Quinnen Williams scrubs Jets from his Twitter page

Social media has become a tool for sending messages. And Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has sent a pointed one to his current team.

Williams has removed any reference to the Jets from his Twitter page. After the title “Defensive Tackle for,” there is now a stream of periods.

The move comes at a time when Williams is boycotting voluntary offseason workouts as he tries to get a new deal. Recent reports have suggested that a major gap remains between the parties’ positions.

The defensive tackle market currently has Aaron Donald of the Rams far and away above the others, at $31.667 million annually. More than $8 million per year below Donald is Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, at $23.5 million. Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne and Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence are next, at $22.5 million.

So where does Williams want to land in the gap between Simmons and Donald? That’s likely the issue between the Jets and Williams. And, currently, Williams is making it clear he’s not happy with where things stand.

  1. When youstart spending money in large chunks to the offense, sometimes you have to say goodbye to some great defensive talent. Its just the beginning

  2. Will never get used to the use of the word, period, in this context. It’s a full stop.
And aren’t the Jets supposed to be the new kings on the block?

  3. If the football thing doesn’t work out he has a wonderful smile and he is clearly imposing. Perfectly suited for a greeter at Walmart and he could passively deter theft.

  4. Let me say it one more time no defensive player is worth Aaron Donald type money including Aaron Donald himself. Just because some teams make dumb mistakes doesn’t mean others should too.

  5. Another professional athlete with the body of a man — a very large man — with the mind and temperament of a 12-year-old.
It’s one thing to believe you aren’t being paid fair market value, and to behave like an adult while taking certain steps to achieve a goal. It’s another thing entirely to (metaphorically) hold your breath and stomp your feet on social media.
Next he’ll trot out the “I’m being disrespected” card, since we all know “respect” is solely defined and determined these days by coin of the realm.

  6. Please come to Green Bay for the spring time. I’m staying here with some friends and they’ve got lot’s of room.

  7. With the latest team selling at north of $6B, I don’t blame any players looking for a raise.

  8. I wish I had a nickel for every time I scrubbed PFT from my Twitter page. But I can’t quit you!

  9. I can’t imagine having to deal with many of these modern athletes and their antics. Most of them don’t work as kids now so they’re getting more and more odd.

  10. And the first of many important dominoes start to fall because of the idiot signing of Aaron.

Fortunately I’ve lived thru this type of stupidity with the Jets previously (signing O’Donell and Farve) so I’ll live thru this one too.

But I won’t like it any better than I did the last couple of times.

411 to owners and future NFL GMs. If ANY team is willing to trade you a guy who was a recent MVP and has won a SB for them, you don’t walk away from that deal you RUN because they know something you don’t. Something you’ll learn the hard way if you pull the trigger.

  11. Who needs him when you have the Packers offense from last year that failed to make the playoffs?

  12. A Donald is an outlier. He is a generational talent. So throw him out. The other two should be considered the top of the market.

  13. Great player but wow, where did this DT market come from? Makes me think GB has 2 more years left with Kenny Clark and then they will no longer lay him.

  14. He is still under contract. Let him sit out. Rewarding tantrums gets you Kyler Murray, who the Cardinals will need to off load next year after they draft C. Williams. They have not even finished renegotiating Rogers contract.

  15. Williams is a fat slob who needs to be checked. He is NOT Aaron Donald nor is he worth that kind of money.

  16. He is currently under contract with a salary of $9.5 million this season. So he has limited power here. Holding out, means he gets fined. This isn’t like he was tagged and hasn’t signed the deal.

  17. He has no where to go…go ahead and sit for awhile. You’re under contract.

Great player? He’s better than Ed Oliver, but let’s pump the brakes going to “great”.

He’s not a guy you need to double of a game wrecker.

  19. This is the equivalent of stamping your foot and sticking out your lower lip when you don’t get that extra helping of pie.

  20. Why would anyone buy a players team jersey in today’s NFL. These guy’s could not care less about the team or the fans. it is all about$$$$$$ for both players and owners in todays NFL.

  21. Jest’s fans can thank Douglas for selling the teams soul for Aaron Rodgers 2 year rental – it’s gonna prove to be franchise crippling when it comes to spreading the money around trying to keep other players content. You folks in NY better hope this experiment works out because if not it’s likely to set you back 5 years.

  22. That’s all these guys have in life. How much do I make compared to others. That’s it so all you can do, once you get to being that rich is ask for more. Oh no they erased me from twitter what shall we do.

I think that Kenny and the Packers both have enough scruples not have relations with each other.

  24. Does he really think this will get him the contract he wants? He cannot be that dense, then again he did go to Alabama.

  25. Now that your team will be in the spotlight…stop playing to get more money….brilliant plan

  26. These defensive tackles make way too much money … another reason to dog it, get lazy and miss games due to preventable injuries. Meanwhile many very good running backs, bust their asses running, blocking, catching passes and fans on this site think 9 or 10 million a year is too much money.

There’s a lot of people not going to get that reference, especially people under the age of 60.
‘hey ramblin’ boy now wontcha settle down? Green Bay aint your kind of town!’

Williams is the best player on the Jets, he should be the highest paid.
    ———————————————
One mediocre at best season, two solid seasons and one excellent season last year. Best player on the Jets? It looks like you were sleeping last season when Sauce Gardner played.

  29. Please, Vikings! Make the call! We need a DT soooooooo baaadddd and would use a high pick on one anyways

  30. I’m actually surprised everyone hasn’t scrubbed themselves from both their Twitter page & the Jets actually

  31. Mr. Williams is late to the game. The Jersey Jets have not been relevant since before the official AFL/NFL 1970 merger, so their sorry organization was scrubbed long ago.

Jets fans always overrate their players. If the player is middling and wouldn’t even start on most teams, they call the player “good”.

If the player is just good they suddenly become “great” or a future hall of famer.

This guy is solid/pretty good, but isn’t elite. The reason why he is ticked off is because the Jets, media and fans talk their limited talent up.

See Jamal Adams as an example.

  33. The dude has zero leverage. And the entire AR situation is going to cripple the Jets cap situation over the next few years. This is an a ove average DT at best, takes off some plays and not worth anywhere near Aaron Donald money. As a fan of another AFCE team I hope the Jets pay him huge to wreck that cap even more. Trainwreck in Jets land if they do not win it all this season (which they wont)

  34. Quinnen is the Jets best defensive player on a team short on DTs. His ability to penetrate and force double teams makes the DEs and CBs jobs easier. The Jets pushed all their chips in on winning now and they have no choice but to make Q happy and pay him. Otherwise what was the point if signing AR?

  35. They were actually in Championship games in 98, 2010 and 2011.Maybe you weren’t born yet.

  36. Jets have 8 good D lineman. They can afford to let a guy sit who is under contract. Historically, paying DT’s big $ rarely works out. Haynesworth ring a bell?

  37. He gone get paid, they have two top flight QB in the division and a third that can be if his brain isnt scrambled fo-eva..scrubbing the jets from SM doesnt mean antyhing, players do this all the time now, and its petty and childish yes…but it means nothing. They will find a way.

  38. Probably angry that Rodgers didn’t take him to the Knicks game and went with Sauce instead.

  39. One good year and he wants to get paid too $$$. Let’s see how he plays next season

  40. Donald’s contract is an outlier much like Watson’s. All Williams needs to do is look at how Lamar Jackson’s contract compares to Watson and he can see how/what he should expect compared to Donald.

  41. These dudes act like a scorned teenage girl who just found out her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend.

  42. Classic Joe at his best. this will go all the way to training camp instead of dealing with this with a fair offer. Winning franchises figure this out before it becomes a problem.

  43. Super happy NE does not tolerate such BS. Your access card wont even work next day 😛

  44. Funny, but I thought it was all smiles at Jets’ headquarters. Quinnen is straying from the approved messaging that the Jets are something special now! LoL

  45. The Patriots were not immune to these issues. They let Chad Eaton go after the 2001 season. Asante Samuel wined until he was told they would grant his leave if he played 75% of the games, including the game in which he dropped a chance to secure a franchise a 19-0 season

  46. The AFC East is a brutal division and you need him happy in you are going to compete. Pay the man.

No, they would be screaming about tampering in that scenario. This is more like having your name dropped off that “in a relationship with” thing they do.
