Packers OC Adam Stenavich: Entire playbook is on the table for Jordan Love

USA Today Sports

One of the big questions about the 2023 season is what the Packers offense is going to look like with Jordan Love at quarterback instead of Aaron Rodgers.

Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich didn’t go into detail about the team’s plans when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday because he said the team is going to use OTAs to “kind of see how it all fits and once we figure out kind of how we’re going to attack defenses” this season. Stenavich added that he doesn’t expect the team to limit their playbook because of Love’s inexperience as a starter.

“Obviously he doesn’t have the playing experience that Aaron had, but from a playbook standpoint, I think pretty much all of it’s on the table,” Stenavich said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. “He’s been around for three years and has really attacked it. Even last year, you could see him come into his own, felt a lot more comfortable, so this year he’s really hitting it on all cylinders so I’m really excited to see what he’s going to bring.”

Love has run the offense the last two offseasons because Rodgers did not take part in the voluntary periods of the team’s program, but the offense was not being tailored to him in those years. That will be different in 2023 and the result will determine a lot about where the Packers are headed in the future.

  1. To be fair, he’s had plenty of time to study the past few years.

  2. Of course! It’s The Pack!

    And Green Bay has just been listed as the No. 1 place to live in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report!

  3. That sounds like a panic move, the glaring incompetence revealed from the Packers OC!

  4. Certainly, sounds like he’s getting nervous he doesn’t have Rodgers anymore…The Packers are going to be fun to watch get pounded on by their divisional opponents.

  5. Ya its a coloring book. Page one, this is a football. Can you color the football? Good. Page two this is a route. Can you see the route being run? Color it green.

  6. If Love hasn’t learned the entire playbook by now, he’s a bust. Not saying he has to have everything completely mastered on the field, but he should be able to ace a quiz after three years.

  7. I believe there will be a lot more plays that are QB Keepers and designed runs in the RPO options. Jordan Love has potential to run the ball even better than Arod did in his youth. Love is more modern in that aspect. So I don’t expect the playbook or the O to look the same or play the same way as previous years.

  8. The packers are bragging because a 4th year player finally can grok the “Entire playbook”. Next thing the grounds keeper will be saying how jordan love has made great strides in being able to find rhe practice field on his own.

    Has any player ever as been as fluffed up as jordan love by the packers this spring for at best ordinary things?

  9. Dang, give the guy a chance. He hasn’t even started a regular season game yet and he’s already being called a bust. Tuff audience for sure..

  10. And Green Bay has just been listed as the No. 1 place to live in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report!

    New to the No. 1 spot this year is Green Bay, Wisconsin, which has for a handful of years been located near the top of the rankings for its housing affordability, low crime and high air quality.

  11. Rodgers was nothing to write home about in his fourth year. All the couch-sitting trolls picking on the Packers are getting their tiresome and repetitive shots in now, before Love leads the Packers to a division title. The only reason the roaches have come out of the woodwork is because they know it too.

  12. Sure, it’s on the table, but (a) Can he read it? (b) Can he understand it? (c) Can he execute it? or (d)Living in WI, will he be sober during a game or as drunk as the crowd?

    _______________

    Textbook denial response.

    Watching the desperate and pathetic Packer fans rant is priceless. The fall of the Packers is upon us no matter how much you deny it.

  14. So Love is the poster çhild of the NFL this year? Catch ya later. I’m not watching this junk.

  15. The rest of the north has been dreaming about the departure or Rodgers for a decade and a half – now they can’t stop posting about it. But read between the lines, its not gloating – its terror. Their biggest fear is that the Packers just might have done it again. The possibility of 45 years of Packers dominance is just so frightening.

  16. LaFluer and the OC will be looking for jobs next year. It’s not the play book, it’s the guy who has to execute it.
    Packer fans have been in QB heaven, going from Favre to Rodgers.
    Welcome back to earth with Love.
    Start looking at Caleb from USC, you’ll need him.

  17. Division title? Stellarperformance, bahahaha. My money is on the Vikes, the Lions, or the Bears to win the North and if the Pack knows what’s good for them, they should just pull a Browns and tank 2023 at Love’s expense. Go ahead please and try to win some games and get yourself a middle of the first round draft pick next year. Every team will be getting better around you while you flop around like a fish out of water trying to save face on 4 years wasted on a QB that you traded up for while ticking off Aaron. Gute really screwed up by handing Rogers that silly contract that he couldn’t refuse because the Pack was desperate. It’s kinda sad, the Pack was in love with a QB that wasn’t in love with them so they tried to by love which never works out well. This disaster will be hilarious to watch, go Pack go!!!

  18. Again! Haters, with all the predictions, it doesn’t stop! Where are the predictions for success of your teams! Tell us if the Vikings are in the SuperBowl this year.

    “The Packers will fail. Packers fans are in-denial. They can’t win with Love.”

    You wish.

  19. In Minnesota, we know our captain Kirk has the 4 yard checkdown part of the playbook mastered.

  20. Has any player ever as been as fluffed up as jordan love by the packers this spring for at best ordinary things?
    ++++++
    Remember Teddy Bridgewater’s 3rd pre-season? Yep.

  21. Reading the Comment section tells me that Packers rival fans can’t read.

  22. Reading the Comment section tells me that Packers fans are delusional and are out of touch with reality. Don’t listen to those mean ol’ rivals and “haters”, look right at that lowball contract that the Packers handed Love and he snatched it up in a second. That two year contract screams “we have zero faith in you, but we’re out of options at QB, so here”. The Packers know full well what they have in Love after 4 years and Love knows he isn’t the guy. If Love was any good, that contract would of been seen as an insult. I don’t have to predict anything or listen to delusional Packer fans, Jordan Love’s contract for the next two years says it all without saying a word.

  23. Granted, they’ll probably waiver around .500 with loss of talent, but I got a good feeling Jordan will surprise people. The Philadelphia game was a great preview.

  24. Would have been easier if MCarthy was still running the offense, when every pass play was three slants and a hitch.

  25. Love is mobile and isn’t a statue back there like AR was. Playback IS wide open in todays NFL.

  26. “Smallest. Playbook. Ever.” Are you insinuating Jordan Love is too dumb to learn a thick playbook? sure sounds that way but no,its not the smallest playbook ever and he will soon show on the field that he has mastered all of it.

  27. What the Packers North rivals really have to say regarding Love … man o man, I hope he doesn’t turn out to be another Favre or Rodgers. They’ve been lucky for so many years at qb. He’s been sitting learning the system, we’ve needed a qb and we passed on him. He just may be the real deal and can’t do a thing about it.

    Here’s a reality check. Last year in year 3 of the Love era the Packers got down on their knees and begged an unhappy Rodgers to return after seeing what the team looked like in OTAs without him. The only way Rodgers would agree to return was forcing the Packers to give him a ridiculous contract. To recap, after observing Love leading the team in OTAs the last two years the Packers decided doing whatever Rodgers wanted was a better option then turning the team over to Love. If there’s a fanbase that should be frightened it’s the Packers having a QB their vaunted management clearly has no confidence in.

  29. Start looking at Caleb from USC, you’ll need him.
    ===========

    He’s not even the best QB in his conference.

  30. Rodgers was nothing to write home about in his fourth year.
    ===========

    His numbers were nearly identical to Favre from 2007.

    Hardly,… Rodgers was coming off back to back MVP’s. They thought he had some juice left in the tank and his head in the right place. That proved to be wrong. Trading Rodgers was the right thing to do for both parties. And the trade compensation will be helpful for the Packers future. Time to see if Jordan is the man. If he is,… great. If not,… we move on. Even Rodgers has said he thinks Love is ready.

    Rodgers was clearly unhappy because of the Adams trade along with the Packers cutting some of his friends. He also was unhappy with his contract. There was no communication between Rodgers and the Packers until they went out to see him late in the offseason on bended knees with hat in hand. Rodgers has a lot to say about many things but has proven to be wrong way more often then right.

  33. I am a Vikings fan and I won’t lie, Rogers leaving didn’t hurt my feelings at all. He could be amazing and Davonte Adam’s gave me nightmares. But I love good football. Not a blow out where I keep switching channels, but good, hard fought, games. Games where teams capitalize on every mistake. (Vikings Bills) . So I have no hate to throw at Love. I hope he is a solid QB and I hope the Vikings D is up to the challenge. I am looking forward to all the division games. SKOAL!

  34. I don’t know how well Love will play, but there’s little reason to believe anyone else in the division is going to be much above average. And riddle me this — do you believe any RB on the Lions, Bears, or Vikings is better than Aaron Jones? And if so, who is it?

  35. And riddle me this — do you believe any RB on the Lions, Bears, or Vikings is better than Aaron Jones?
    ==========

    When healthy, I do think Cook is a better RB.

    Jones has had some pretty critical fumbles in big moments.

    .. curious if the QB change leads LaFleur to go toward old school Shanahan ground and pound. I’ve wanted to see that for a couple years now with Jones, Dillon and a very good O-line.

  36. “My money is on the Vikes, the Lions, or the Bears to win the North…”

    =========================================

    I don’t think the Packers are going to win the division either, but WOW… you’re really going out on a limb with that prediction!

  37. To even an untrained observer the quarterback the Packers management no longer has confidence in is Aaron Rodgers. That fact is evidenced by unloading him.

    Make a note of it.

  38. When healthy, I do think Cook is a better RB.

    Cook appears to be headed for a release from the Vikings.
