The whole truth remains to be determined — and thanks to several pending legal actions it possibly will be — regarding what Brett Favre knew and when he knew it regarding federal welfare funds that were not used as intended in Mississippi. No matter where it goes from here, Anna Wolfe of Mississippi Today surely never expected that her coverage of it would receive the ultimate prize for journalism.

Wolfe has won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in Local Reporting “[f]or reporting that revealed how a former Mississippi governor used his office to steer millions of state welfare dollars to benefit his family and friends, including NFL quarterback Brett Favre.”

Her “winning work” came from seven articles, three of which expressly mentioned Favre in the headlines.

Favre is both a defendant and a plaintiff in litigation arising from the situation; the state of Mississippi has sued him, and he has sued multiple media celebrities (Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe) for defamation.

Favre has yet to be criminally charged. He has consistently denied any and all wrongdoing.

  1. Journalism (objective) – the most important profession in the world today.

  2. The former governor is who misappropriated the funds. He is liable and should be held accountable.

  3. Favre did something ethically wrong, but whoever signed the checks is the one that should see jail time.

  4. Too bad she didn’t cover the Matt Araiza story, maybe the truth would have come out sooner.

  5. He’s actually using the “I didn’t know!” defense, he’s that dumb.

  6. Since she’s the one who originally exposed Favre, she should be expecting to get sued by him.
Favre seems sufficiently stupid enough to do that

  7. I think Favre and Snyder missed out on a chance to hook up while Brett was still active. There’s some real synergy there.

  10. There are no good guys in this caper. They stole money from the poorest people in Mississippi. And they knew it.

  11. the gov. for sure needs to be in jail, favre and all the otheres involved shouls also be appropriately punished, beyond just paying the money back. it is such crap , any one of us would have already been thrown in jail and our lives ruined. rich people are the real enemy, if regular folks understood that, we could get the power back, it’ll never happen thop, [people love to hate others for no good reason rather than address the real problem, just look at how we can’t do anything about school/mall shootings. refusal to address the real issue

  12. Lol. The Pulitzer means little. When Barry won one-why I have no idea-I stopped caring. It’s a sham award these days.
