John Schneider: Seahawks are not sure if Jamal Adams will be ready for training camp

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams suffered a torn quad in Week One that forced him to miss the rest of the 2022 season, and the team isn’t sure how soon Adams will be back to full speed.

Seattle General Manager John Schneider told Rich Eisen that Adams is working hard at rehabbing the injury, but might not be on the field for training camp.

“He’s doing well. The company answer is that we don’t know exactly the timeline. Very bad injury, very unfortunate for Jamal,” Schneider said. “He’s had two years now where he’s been banged up. We want to be really careful with his progression, so training camp I’m just not sure. We’ll see where he is when he comes in for the OTAs.”

Through three seasons as a Seahawk, Adams has played in 25 games and missed 25 games. He has played well at times when healthy, but he hasn’t had the kind of impact the Seahawks were hoping for when they traded two first-round draft picks for him and signed him to a lucrative contract extension. This year the Seahawks hope Adams can get healthy and stay healthy.

  1. A trade so bad, that cumulatively the RW trade barely made them break even.

  2. I’m thinking it’s more than “hope” he gets healthy and plays this season. If he isn’t available & at his elite level, then it’s probably time to move on from this situation. He may be signed thru 2025, but after this season, he starts saving significant CAP ($9M) if released/traded.

  3. Just release him already. Dude can’t stay healthy. Cut our losses and move on. He is the Percy Harvin of our defense. Albeit, Percy’s SB48 contributions will always be remembered.

  4. Realistically what are her chances of him not getting cut if he’s healthy near the start of the season?

Do you really want to pay him and then have him get hurt again?

  5. What a disastrous trade. I don’t mind GMs taking big swings but it’s hard to imagine any safety being worth 2 first rounders, even if the picks were projected to be in the 20s. Especially if the safety in question is mediocre in pass coverage.

  6. One of the worst acquisitions and contracts in NFL history. And somehow it didn’t cripple the franchise.

  7. Regardless this is his last year as a Seahawks. Mike Tyson’s Punchout had a character named Glass Joe. Ya Glass Joe.

  8. This is probably Adams’s last chance. Short of a spectacular, injury-free season, I seriously doubt he will be returning next year. Maybe he’ll be able to pull it off but I’m not holding out much hope.

  9. Joe Douglas had it and then blew it, stone cold. Wilson and Becton are outright busts along with Adams himself.

How Schneider wasn’t fired is baffling.

  10. Doesn’t matter. With Geno under center this will be another throwaway season.

  11. Every time his name is mentioned, it’s like twisting the blade of that horrendous trade. Most other GM’s would lose their job over a trade and sign that bad.

  12. Not sure what was worse..the trade and money paid for Adams or Santa Clara’s trade for Lance. Either way, big win for anyone not the Seahawks or Santa Clara. Keep up the good work you both are doing up there.

  13. It’s bold to swing for the fences if you are a contender which the Seahawks were but 2 first round picks is too much to pay for a safety

  14. Jamal Adams was an electric player, really a freak of nature. But those freaks of nature aren’t built to last and they typically suffer with ongoing injury issues. Deebo Samuel was heading in that same direction if the 49ers had continued to use him the way they did in 2021. A guy like that has to be on a “pitch count” to save him for the whole season.
The comments about Schneider are off base. Schneider had and has done plenty to offset a bad trade. The Wilson trade, Gino Smith development’s and signing along with the recent draft all showed his mettle. You can’t have your GM operating in fear, worried that one bad trade will be the end. Let them swing for the fences on occasion and judge them on their overall body of work.

What a ridiculous statement. So you are saying that the two mid to late 1st round picks the Seahawks gave up for Adams,(which has turned out bad due to his injuries), is the same as the TWO 1st round, TWO 2nd round, One Fifth round, AND Three players, Two of which are still on the team that Denver gave up for Wilson??….like I said ridiculous…..

  16. Jamal Adams will HAVE to play well if he wants to keep playing. No team wants a perpetually injured player. And Adams has to play well to have any hope of repairing that reputation.

  17. How Schneider wasn’t fired is baffling.

Pete has the final say on personnel.

This seems like a Pete move. Wolf-disciples wouldn’t trade 4 draft picks for a safety.

  18. Wilson was not one of the picks in the trade, neither was Becton. The picks were Alijah Vera Tucker and Garret Wilson, both young superstars. NE fanboy grasping at straws, and factually incorrect as always.

Makes sense. As a Pats fan, I remember how he destroyed the Pats before BB arrived and cleaned the mess up.

    Thats just awful…

Bobby Grier 1st rounds picks ’97-’99; Chris Canty, Robert Edwards, Andy Katzenmoyer

    That is truly awful.

  21. Wow, that’s a better record than Little Bill w/o Brady. Interesting

  22. Adams is a bonus for Seattle at this point…most Seahawk players this year won’t remember what it was like to play with Adams since new starters will hit the field this year…maybe Adams returns in October?
