There have been plenty of fireworks between the Bengals and Chiefs in the last couple of seasons and there will be some on tap when they meet in the 2023 regular season.

The NFL announced on Wednesday morning that the Bengals will pay a visit to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs on New Year’s Eve. The game will be televised by CBS and it will take place at 4:25 p.m. ET, so there will be time for people to get home or to parties ahead of the ball dropping at midnight.

Recent history says the game has a good chance of being a preview for another, more consequential matchup. The Bengals and Chiefs have tangled in the last two AFC Championship Games and no one would be surprised if Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes square off again in this season’s playoffs, although a Bengals win in Week 17 might help their chances of changing the venue to Cincinnati this time around.

The Chiefs have now had two of their 17 regular season games announced. They will also face the Dolphins in Germany in Week Nine, so Tyreek Hill won’t be joining Burrow in making a return visit to Arrowhead.

  1. I look forward to all the freakout about NFL games on NYE like we get with College Football.

  2. Surprised the Chiefs have to travel to Europe. So, now they only have 16 home games.

  3. Bengals fans will be so happy if they almost beat the Chiefs again. No one loves a moral victory as much as a Bengals fan. Cincinnati is famous a terrible football, Jerry Springer (Rip) and hamburger helper that they call chilli.

  4. The only thing that will help the Bengals against the Chiefs is the officials calling the game fairly without a clear directive from the NFL to do so otherwise. Bc that’s the only way the NFL’s golden boy and team have been able to beat them.

  5. Aside from the playoffs and Super Bowl, it’s tough to get excited about end of season matchups even with marquee names. The level of excitement in wanting to watch some of these end of season games depends on whether the team standings (as relates to making the playoffs) have already been decided, as well as injuries to key players.

  6. The game will probably be in the fourth quarter at midnight in the UK. Hopefully the Bengals will not be dropping any balls or making late tackles before or after Big Ben strikes.

  7. Should have done a primetime game so they could time the final play in overtime to happen at exactly at midnight like the Ohio State Georgia game last year.

  8. Do the chiefs ever have to travel to a tough road spot, like ever? Dolphins in London, robbing us of an arrowhead tyreek hill return, and making the bengals travel? THey will also host bills, eagles and detroit at home, and those are huge games.

  9. This game was scheduled too late in the season. If either team has the #1 seed locked up, expect starters to be rested.

  10. I would Love for the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs wait to present their super bowl rings to Chiefs players until this game. I want Cinci to stand there and watch the Chiefs receive their super bowl rings.

  11. Perfect for Bengals. Home field will be wrapped up so no incentive to beat Chiefs again unless it hurts KC for playoffs. Let’s GO!!!

  12. The disrespect continues. This should have (easily) been a prime time Sunday Night/Monday Night game. The league just refuses to respect the Bengals.

  13. This terrible news for Cincinnati. I can’t think of a worse way to start a new year than coming off an embarrassing loss.

  14. A good ratings game on a normal Sunday. Holiday games are some of the cheapest Chiefs tickets of the season to buy because demand is down. It will be interesting to see the impact on ratings for NYE.

  15. “Surprised the Chiefs have to travel to Europe. So, now they only have 16 home games.”

    Funny. Wrong, but funny!

  19. Should be a fun game, hopefully both teams will be healthy with a ton on the line.

  20. This is turning into the best rivalry in the NFL. Looking forward to it.

  21. Alas, Bengals will already have home field advantage sewn up so the game won’t matter much. Chiefs fans can hug last years trophy for comfort and cry into their overrated burnt ends.

  22. This whole tired narrative that games are fixed is beyond ridiculous. It’s an insult to every player and coach that bust their butts through OTA’s, training camp , pre-season, regular season and the play-offs. Just because you team doesn’t win, doesn’t mean someone cheated! The other team was just better! If you actually think this crap…STOP watching the games and go play some pickle ball or something, It’s just sad.

  23. The league is clearly pushing the idea of having a game in Week 17 that should impact most fantasy football league championships for a national audience, e.g. last year’s unfortunate Bills/Bengals game.

  24. Burrow worries abt the Chiefs, Chiefs worry abt Superbowls. By the time this game comes around, the Chiefs will have homefield locked up and the Bengals will be fighting for a WC so naturally the bengals will win the game and the Chiefs will win the Superbowl….AGAIN! Then the Bengals fans will brag that they are 4-1 against Mahomes and Mahomes will be hoisting another Lombardi.LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

  25. I personally don’t know Joe, but I can guarantee you he does not “worry” about much, least of all the Chiefs. With all the trolling KC fanboys Bengals articles attract seems like it’s the Bengals that have people worried.

  26. Gives Goddell and the Chiefs brass time to plan and pick which refs they want to give them the win this time. That’s of course if there is not a coin flip to predetermine conference champion ahead of time. Chiefs cant beat the Bengals straight up and everyone knows it.

Browns 0 Super Bowl appearances and haven’t had a 4,000 yard passer since Brian Sipe (1980). All you need to know.
