Orlando Brown on Joe Burrow: With a quarterback like that, the sky’s the limit

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said this week that tackle Orlando Brown is “everything you could hope for” in a teammate and the admiration is mutual in Cincinnati.

Brown called Burrow “super chill” and said that the quarterback is “always playing chess ten steps ahead of the next man on and off the field,” which is the kind of trait that makes Brown think there’s no ceiling on how high the Bengals can climb.

“He’s just cool,” Brown said, via the team’s website. “Very easy to talk to. Very personable. Very much himself around every single setting that I’ve been around. Friends, people on the team, whatever it is. As a man, it’s easy to respect another man like that. When you’ve got a quarterback like that, the sky’s the limit.”

Brown’s played with two MVP quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes in his first two NFL stops. Burrow’s success over the last two seasons makes it a reasonable bet that he could make it three in a row at some point during his run in Cincinnati.

  1. Chiefs fan here…he wasnt good enough to protect Mahomes so Chiefs let him go. Simple as that…Joe Burrow is more stationary and their offense is designed to get ball out faster. Eaiser to play LT in that situation. Mahomes is more mobile and the play develops longer and that his harder to block for in passing game. Why would Chiefs have let him go then immediately signed ANOTHER guy for what he wanted in contract who hasnt even played LT if Orlando Brown was better? Orlando Brown aint as good as advertised…

Sure, that’s why they offered him more money than what he eventually signed with the Bengals…
Whether Brown is as ‘good as advertised’ is debatable what’s not is that he’s still an upgrade for Cincinnati over Jonah Williams, and that with the signings of Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith the Chiefs’ offensive tackles are much worse the last season.

Nice revisionist history. The team tried extending him last year and tried bringing him back this year. Then they “replaced him” with a lesser player in a RT for a lot more money who didn’t even last until OTAs before they signed a guy off the street so Taylor could stay on the right side. Orlando Brown isn’t Orlando Pace but he’s A) an improvement over what the Bengals received the last few years at LT and B) an improvement over BOTH guys KC brought in to fill the spot.

Another Chiefs fan here… hope for the best for Orlando just shy of beating the Chiefs in the playoffs.

  5. Chiefs fans somehow seeing this as an insult to Mahomes in 3, 2, 1….

No insult perceived by this Chiefs fan. Burrow and Mahomes being awesome isn’t mutually exclusive from one another. It makes the game better!

  6. Just amazing to see how one player has changed the Bengals franchise overnight. It is going to be interesting to see if any of these newly drafted QB’s can do the same. I love this game.

  7. Actually, it’s the other way around. Mahomes makes LTs look a lot better because of his insane ability to feel the pressure and move accordingly. He makes up for their screw ups but doesn’t take the pressure or sack. So it ends up making the LT look better. Since he usually moves to the right it’s especially significant for the LT over the RT.

It will be interesting to see how Brown performs with a more traditional pocket passer. I am assuming his stats will come down. Just a matter of how far.

You’re 100% backwards. He allowed more sacks than ideal in KC because Mahomes extends plays. That’s Patty’s superpower but it forces OL to sustain their blocks longer. Burrow has one of the quickest triggers in the league at 2.2 sec, tied for quickest vs 2.6 for Mahomes where only Fields held longer.
