Report: Ravens offer Odell Beckham Jr. a contract

Free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. met with the Ravens in Phoenix last week while the team’s decision-makers were at the NFL owners meetings.

They now have made an offer to Beckham, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The question is: How much is the offer?

A report Sunday indicated Beckham is seeking a one-year, $15 million deal, down from the $20 million he originally was believed to want. Two weeks ago, Beckham complained that the best offer was $4 million.

The Jets and possibly the Rams remain teams in the running for Beckham.

He became a free agent more than a year ago, but after missing all of last season with rehabbing from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13, 2022, no one has been willing to meet his asking price . . . whatever that is.

Beckham had a workout for 12 teams, including the Ravens, Giants and Jets, on March 10 to show how his twice surgically repaired knee has healed.

  1. I’m sure Baltimore offered him an incentive laden contract. It’s the Raven way.

  2. Beckham is overrated and delusional. I don’t know whom the Raven’s backup quarterback is who would be throwing to Beckham but I also don’t see them bending to Lamar’s guaranteed contract demands.

  3. The Ravens are going to have more washed up wide receivers on their roster than points this season.

  4. OBJ will take what he can get at this point. All he really is anymore is a name. He had a few good years and a bunch of mediocrity. He’s really not worth the headache or the bad influence he will have on the younger WR on your team.

  5. $6mil guaranteed with playing time and production incentives getting him close to $10 sounds about right

  6. Ravens have a poor drafting record with WR’s, but their FA WR signings have been solid…Steve Smith, Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Jacoby Jones all contributed big over the years. But this OBJ offer seems to be a few years too late…his last good seasons were 2014-2016 when he averaged 95 receptions, and 2018-2019 when he averaged 75 receptions. 4 years of injuries and irrelevancy is a long time…

  7. he seemed pretty productive in LA. I see him as a good addition to a team with a legit WR#1 that has a drop off after.

  8. This must be harbaiughs last year. Desperate moves and getting punked by is decking who wants to be paid like it’s 2019.0

  9. This dude is either out of gas and knows it or is delusional. You didn’t play last year = prove it year. If Juju can do it, Beckham should be lights out in KC or Jacksonville or Bufffalo… but Baltimore? Not if you’re playing for a contract after this one. If he isn’t why would you sign him?

  10. OBJ may become the league’s first real annual playoff contender rental player. He’s not going to sign for cheap. He represents both injury and attitude risks that prevent a multi-year investment from the team side. Just keep working out into November and see who’s willing to mortgage the future for a chance at playoff glory.

  11. Wonder if this is a tactic (bring in a high profile receiver) to get Lamar to reconsider and sign with the team.

  12. That’d be the last place I’d want to go as a WR to play on a prove it contract. There’s no QB on the roster!

I’m sure Baltimore offered him an incentive laden contract. It’s the Raven way.

It’s also the smart way for a 30 year old receiver coming off his 2nd ACL surgery. Any team willing to give Odell anything more than a prove-it contract is taking a risk.

  14. Oh snap, you know what this means… Tomorrow or the next day, we’ll hear about how OBJ does not want to play with Lamar Jackson. And why would he? If you believe yourself to be a top tier wide receiver, why on Earth would you go to a team with a run first QB. This is OBJ after all. He wants targets. His contract, no matter where he signs, will likely include incentives tied to receptions and that requires targets. I suppose one could make the argument that OBJ would go to the Ravens on the assumption they draft a new starting QB, hoping to be the new kid’s number 1 option.

Doubt it. If Lamar is their QB, they really don’t care who the WRs are. If they are NFL quality, not much else is needed. I would assume the opposite.

The Ravens don’t need tactics… Lamar is theirs if they want him (in multiple ways). Clearly, nobody is coming to save Lamar in distress.

After years of his drama, I still don’t know what to think of this guy.

After 2 recent Super Bowl wins, I don’t know what to think of a “sad Chiefs fan”.

  17. Cool he can’t hangout on the sidelines injured during the playoffs with Lamar.

He probably won’t sign with the Ravens without Lamar unless it’s the only option. Players, coaches and analysts have nothing but good things to say about him. If it Huntley and the 6 touchdowns in 6 games offense nobody is signing up for that.

  19. It would be uncharacteristic of the Ravens to overpay a guy like him. Incentives maybe? Either way it’s hard to imagine they would pay him more than 7-8 million- especially in such a run-heavy system.

  20. Expect the Ravens to give him an incentivized deal worth up to 10 million but only guarantee something like 8 million.

  21. Given his history of wearing a $600K watch in an NFL game and other antics/behaviors, I would imagine Mr. Beckham has not been super smart with his money. He’s looking for one last big payday. Good luck.

  22. Ravens signed him only to prove they’re not afraid to sign players that are injury prone. This guy is too busy practicing how to catch with one hand that he forgot how to catch with 2. Had a ton of wide open drops when he was with the Browns.

  23. Hard to imagine any legitimate front office giving this guy more than a 5-7 million type prove it deal.

  24. So they tried to sign Baker and OBJ. Why couldn’t these two things have happened?

  25. The Ravens offered me a job to sell hotdogs in the stands, when I asked them to guarantee my pay, I was shown the door.

  26. Well, I’m not going to cast stones at a guy who torched the Ravens a couple years ago. Like 80% of you who trashed Lamar even though he whopped up on your team. Haha, all those wins came from somewhere. When I see this guy on film, looks like he still has it to me. You guys and your stats. He wasn’t no. 1 on the Rams, so how is he suppose to get 10 catches a game? Definitely, not washed up!

  27. I can’t think of any other fringe player in any sport that still gets so much attention because of a single play.

  28. Our local McDonald’s has an opening for a fry cook on the mid-day shift, OBJ is welcome to apply.

  29. Based on this report AND the lack of movement/gum flapping from Odell, one can surmise the offer was much closer to 4 than to 15.
