins games all by himself! Or something. 😂
