Kyler Murray sounds off on “sickening” mass shooting in Allen, Texas

Multiple Casualties Reported After Shooting At Outlet Mall In Texas

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray attended high school in Allen, Texas. On Saturday, Allen, Texas became the scene of the latest American mass shooting.

Via WFAA.com, Murray took to Twitter in the aftermath of the incident that claimed nine lives at a popular outlet mall in Allen.

“This is sickening,” Murray said. “Prayers to the mass shooting victims in Allen, Texas. If there is anyway I can help those affected by this tragedy please let me know. When is this shit gonna stop?”

That’s a great question. In late March, we explained that getting shot and killed in a public place is just another risk Americans now must assume when leaving their homes.

It needs to change. That’s a given. But it feels like it won’t. It feels like this is a new normal. A bizarre, twisted, abnormal normal that is reluctantly tolerated because there is insufficient political will and/or leadership to change it — and because it ultimately happens to only a very small percentage of Americans.

But if it happens once, it happens too many times. And it’s now happening so often that all we can do to cope with this reality is feel badly for the victims, perhaps contribute money to their families, and wait for the next one to inevitably occur. All the while assuming it won’t happen to us or to someone we love.

Until it does.

  1. It’s called an Ammendment to the Constitution. Not happening anytime soon. It should, but it won’t.

  2. Take away the guns. Make Waco and Ruby Ridge look like a day in the park if that is what it takes. Turn in your guns or go to prison.

  3. This new normal has to stop, when ?? Who knows but a great place to start is more police presence on the streets and when these perps get arrested, no more slap on the hands. LOCK EM UP !!!

  4. The only way this will change is the law abiding populace arms themselves. Yes, we’re back to the wild west. God help us all.

  5. I’m sure the facts will come out that this was some career criminal with an illegal gun that no amount of laws would’ve stopped but don’t let any of that stop everyone from virtue signaling.

  6. Very sad, but nobody should be surprised.
The ballot box will be the ultimate solution.

  7. Make it mandatory for all Americans to be armed. Next fool that starts popping off- boom.

  8. America is nothing but gun culture. Look at football. He “rifles” the ball from the “shotgun.” It’s a shame we haven’t evolved. This will not change people and their gun addiction and manufacturers and their profit addiction. Go USA!

  9. If someone can open fire from a hotel room in Vegas, kill 60 humans, injure over 800 more while shooting well over 1000 rounds and nothing changes…nothing will ever change.

  10. “But if it happens once, it happens too many times.” That sounds like one death is a tragedy, a million deaths a statistic. Do you want to fix this problem? Legalize concealed carry. If these psychos have to worry about which of the people around them are carrying, they will either think twice, or get shot. Either of these is preferable.

  11. It won’t go away but nothing changes without gun control.

Gun control would also save many lives lost to suicide. Without access to a gun the vast majority of those people won’t choose an alternative that takes more time, planning and conviction.

Make your own choice, but if you choose the status quo you have to accept a degree of responsibility.

  12. It’s time to infringe on the 2nd amendment. Republicans have no issue attacking other rights; so let’s change what they hold sacred.

  13. Fun fact – Including suicides, there have been more civilian deaths from gun violence this year(13,900) than civilian death in Ukraine since the war began two years ago (8709). Take what you want from those numbers, but you could infer if you are just a normal person it’s safer to live in an active war zone with indiscriminate bombing occurring randomly than it is to live in the United States

  14. It boggles the mind that there are people out there who believe that guns are more important than human lives. It is ridiculous that some people believe that a constitutional amendment grants them the right to refuse any attempt to reign in violence. It is ludicrous that some people immediately jump to “an AR15 is not an assault rifle” as if that justifies the use of those weapons in mass shootings. It is shameful that some people cling to their guns as if they were their children while actual children are being killed.

  15. If only the criminals would obey the laws. Maybe we can make some new laws.

  16. But all the gun nuts think anyone should be able to own an assault rifle even thought they’re made specifically to kill other human beings. There’s a lot of very sick minded people in this country and nothing will change until that does

  17. 78 homicides this weekend alone in Chicago. Happens every weekend. Crickets

  18. Guns for everyone. What’s next in Texas/Florida?
    Buy one, get one free?

  19. Get used to it. It’s only going to get worse.
One side of government would rather line their pockets than care one bit about ANYONE that is senselessly murdered by guns.
    Excuse after excuse after excuse.

  20. Thank God for the Policeman who was there and shot the killer dead..

  21. There are basically 2 sides of the country with only a little middle ground.

One side wants simultaneously a disarming of the general public, and the standing down of police in situations of pubic group violence.

You have to ask yourself why is that, and why those two things together? Is the answer, that most people know, really just stupid crazy conspiracy theory about what it is they want to achieve with those two things in conjunction? We all have to ask ourselves this.

And the answer to this question is exactly why the movement to disarm the public isn’t going very well.

  22. Over 20,000 people are killed each year and a VAST majority are inner city shootings. Every single day it’s happening and there is no “national discussion” about that and how we need to remove those politicians. That’s because those leaders have a D in front of their name and everyone knows we don’t bring up issues or criticize those people. We wait until one of the statistical anomalies happen and then get outraged. To the athletes and MSM, your selective outrage is showing.

  23. When you live in a world that lives like there is no God this is what happens.

  24. Kyler asked.. When is this gonna stop?

When the culture time travels 60 years back into the past.

Way to much gun violence in Movies, TV, Music lyrics, Video Games (how many first person shooter games do we need?).

Over Prescribed population on supposed anti psychotic medication, anti depressant medication, and the list goes on and on.

All the illicit drugs following into the country. Fentanyl, Cocaine, or Heroin anybody?

The list is endless with the other culture changes in society over the last 50 years that I have witnessed. Lack of police enforcement and lack of prosecutions. Homicide resolution in places like Chicago is only 30%. 7 in 10 killers are not held responsible for their actions. Let that sink in.

The gun(s) are not the problem.

The current culture in this country is horrible. How do you fix 50 – 60 years of regression?

  25. There is something deeply hypocritical about praying for a problem that you are unwilling to resolve.

  26. The gun homicide rate in the USA was significantly higher in the 1980s & 1990s than it is today. Most people don’t know this because most people are ignorant and rely on mass/social media to form their opinions for them. In fact you are less likely to murdered with a firearm today than for the vast majority of the last 50+ years. The only time the gun homicide rate was lower was a period from 2011-2016.

  27. Frontier justice would be a great thing to implement. And by the way, guns don’t fire themselves. Look at the persons committing the atrocities, not the tool they use.

  28. Thank God for the brave officer that courageously ran into the line of fire to save others. We pray for the victims and their families and an end to the mental illness, drugs, and evil forces that cause people to commit such horrors

  29. In 2021 there were around 49,000 gun related deaths in the US and almost 107,000 drug related deaths. We have lots of control laws and regulations on drugs, yet have more than double the amount of deaths. Meth is downright illegal. Cocaine is illegal. Heroin. The problem isn’t the level of control we impose on the substance or the firearm, it’s with the individual who is going to find a way to get what they’re after regardless of its legality.

  30. Even if there were more restrictions placed on obtaining guns,it doesn’t matter. Why? Because of all of the people who already have them. Assault weapons in particular. There are mentally ill people out there in possession of them, but we are not even aware that they exist, until they do something like this. How do you fix that? It’s nearly impossible. Mike Florio is right… this seems to be our new normal, sadly.

  31. US gun violence is horrific but I do want to correct the statistic posted above about Ukraine from psubeerman21.
“Fun fact – Including suicides, there have been more civilian deaths from gun violence this year(13,900) than civilian death in Ukraine since the war began two years ago (8709).”
He then concludes that it is safer to live in Ukraine than in the United States. However, the population of Ukraine is 47 million, and the population of the United States is 332 million. Comparing raw numbers like this is not generally a good idea, and you want to instead focus on a per-thousand or something similar.

  32. Keep your useless prayers and take a meaningful action for once.

  33. People that commit these acts are mentally deranged, unstable, bi-polar, and psychopathic. We used to have asylums/institutions in this country where we put people like that. But we had to start shutting them down 40-50 years ago. So now, instead of treating these individuals how they should be, we have passed the buck to society and police to deal with them AFTER they’ve committed violence. If anything, it’s acts like these that make me want to own MORE guns and ammunition.

  34. The system releases violent career criminals with a history of gun violence onto the streets every day. Politicians refuse to enforce the laws we have. Let’s start enforcing our current laws and then think about adding something additional.

Wow. That’s terrible! As someone who lives in one of the safest major cities in the world, I can’t imagine that.

  36. You can take guns away from from Americans but that won’t fix anything. America has a huge mental illness problem disguised as a gun issue. Also if we can’t secure our borders from from drugs and people getting through than guns would be coming through as well (more than what they are). Our criminal justice system is too soft and criminals do not fear anymore. I am 100% in support of further mental health restrictions on buying firearms or upping the age limit but to think that taking all the hard working honest owners guns isn’t a real solution.

  37. More guns isn’t the answer. It’s the problem. Mass shooters have to know theyre gonna get killed. No law will deter that. This is an American problem because it’s so easy for anyone to buy a gun. Other countries don’t have this issue because they make it harder to get a gun.

  38. The way to stop 90% of mass shootings isn’t gun control. It’s bringing back mental hospitals for those who need it. Before this medical care was deemed “cruel” mass shootings barely existed outside of the crime sphere. Unfortunately there’s a small segment of society that shouldn’t be walking the street.

  39. Yes gun control. Now those are rules these criminals will follow. They wouldn’t dare possess a gun if it were illegal to do so.

  40. I am curious about the 78 deaths in Chicago this weekend number. From the Chicago Sun-Times they have three over the past week vastly different than the 78, which is still too many.

I am for gun control, but recognize the challenges in getting that enacted. But at least those people are offering solutions. The other side goes on about mental health. Please offer some mental health solutions and provide funding to get those measures enacted.

    ———————————————————————————-
So you’re saying our combat zone is safer than their combat zone? While that’s true, that doesn’t say much and misses the larger issue. That’s like a city bragging that it has a lower murder rate than St. Louis. Not really something to hang your hat on. What is absolutely, unequivocally true is that as the number of guns has increased in this country, so has the number of gun deaths.

  42. It is going to end soon. It will take something other than a normal human being to stop it.

  43. The answer isn’t to take away all guns, although that’s worked in about every other civilized country in the world. Even if we simply ban assault rifles and their ilk the numbers killed would drop dramatically. The assault rifle ban under Clinton, though really toothless from what it could or should have been, showed that both deaths and number of shootings dropped as a result.

  44. I have three guns. I’m still waiting for them to go off on a killing spree. So far they’re well behaved. People however, can’t vouch for them.

  45. I did a quick google search on “gun deaths per 100000” and found a list done by Drexel University.
This showed the most the lowest rates of gun deaths in NY, SF, San Jose, Boston. Seattle, San Diego, LA, Long Beach, El Paso, Austin. All these were below the average of 12 per 100,000 for the US.
Here in Canada the numbers are much lower. .78 per 100,000 average. It’s not that people don’t own guns in Canada. Hunting is popular here, but assault rifles are not allowed.
Is it the culture, and if so, what is better about the culture in Canada? Or is it the laws?

  46. Laws won’t stop this. For those thinking we need more laws. You understand, that everyone understands, that killing people is against the law. People willing to commit murder and shooting random people are well past caring about laws.

  47. It is scary and sad how many people don’t understand the reason for the 2nd amendment.

  48. Kyler Murray had his right to voice his opinion due to his freedoms provided by the first amendment because of his freedom provided by the second amendment.

  49. All of us would agree on the goal: Fewer deaths by gunfire.
Progress is possible. Perfection is not.
How about each of us think about a way to make progress toward fewer deaths by gunfire?
Pleasse review your list and share the ideas that you believe 65& of gun owner would agree with.
    I’ll start.
    1) All new firearms must be hand cycled between shoots. Hand cycling could be by a lever action, pump or a bolt action. Or a different clever solution that can not be easily modified back to sei automatic. (Reduce the # of deaths per shooting incident)
2)Add a 10% federal on bullets to be given directly to State legislatures for to fund universal gun safety training in that’s states high schools. (Reduce the number of accidental shootings, especially in homes)
    3) Create liability laws that hold the gun owner civilly (not criminally) responsible for damages caused by their gun unless it was “honest to God securely stored” Gun owners can buy insurance or not to protect them from liability.

    Your turn.
I think 60% of gun owners would agree with this idea to decrease gun deaths.

    Try solve.
USA already has the highest prison population in the world with the longest average sentences.
There are no consistent laws about training in gun safety.
Civil liability for negligence in general is a well established way to decrease public safety.
As fast as I know, there are no laws to actually help people who are wounded by gunfire.

  50. There has to be some common sense answers that the majority can agree upon or at least meet in the middle.

We have to actually want to solve this problem, though.

  51. Countries that prohibit guns have similar issues (less frequent though). The hand-to-hand style attacks result in less deaths and injuries, so that is the only theoretical benefit—reducing the impact. It doesn’t address the cause.

There are multiple larger issues causing these problems. We have a mental health crisis in the USA (not the entire population). Our political parties (and therefore the government) are broken. The balance of power within the citizenry has been skewing towards the wealthy (the 1%) since the 70’s—the middle class is being eliminated. I can’t explain how dangerous that is; the middle class is the country’s engine, not to mention it buoys the country in many ways (politically, emotionally, etc). All of this results in disaffected citizens.

Despite all of its historical missteps, the country seemed to have a good heart. Sacrificing and doing the right thing had been constants. Now, I fear many Americans either adopt Gordon Gekko (Wallstreet) or Marco Inaros (The Expanse) mantras—pure aggression. The political discourse is fueling these extremes; political parties gaslighting citizens so they can secure and maintain support… all so these politicians can make themselves and their donors rich.

Many treat America like a piggy bank to be smashed and grabbed. The country is kind of financially bankrupt. We have insane debt.

I can’t say that I know how to solve it, but trying to take the guns away from everyone may cause more harm than good—it certainly won’t remedy the actual cause. Terrorists have shown there are ways to cause massive pain without a single gun. That’s what this is right? People so upset or mentally unwell, that they decide to share or transfer their pain onto others.

    Vote 3rd party?

  52. im a retired army ranger..owner of over 20 guns..many assault style..none of my guns have magically gotten up and killed people. im all for some form of gun control at all but its the nutjobs that are running around freely in society not the guns themselves..we dont take away cars because a dude uses a car to drive through a parade and kill people. yeah that happened. we are in a bad place in our society..troubling times for sure

  53. my daughter is pretty much anti gun, but since the country has a ton of nutjobs, she feels that the only way to protect herself is to be a gun owner. so what do you do? serious question.

  54. This isn’t the Wild West. They had more gun control laws then currently. I’ve been buying guns for 20 + years. I’ve watched marketing and the consumer go from hunting and sport to tactical weapons of war. I remember when mentioning personal defense in a gun shop was taboo ish. Now it’s all “don’t tread on me” BS. We don’t NEED them despite those convinced of the marketing campaigns

  55. Musket balls are a whole lot different than automatic weapons our forefathers hardly envisioned im guessing.

  56. 1. Background checks on all gun buyers, period.
    2. Like a vehicle, guns must be registered every year.
    3. All gun owners are required to take regular training. We require police to qualify that they can shoot straight, yet we let citizens run around with no training.
    4. Require all owners to carry liability insurance.

If you are EVER caught possessing a gun that is not legally yours, or you fail to meet any of the four above, it is automatic jail time on the first offense. If people want to be able to carry guns, which I support, they need to be held to high standards as owners.

  57. I think EVERYONE agrees 100% that mental health is a huge issue in this country. That should be the first place we start and then worry about the next move later. Mental health is important whether you like guns or not.

I used to carry all the time. I weighed my fantasy Vs my actual reality. The reality was I never once needed a weapon in any situation. I lived in Chicago, Memphis and Atlanta. 23 years of legal concealed carry and not one situation ever required a firearm. Despite the bombardment of constant contradictory messages that sold me the fantasy.
    That’s my experience.

  60. Kudos PFT for leaving the comments on.
If we’re going to debate this folks let’s try and avoid the comparisons to other perceived boogeymen (Chicago), what about isms to shift blame(mental health) and the classic do nothing because it won’t fix EVERYTHING. Hopefully people with only those responses will see the weaknesses in their arguments if we do. Stay on point

  61. @johnclark808

    My solutions
1.Ban online sales/transfer of guns. Many of of these are private sellers, not Fed Lic Gun dealers, so no background check is required.
    2. Background check o0n ALL gun transfers, even private ones. Only exception would be immediate family (Mother, Father Son. Daughter) and LE.
    3. Safe Storage Laws-We hear about responsible gun owners, so prove it. If there is someone in your home who cannot legally own a gun, guns must be kept in combination gun safe.
4.Red Flag/Extreme Risk Protection Order Laws-Anyone who is deemed by LE or Mental Health Professional to be a danger to themselves or others, has guns temporarily removed until they go before a Judge (1 week max wait time). Judge then makes a determination if the person gets the guns back or if the Order stays in place, Reviewed every 6 months if the judge rules guns remain confiscated. (We have this law in Fl). This solves the issue for those who scream mental health.
None of these take guns away from Law Abiding citizens. But also keep in mind that many of these shooters were law abiding gun owners right up until they pulled the trigger.

  62. Politicians are walking a tightrope on gun control. Twenty percent of registered democrats are gun owners so politicians don’t want to lose those votes. With many elections for the house and senate determined by slim margins losing a few percentage points equals losing that seat.

  63. It’s not a gun problem in America. It is an emormous mental health crisis.
Ever notice that almost every mass shooting is, in effect, a suicide mission? And immediately the cry is about guns, but never about over-medicated mentally ill people performing these acts?

The reason there is a 2nd amendment, like it or not, is because every government in the history of mankind eventually turned against its own people and started killing them to maintain power. The founders of this country knew this. You know it too, if you stop and think about it. History did not begin 50 years ago.

  64. Until you change the Constitution, you will need broad support on whatever gun control you seek.

Personally I’m for a Constitutional Convention. Because once its opened up, everything is up for a vote. And with the needed requirements to add or remove a amendment, maybe the virtue signaling from the gun grabbers will end?

With all this said. Those calling for Waco (dead children) or Ruby Ridge (pregnant woman shot in the back) really don’t understand the fire they are playing with. The Federal Govt is arming IRS agents because they need more Feds in whatever comes from bad decisions from DC. Those choices will and have had real world repercussions.

Good luck yall. Deport illegals. Close borders. Prosecute gangs on RICO charges. Lock them up.

  65. Prayers for everyone affected. More prayers going forward to change the hearts of people before they act out. 🙏

  66. You want to see something really sickening? Come down to south Texas, my State, at Eagle Pass, Brownsville, El Paso. We can sit and drink beers and watch thousands of illegal people pouring into the country every day, with crime and drugs, gangs & disease. And the end of this week it’s going to get twice as bad; so get prepared because this disaster is coming to your sleepy little town, America. And I suggest you arm yourself for what’s coming, because it’s going to be very very dangerous to you and yous.

  67. Would 65% of gun owners agree to ammunition being created with maximum energy per size?

Handguns: Maybe reduce bullet energy at the muzzle to 3/4 of what it is now for all handgun ammo?
Probably would reduce some “innocent bystander” collateral deaths while not having any real world effect on defensive effectiveness since defensive handgun use is at ranges under 50ft 90%+ of the time. (Probably less than 25 ft for vast majority of defensive handgun use but I wanted get to that 65% agreement rate from gun owners)

All firearms- 25% import tax on foreign firearms and bullets. Increased cost is an effective way to change some behaviors (tobacco, etc). No added tax beyond current sate taxes on USA manufactured firearms and ammo, including hand loads done with the US. MIGHT reduce the # of bullets used in school shootings, mall shootings, etc.

Can you think of something that might help reduce gun deaths and would would be agreed to by 65% of gun owners?

    Please share.

  68. It’s too damn easy to kill a lot of people at once today in our country due to the way guns are made and the ease of laws today. The problem isn’t those that are mentally Ill, because we don’t have the world market cornered on crazy people in this country. There are plenty more countries who have just as many crazy people but don’t have the amount of gun violence that we have.

  69. Last time I checked murder was against the law,so why are guns laws going to stop it?

  70. What was common in third world culture, especially in South Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War in Southeast Asia has come home to roost in the United States, welcome to uncertainty at all times. It’s not going to get any better only worst. Signs of the 21st Century America.

  71. A constitutional convention is a total (rap shoot. Only people in attendance vote,

Would you Real’s want a political rally to change the US constitution?

Just an aside: Would a constitutional convention allow open and concealed care?

  72. These only happen when the left is in charge just like violent protest only happen when Republicans have office.. That’s the real problem we as a society should be looking into..

  73. Those of you saying that the people need to be armed to protect themselves from the Govt, obviously have no idea how tanks, bombs and fighter aircraft work.

  74. Hi. I’m a democrat. I am in full support of gun control and would happily turn over my guns if I thought the rest of us would…especially criminals and mass-murdering nut jobs even if it meant saving one innocent child’s life. Since that will never happen, I have a concealed carry license and carry everywhere I go to protect myself and my family.

There are more guns in this country than there are citizens. You can’t unring the bell. So, I might as well protect myself and my family.

WOW never thought I’d say this but a realistic dem, maybe there is a glimmer of hope for the USA but I wouldn’t bet on it!

  78. Is a well regulated militia necessary to the security of a free state?

  79. Hatred…. Plain and Simple… One half of the country has been told to hate the other half!

  80. Let’s go back to when there weren’t mass shootings…. Say, 1996…. What’s changed so much since then?

  81. More like one half of the country has been told to hate anyone that doesn’t agree with their outrageous beliefs 100% and to never compromise on anything, they want it their way or NO WAY!

  82. I’m so confused by all of you. I hear that we need more restrictions for guns but we also need to defund the police. I hear that everyone needs to right to own a gun but can’t make a choice to have an abortion. It seems like everyone is using incomplete logic. The truth is, fixing this needs to start with getting people to understand that they are not the center of existence. That they have no right to bring harm to another. Until they believe that nothing changes. Gun restrictions won’t work without stricter boarder control. Legal concealed carry won’t work unless everyone is trained and assessed to ensure they are not a threat (though it is subjective). People need to learn basic respect for each other; just addressing the symptom won’t change anything. The 1920’s showed us that.

  83. More people are killed by fentanyl and other drugs that are already illegal. How come making them illegal didn’t solve that problem ?

Do you really believe that an addict gives a damn if they go to jail or die from getting high. An addict has lost the power of choice. The more powerful and efficient guns and drugs are the more they corrupt. Certain guns and drugs that cause mass destruction should be removed from society.

  84. It’s Dodge city all over again. Everyone needs a gun I suppose or take the risk of not protecting you and the ones you love.

  85. Gun deaths by suicide per year are greater than gun homicides, hands down. Look it up unless your confirmation bias is getting in your way.

That’s totally related and concerning. If we prohibit guns… will suicides decrease? Maybe. But people will still find a way, perhaps with less efficiency. But it wouldn’t solve the problem of why that decision was made.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see that mass shootings and suicide rates have increased in unison. The American life has just gotten harder and harder for many, meanwhile others’ lives have exponentially improved. Plus, everybody runs around like it’s an episode of Succession and we have to kill all of our competitors, damn the ethics and morals.

This is a blaring alarm that there is a problem in America, not specifically the amendments. But most fail to see the forest from the trees.

  90. Liberals everywhere!

It may be a played out narrative, but why hasn’t Kyler Murray been sickened by the gun violence in every inner city in the country? Every year? He’s sickened by 6 people being shot in a “mass shooting” in Allen, but what about the 212 people murdered in Dallas in 2022? What about the 90+ already murdered in Dallas so far in 2023?

Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, and Newark are some of the largest cities for gun violence. All four have some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

What are more gun laws going to accomplish?

  91. WOW never thought I’d say this but a realistic dem, maybe there is a glimmer of hope for the USA but I wouldn’t bet on it!

    ————————-

Um, thanks? Believe it or not, we share more values than you might think. Maybe it’s time to start focusing on the things that unite us instead of the things that divide us. I’d like to think we’re all patriots first.

Kyler Murray had his right to voice his opinion due to his freedoms provided by the first amendment because of his freedom provided by the second amendment

    ======

Absolutely a fundamental lack of understanding of the bill of rights. The first is the first because it is far more important than your precious right to own a gun.

  93. I am so sick of people’s 2nd Amendment rights trampling my 1st Amendment rights. I quit DoorDashing because it became too dangerous at night. This is no way to live, and no the answer is not for me to carry an AR-15 while delivering food. Time for us to wake up and vote these rwing-nuts out of office.

If someone can open fire from a hotel room in Vegas, kill 60 humans, injure over 800 more while shooting well over 1000 rounds and nothing changes…nothing will ever change.
    —————
This right here. Stop with the political nonsense and come up with a solution. No more republicans this or democrat that. No more get rid of all guns or get more guns for protection. I don’t have the answer but these apparently aren’t it. Neither of those “solutions” stop the tragedy noted above. No criminal is going to follow the gun laws and I don’t want my 6 year old daughter arming up to go to school. You, me, and the rest of us need to come together and fight this as Americans and not as parties. That is the only way we will ever gain an upper hand on this crap.

America has a mental health problem, not a gun problem
    ————
I hear ya, but mental health is global, yet guns for everyone mentality and mass shootings are damn near isolated to the USA. So now what?

Fun fact – Including suicides, there have been more civilian deaths from gun violence this year(13,900) than civilian death in Ukraine since the war began two years ago (8709). Take what you want from those numbers, but you could infer if you are just a normal person it’s safer to live in an active war zone with indiscriminate bombing occurring randomly than it is to live in the United

    ———————-

Take what you want from these statistics, there are more people killed from drunk driving car crashes than are killed with guns. Do you want to ban cars or alcohol?

It’s too damn easy to kill a lot of people at once today in our country due to the way guns are made and the ease of laws today

    ————-

More people are killed by fentanyl and other drugs that are already illegal. How come making them illegal didn’t solve that problem ?

    ————

The government is doing nothing to stop fentanyl from coming into the country. Our border is wide open

  98. Looking at all the anti-gun control comments here, you can bet your last dollar that the gun-nuts hired by the NRA and the pro-gun lobby are out in full force.

It’s the guns!!! Every meaningful statistic which compares gun violence in the USA vs. other western countries prove it.

    Gun controls NOW!!!

78 homicides this weekend alone in Chicago. Happens every weekend. Crickets
    ———————————————

This is false. Spreading misinformation doesn’t help anything, and what does Chicago have to do with a mass shooting in Texas?

It should be more difficult for people to buy guns, and this country doesn’t take mental health seriously. That has wide-ranging effects from homelessness to mass shootings to other forms of violence.

  100. This is an American problem exclusively. In other countries that have mental illness issues, nobody feels the need to have a gun. Americans believe they NEED guns. An average person shouldn’t own a gun for protection, or even feel the need to acquire one. When you tell people they have a RIGHT to own a dangerous weapon, they will feel a NEED to acquire one. When you make it easy for that to happen, you get these tragedies over and over again.

The arms race doesn’t work and the numbers don’t lie.

Do you really believe that an addict gives a damn if they go to jail or die from getting high. An addict has lost the power of choice. The more powerful and efficient guns and drugs are the more they corrupt. Certain guns and drugs that cause mass destruction should be removed from society.

    ————

You missed the point. Let me spell it out: making them illegal does not “remove them from society”

I think EVERYONE agrees 100% that mental health is a huge issue in this country. That should be the first place we start and then worry about the next move later. Mental health is important whether you like guns or not.
    ______________

The gun promoters don’t care about mental health. You will never hear them advocate for mental health care except when mass shootings occur. They could not care less about those suffering from mental illness.

How do you know that Kyler is not sickened by that? And we certainly know that you don’t care about what happens to people in the inner cities.

Chicago, Baltimore, and Newark are surrounded by jurisdictions that have no gun control. It is very easy to obtain weapons not far from any location in the United States.

So how do you change it?
    ___________________________________________________________________________

Many many many things need to be done to change it. None of them will have much impact individually. The NRA will fight every single one of them tooth and nail. Together, they’ll all add up to something that stops a few of these mass killings and we may never even realize it. The biggest thing we need to stop doing though is stop saying “it’s too late to change it” or “changing this won’t stop that”. If one single mass killing is stopped, that’s a few people that get to go home to their families that night and its a fair exchange for the inconveniences someone is gonna complain about.

  105. I’m not advocating for it but the crime stats in Kennesaw, GA are interesting to consider.

No, let’s just declare that they have a mental health issue and that mental health is a huge problem while at the same time make it easier for these people to get drunk and drive.
