The Steelers have signed receiver Hakeem Butler, the XFL announced.

He participated in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Butler, 27, had 51 receptions for 599 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL.

The Cardinals made Butler a fourth-round pick in 2019, but he missed his rookie season with a broken hand and failed to make the team out of camp the next season. He appeared in two games for the Eagles in 2020 and had a pair of brief stints in the CFL before landing in the XFL.

Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, Allen Robinson, Calvin Austin, Miles Boykin, Gunner Olszewski and Cody White head up the receiving corps in Pittsburgh.

  1. I always thought he shouldve converted to tight end, which he had for a short while with the Cardinals. That may be his best shot at sticking with a team.

  2. This kid is a good WR. He could make any team. This is a great signing for the Steelers, and another reason why you don’t need to waste high draft picks on WR’s. They’re plentiful, and often available at a bargain.

  3. Couldn’t make it anywhere else, so of course the Steelers signed him. Just like Allen Robinson. It’s what they do now. They collect garbage.

  4. Everyone claims to be a champion in the off-season but in the case of the Steelers, I think they have really done well. Of course there is the chemistry portion but overall it’s looking like a good report card for a new G.M.
