The Texans are adding a linebacker.

Denzel Perryman has agreed to a one-year contract with Houston, according to multiple reports.

Perryman spent the last two seasons with the Raiders. He was a Pro Bowler in 2021 when he recorded 154 tackles, five tackles for loss, three QB hits, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble.

He was limited to 12 games last year, recording 83 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, a sack, and two interceptions.

Perryman was No. 91 on PFT’s list of top 100 free agents.

Perryman, 30, spent his first six seasons with the Chargers. He also had a brief stint with the Panthers in the 2021 preseason. He’s played 96 games with 77 starts.

  1. He was the best off-ball LB the Raiders have had since the ’80s. But hey, I’m sure whichever of “his guys” McDaniels brings in will be a million times better right?

  2. This guy was good for the Raiders. With such a porous defense, he was one of the few anchors holding it down. Big mistake letting him leave.

  3. It doesn’t matter how good he was. He was not resigned because he was from the previous coaching staff. If you’re not one of Ziggy and/or McNuggets guys, you’re gone. They’d rather lose with their own guys than win with any of Gruden’s or Mayocks guys.

  4. None of the Raider free agents that are of value to other teams have re-signed with the Raiders. Jacobs would be gone also if they didn’t franchise tag him. The players do not like McDaniels, same lack of leadership and honesty that he showed in Denver and when he stuck the Colts. If you’re Belechek you can be that way, lacking people skills because you are a proven winner. McDaniels is a proven loser as a head coach and maybe as a person too, Raider players voted in a survey showing McDaniels was the least popular head coach, now they are voting with their feet.
