John Lynch: Seahawks had a really good draft last year, I think they’ve repeated it

The Seahawks picked several starters in the 2022 draft and those players helped the team advance to the playoffs despite low expectations coming into the season.

That postseason trip ended with a road loss to the 49ers and 49ers General Manager John Lynch thinks that there could be another matchup like that coming this year. The Seahawks had four picks in the first two rounds of this year’s draft and Lynch said on KNBR that his counterpart John Schneider “as good at this job as anybody in our league” while complimenting the work that Seattle did last week.

“We feel the Seahawks coming,” Lynch said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “They’re really good. They had a really good draft last year. I think they’ve repeated it this year. But the most important thing is that we continue to focus upon ourselves, and I think we continue to make our roster better. I think this draft class will only add to that. And we’re excited about our football team.”

The 49ers also won both regular season games against the Seahawks on their way to the NFC West title last year and the results of this year’s matchups between the teams should go a long way toward determining if they can hold onto the crown.

  1. Lynch knows how to give gracious answers that don’t blow up social media. Good on him.

  2. I wouldn’t say Seattle is even with the 49ers right now…but the Seahawks have done a great job drafting young players…Seattle hung with the 49ers in the NFC Wild Card game in the first half…but didn’t have enough talent to keep up with San Francisco. Seattle has improved their offense by drafting another running back in Zach Charbonnet from UCLA and the Ohio State wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Ngigba…the big question mark is Seattle’s defensive line….

  3. Seahawks are a solid second best in the NFC west.
    Wildcard bid and one-and-done again.

  4. Much as I dislike Seahawks and their fans they seem to be doing a great job in rebuilding. All NFC contenders better watch out.
Niners need to draft well. Got 9 this year but no high picks and will have another 10 picks next year.

  5. Neither team really has a difference making QB, so they need strong defenses. The 49ers are there, Seattle is not.

  6. He ought to be happy after the three wins last year. The hawks are now an organization that is happy with a playoff loss. Of course, they will be for sale soon.

  7. I’m not sure, but it feels like the Seahawk’s are about to demonstrate their coming dominance over the NFCW for the next few years. My guess is they will split with SF & be in the mix for the Division championship.

  8. I’m thinking that we might be on the brink of another NFC West arms race.

Purdy had 5th highest QBR last season. Take out the stats and he’s quite obviously made a huge difference on that loaded niners O.

Nah – Seahawks will be good/competitive but they won’t dominate. 49ers are already very good and rams are on the rebound

  11. John lynch will always take the high road but he knows the hawks are mediocre at best and the fans are highly delusional. Look no further than the fact they think geno is a good QB 🤣

  12. Seems to be a great draft this year, time will tell. But the biggest weakness the Seahawks have is the D line and its inability to rush the passer and stop the run. As much as I like the picks this year, we didn’t do enough to address the d-line and until we do, SF should be the favorite in the division.

  13. Wilson and the Broncos left the Seahawks some nice Parting Gifts!……

  14. It’s hard to replicate as good of a draft as the Seahawks had last year. With all the lofty expectations from this draft, it’s easy to see it fizzle out on the field. And Geno will be more of the second half of the season QB than the first half of the season QB – regressing to his mean.

They’ll be a tough out for mediocre teams, but not able to contend with better teams.
