With Commanders sale looming, NFL owners will pause consideration of removing Daniel Snyder

As the NFL prepares to meet in Arizona for their annual spring meeting, there will be no effort in the coming days to force Commanders owner Daniel Snyder out.

According to the Washington Post, the league’s owners will pause any consideration of voting to remove Snyder, giving the reality that Snyder is moving toward selling the team.

As PFT has reported, the word being used within the building regarding a potential sale of the team is “imminent.” The owners apparently are willing to let things play out.

It may not be simple, given that Snyder has been trying to get the league and the other teams to provide Snyder with a broad grant of indemnity regarding potential liabilities — possibly including those arising directly from the activities of the Commanders.

“The vote-out will happen if he insists on being indemnified,” a source with direct knowledge of the owners’ views told the Post. “If the deal [to sell the team] is just like Denver, that’s fine. But if he expects special treatment, that leads to trouble. The biggest thing that will lead to a vote is if he says, ‘Indemnify me.’ That’s the issue.”

The potential hammer comes from the pending Mary Jo White investigation, a card the NFL will quite possibly play only if absolutely necessary. If Snyder sells, chances are her investigation will be suspended as moot. If he drags his feet for too long, the owners may use her findings as the final straw for conjuring 24 or more votes to get rid of him.

Regardless, the sale process is moving forward. If, as it appears, everything is being kept secret, it could happen at any time.

  1. Pause? I’m not sure it ever got started. Not by anyone with any power. Maybe a lone wolf, but certainly not a pack of wolves.

  2. It astounds me how a guy who gets to live the dream of being an NFL owner can be such a tool. I mean you really need to work at it to be this big of a d-bag. How hard is it to just be a normal human?

  3. The sooner, the better kicking Snyder’s can down the road. Hopefully the new owner operates the organization in a respectful way and goes above and beyond to rebuild the relationship with the fan base.

  4. I hope Snyder gets voted out but I don’t expect it to happen that way. Many of the other owners don’t want the precedent set because of their own murky activity.
For the record, Panthers owner Jerry Richardson decided to sell the team on his own after allegations of sexual misconduct and using racial language became public, but he was never officially voted out by the other owners.

  5. Bezos should immediately buy the team from whoever the new owner becomes, at a sharp %, just to flex his wallet over Snyder’s.

  6. Dan was already been voted out 12 months ago when he was “suspended”. The NFL is smart enough not to drawl attention and hoopla to themselves. Dans fate is not on meeting agenda, because they already habe the answer, fhe league wants to save face ans make it look like a natural sale.

  7. If Snyder hems and haws for another year and democrats take back congress this turd is going to drag the rest of the owners into the toilet with him that is the real hammer.

I know none of the owners want to see a franchise sell at a discount because of how it affects their own valuations but the extraordinary lengths the owners are going to to accommodate this guy suck. Release the investigation findings and let the cards fall where they may.

  8. Ok, so Snyder has been a crap owner, but so has so many other owners. Why stop there?

  9. Ever notice how every time there’s an NFL Owners meeting, rumors fly that the Commanders are being sold?

  10. He’s going to drag this ou5 as long as he can, and he will be able to because he has dirt on the NFL owners and likely Godell.

  11. Poor guy will have to walk away with what 4 or 5 billion. How the heck can one live on that?

  12. Wait for it. The NFL will cave and give Snyder complete indemnity to keep him quiet.

  13. I bought the book Playmakers. I loved it, it’s a great read and suggest everyone read it. That being said, I doubt it’ll hold a candle to the book Danny will write.

  14. A pretty sweet deal he’s carved out: buy a team, act like a complete scumbag, do little to win, tick off other owners and the public at large, then walk away with billions. Gotta love the USA!

  15. Dan, do us all a favor and just sell the team asap. You’ll be alright with the billions $$$$ you’re going to get.

  16. He‘ll never sell, at least not voluntarily. The NFL needs to make him an offer he can’t refuse, if it wants to get rid of him, but something like that only happens in the Godfather on a movie screen. So enjoy him for another ten to fifteen years.

  17. Funny how this guy is seen as being punished due to a forced (or slightly coerced) sale, when in the end, he’ll clear 7 billion or so. No need to feel sorry for Daniel.

  18. there is such great significance to the passage of time when we think about a day in the life of our new owners and what that means to the future of our league.

  19. He’s getting billions of dollars from the sale, any potential liability damages would likely be far less, unless his conduct was far worse than is known. So why does he need indemnity?

  20. Many posters do not understand how Snyder would be removed. The NFL would buy the team and then resell it.

  21. The owners will never vote him out. He’s very litigious so he’d likely sue the league and each individual owner who voted to oust him. Use the discovery process to get information to attack the league’s antitrust protections. Then his lawyers could attempt to find evidence of collusion over the Lamar Jackson situation. It could get very ugly very fast. Now do 24 owners really want that to happen? Didn’t think so.

  22. Nothing in this article is even remotely true. The Wash Post is owned by one of the potential buyers. So dumb.

The league would actually save face by voting him out. As of right now, they look complicit in his activities because they’ve done absolutely nothing – other than 2 questionable “investigations”, the results of which have never been made public.

  24. How much ya wanna bet Danny boy was the last kid picked for any lunchtime recess games…
