The Falcons were busy adding pieces to their defense in free agency and they added a a player to the other side of the ball in the first round on Thursday night.

With the eighth overall pick, the Falcons took running back Bijan Robinson. It’s the highest that a running back has come off the board since the Giants took Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick of the 2018 draft.

Robinson is also the first back to go in the top 20 picks since Barkley was selected.

It’s the third straight season that the Falcons have taken an offensive weapon in the first round. Robinson joins tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Drake London in an offense that’s set to be piloted by quarterback Desmond Ridder in 2023.

The Falcons also have impressive 2022 rookie Tyler Allgeier and veteran Cordarrelle Patterson in the backfield, so there’s plenty of talent around Ridder as he tries to prove he’s the right man for the job.

  1. That was a poor decision, not that Robinson isn’t great but RB’s are not a first round pick. Look at the Steelers with Najee Harris.

  2. I understand drafting a RB in the 1st if you’re already a fringe contender, but Atlanta is a bad football team. Love Bijan, but just a weird selection.

  3. Third year in a row to pick a super-talented skill player in round 1.

The first two have disappeared into the fog along with the team’s relevance. Maybe this will be different!

  4. He will not sign a second contract with the falcons. Should have taken carter

  5. The Falcons once again prove that you only have to have not finished last in your local Fantasy league to be able to make decisions like an NFL GM.

  6. Well, my Falcons do what they always do. Had the worst defense in the league last yr. and take a running back at #8. I know he was probably the best available at the moment, but you had Jalen Carter and other defensive player sitting there for the Taking. Carter went to the Eagles the next pick. That is why the Eagles are in the Super Bowl and we get to sit and watch!!!!!!

  7. Let’s look at the positive. The Falcons still need a #2 receiver, and Robinson is a very good receiver out of the backfield. I also think Jalen Carter needed a change of scenery. Me, I would have taken the CB Gonzalez, a historically weak position for Atlanta. But I’m not the head coach trying to bolster an inexperienced QB and buy himself another couple years as HC.
