Report: Daniel Snyder is lobbying the NFL to limit release of Mary Jo White report

As the last remaining days of Daniel Snyder’s tenure as owner of the Commanders move like sand through a horizontal hourglass, the question of the handling of the still-unfinished Mary Jo White report lingers.

ESPN reports that Snyder and his lawyers currently are lobbying the league to limit the contents of the White report that will be publicly released.

A Commanders spokesperson described the ESPN report as “completely false and a blatant fabrication by someone with no actual knowledge of this matter.”

Although the league did Snyder a gigantic favor two years ago when concealing the contents of lawyer Beth Wilkinson’s report regarding chronic and widespread allegations of workplace misconduct at the Commanders, the NFL took significant criticism for its persistent refusal to be transparent. This time around, the league has vowed to make the White report public.

“His odds of burying the [White] report are the same as his odds of trading for Patrick Mahomes,” a source close to Snyder told ESPN. “He can try to not sell the team, but that isn’t a real option.”

Ultimately, the question becomes the framing of the White report. It’s no coincidence that the White report remains unfinished. It won’t be finished until Snyder is out. And it quite likely will have a different tone and content if he goes quietly than if he drags his feet and/or makes a fuss.

On one hand, the ESPN report seems more than plausible because that nuance would likely be lost on Snyder. He would want an assurance that the White report will be more slo-pitch softball than high heat.

The mere fact that White hasn’t finished her report (likely because her client hasn’t wanted her to finish her work) should tell Snyder that, if he sells and exits, it will be a sanitized, kid-gloves document. If he refuses to go, it will be a flamethrower.

  1. Well, at the very least, Snyder can’t claim that he’s completely clean and innocent.
That’s the most obvious thing here. He doesn’t want the public to know just exactly how creepy & sleazy he is.

  2. Take your 6 billion and open up a po office focused on wrongdoing of nfl owners. Should be lucrative business

  3. Of course he is. Every giant D-bag wants to hide how much of a D-bag they really are.

  4. At this point, why does he even care? He has been disliked for a very long time and it is unlikely that the animus could any worse. The difference between now and a few years ago as he will soon have an extra 7 billion to make up for his lack of popularity.

  5. nfl doesn’t really want it aired either. it’s as much proof of snyders sleaze as it is of the nfl being complicit whith knowledge of his actions likely for years. of course they wioll never admit it and can pay Mary Jo to slant it however they see fit

  6. No doubt he’ll extort the other owners with threats to disclose their secrets. Sleaze until the very end and probably after, too.

  7. As a Cowboys fan, I’m happy for Washington fans. Living with that owner must’ve been hell. NFC East needs to return to the old NFC Beast days where all 4 teams were competitive.

  8. Ya’ll got what you wanted… He’s selling the team, let it go.

  9. Why is Snyder still worried about the report? Did he break laws that would put him in legal jeopardy if released?

  10. Heck, I’m still waiting to find out who (Snyder) leaked Grudens emails…

  11. Dan Snyder will set up an off-shore bank account called Goodell Consulting LLC in the Canary Islands, deposit a cool $20M and Goodell will make sure the Mary Jo White Report vanishes off the planet. That’s how it works

  12. Snyder seems to make all of his public statements via the Commanders. Can’t do that once he sells…

  13. The NFL is a collection of private businesses (except Green Bay). They are not accountable to anyone. No reason for any bit of the report to see the light of day.
As much as we all want to read it.

  14. Imagine committing a crime & your main “punishment” is to sell your business for 6-7B & after making that much money, you’re still complaining how unfair you’ve been treated

  15. What leverage does Snyder have to prevent the release of the White report? The only possible arrow in his quiver is backing out of the sale, which seems unrealistic at this point. Once he sells it’s in the NFL’s interest to hang him out to dry so Snyder looks even worse and they are justified in booting him.

  16. Bye, bye Danny Boy. Go flirt with your private flight attendants. Hell, if the price is right, they will comfort you.

  17. Anybody who believes MJW’s full report hits the airwaves at any time needs to put the pipe down. Protect the Shield at all costs.

Agree 100%. Why wouldn’t he just sail away in his mega-yacht or hang out in one of his mansions? He’s repeatedly shown that he cares nothing about what the general public thinks of him. Even if the report proves that he committed multiple offenses, i.e. sexual harassment, he can easily settle any claim.

Something else is at work here, something big enough to threaten even someone worth billions. Otherwise, he would take his $6+ billion, add it to his existing fortune, and disappear forever.

  19. Daniel, don’t worry. Nobody cares about any report. We’re football fans. Now that you’re out of the NFL, I have no interest in following any tabloid information regarding your life. We all have our own lives to worry about. At least some of us do.
