Hendon Hooker has found his NFL home.

The Lions used the 68th pick in order to take the former Tennessee quarterback. The pick came just before the Rams and Raiders were scheduled to pick and been teams have been seen as possible landing spots for a quarterback in this year’s draft.

Hooker is recovering from a torn ACL, but his doctor recently informed teams that he is expected to be ready to go by the first week of the regular season. With Jared Goff in place as the starter in Detroit, there won’t be any need for Hooker to rush back for what will likely be a redshirt season if all goes according to plan in Detroit.

Hooker joins running back Jahmyr Gibbs, linebacker Jack Campbell, tight end Sam LaPorta, and safety Brian Branch as new additions to the Lions roster through this point in the draft. They still have four more picks to come on the final day of the draft.

  1. Wow, the Lions must have a 12 year old making their picks!

Glad my Vikings have nothing to worry about when we play Detroit.

  2. Not a bad move actually. They can get out of Goff’s contract after this season with zero cost. Puts pressure on Goff to perform like he did last season. And if he regresses, they can move on.

  3. Lions just drafted the best QB in this class and most of the Clueless NFL fans don’t even know it .

  4. Ack… My conments might read like scarcasim. There are nothing of the kind. I love this pick and wish Detroit much success with it. I like hooker a lot

  5. I don’t normally cheer for Detroit teams but the Lions have been down for so long, it really is great to see them show some signs of life. Plus Dan Campbell is a good guy and a fine coach.

  6. If you think Jared Goff played good last year… wait to you see him this year, with this fire under his you know what lol

  7. I would have loved to see the Texans pass on Stroud, draft Will Anderson at #2, skip the trade with AZ and then grab Hooker in Round 2. Getting him in Rd3 is terrific work by the Lions. Nicely done.

Drafting a solid backup QB for now with potential to be a future starter is a solid pick. The only loling will be Lions fans when they win the NFC North this year.

  9. Don’t sweat it, Detroit. I mean, even though some of these guys are absolute experts when it comes to horrible and/or wasted picks, they got that way by watching their own hapless team(s) blow draft after draft. When it comes to other teams, they just wishful thinking.

  10. Detroit is having a terrible draft so far, the day one grade is a C-

How can any Lions fan feel confident about taking a risky QB late in the 3rd. The Lions seem clueless and their locker room is a mess!

  11. I love this pick for Detroit.
I hate this pick as a Viking fan.
We should’ve maybe drafted him with the 23rd pick…

  12. As any Viking fan is disliking a pathetic Detroit pick.

The Lions draft has been atrocious so far!

VIKES are KINGS of the North!

  13. Many are saying bad draft. Not remotely let’s break it down. Gibbs most explosive player in draft. Campbell best linebacker in draft can cover blitz stuff the run. Laporta replaces hock and a true field stretching Te. Brian branch a guy that can play all positions in the secondary a very good player. Hooker the guy would’ve been a Heisman finalist if not for injury. Takes care of the ball mobile and throws a nice deep ball. Martin we needed some big bodies in the middle to stuff the run. At this point the only complaint that can be made is if we didn’t draft a wr. Other than that the rest is just whining about my guy wasn’t picked. Apply these pics to the team as a whole and see the big picture. All roads run through Detroit!

  14. Lions really screwed up this draft. They obviously are worried about the money aspect and how to solve the Goff issue. The people available at the 6 position were talented and they moved off that pick for a so so running back.
Hey Gibbs wasnt that good at Bama. I watched all their games and he was not a game breaker by any means. Swift is a much better player so they want to dump Swifts contract is what this is all about because they cant afford him.
Ruin the team over a contract.

  15. I’m a packer fan – Branch and LaPorta were great picks for the Lions? They need defensive help and they needed to replace Hockenson. Am I missing something? I think the lions are fine? You can argue about the QB decision – but they didn’t pick him high? Like some of the NFL pundits had him going in the 20-30 range which is kind of crazy – that’s the NFL. I’m always surprised what I see here for commentary

Wow, tell me you don’t know football without telling me you don’t know football.

Gibbs is an electric playmaker who is much faster than Swift. He had the fastest GPS time in the country last season, and anyone who has knowledge of football and watches his film will understand this guy is a gamebreaker. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess you are a fan of one of the Lions division rivals and are just trolling because you are scared of the Lions, and I can’t blame you.

  17. No one on here…including me…know enough to call this draft a success or a disaster. That said, the guy who said the Gibbs pick was about not paying Swift—a player that’s never given this team a full season—that, guy, yeah…he doesn’t know football.
