Jaguars will be first team to play two London games in same season

The Jaguars have played more games in London than any other NFL team and they will add to that total twice in 2023.

The NFL announced this year’s slate of European games on Wednesday morning and it shows that the Jaguars will become the first team to play two games in London in the same season. They will play their customary role as the designated home team for a Week Four game against the Falcons at Wembley Stadium and then they will stay on that side of the Atlantic Ocean to face the Bills in Week Five at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jacksonville will be designated as the road team for that game, but playing games in London in back-to-back weeks will only solidify the Jaguars’ status as London’s de facto home team.

The Jaguars are set to play in London again in 2024 as the final game of a three-year deal to be the host for games at Wembley. Given the team’s extended involvement in London, it seems likely that they’ll look to get another one in place once that agreement comes to an end.

  1. Has anyone even asked the players A-Do they want to play overseas games? and B-Do they want to play “flex” Thursday night games? It seems their union leader isn’t saying much if at all on this.

  2. This is hardly fair to the Jags players, coaches, and fans but I guess that doesn’t really matter in today’s NFL.

  3. This kinda kills two birds with one stone! Not only does it promote the NFL in Europe but it also gets Jacksonville’s name plastered throughout England which can only help the city/state’s tourism profile! I mean, have you ever been to England? The weather is absolutely beautiful for five or six days a year!

  4. Good timing for London, getting more of the Jag-u-ars just as they are becoming relevant again.

  5. People travel for work all the time and get paid much less than millionaire football players.

    ____________

Your point is well taken except for the millionaire part. Most NFL players do not make a million dollars a year and many will not in their entire careers

Two more fights they would lose.

The 1%’ers are the only players that can afford to fight the battles that need winning.

  8. Falcons and Jaguars. Basically North Georgia vs South Georgia (Jacksonville is very close to GA-Fla border). But they’re doing it in London. Money sure talks loudly with the NFL.

Wow, perhaps do a little research first before posting. The NFL rookie minimum salary is $750,000. For players with one year of experience, it is $870,000. At two years, it is $940,000. At 3 years, it is $1.08 million.

  10. Why does no one in NFL circles seem to talk about the competitive disadvantages a London-based team would have? Having to fly 10-12 hours and deal with jet lag 8-9 times a season for away games, for one. What about playoffs? Does a team have to fly to London for the divisional round or AFC Championship games if the Jags are the #1 seed? How do you even continue calling it the National Football League if it becomes INTERnational? This proposition throws parity out the window…how come this never comes up?

  11. As a Jaguar fan, I would much rather play Buffalo in London than in Orchard Park!

The last time I checked $750,000, $870,000, and $940,000 are all less than a million. The average NFL career is 3.3 years. Thus, most players are not making a million dollars a year.

To say nothing of taxes, which would be no less than 1/4 in pretty much every state. Some MUCH worse.

  14. Wonder if they have to file taxes in England for the two games they play. They have (for a long time) a pretty aggressive welfare distribution scheme going on there. Unless they get some kind of exemption, the players will LOSE money doing this (although the owner won’t).

  15. Move them already ….it’s a farce now. …….take the Browns or Lions too!

  16. PFT, we love you. We really do. However, the Jaguars are not moving to London. Please stop publishing this misinformation.

Since Shad Khan’s takeover, he and the city have contributed hundreds of millions into the current Jaguars facilities. Examples include:

2013: $63 million (JAX City Council) + $20 million (Jaguars) contributed towards the world’s largest video boards and new north end zone seating (with pools and cabanas).

2016: $90 million (JAX City Council + Jaguars) spent on two phases of renovations: Phase 1 renovated the club sections and added new end zone tunnels. Phase 2 included an indoor practice facility and amphitheater, Daily’s Place, that is literally connected to the south end zone of TIAA Bank Field.

2023: $120 million (JAX City Council + Jaguars) are building a new indoor/outdoor practice facility with offices, meeting rooms and much more.

Though TIAA Bank Field is owned by the city, the Jaguars will not walk away from these numerous investments. A new mayor will be elected next week. Negotiations with the team will follow. The terms of a new deal are certainly up for debate. However, one will eventually be completed, and the team will not move to England.
