Aaron Rodgers tweaked calf, doesn’t think it’s serious

A report has shed some more light on why Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t take part in drills in Tuesday’s organized team activity.

Rodgers stretched and warmed up with the team before returning inside for a brief time. He returned to watch the rest of the practice with his helmet off, but could be seen moving with a slight limp while moving around the field.

Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that Rodgers is dealing with a strained calf and that the injury is considered minor, which is likely why Rodgers was out at practice instead of receiving treatment. Rodgers is not expected to be off the field for long, but no one will be pushing anything in May.

Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Chris Streveler will handle the quarterback duties until Rodgers is ready to get back into drills.

UPDATE 2:40 p.m. ET: Rodgers held a press conference with reporters and confirmed that he tweaked his calf.

“I don’t think it’s too serious,” Rodgers said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

  1. He played with a broken thumb. I am sure he will survive this. He looks in great shape but is carrying as alot of ego which can tweak your calf.

  2. Just get 65% of the snaps in and nobody in WI cares what happens afterwards…

  3. This PFT Member suggests that if the calf is at least 65% of full-strength, Rodgers has to give it a go.

  4. I’m SOOOOO happy that this happened to the Jets, they deserve it for being so ridiculously obnoxious all the time.

  5. As Aaron would say, relax. He actually tweaked it running away from the OTA’s. It’s the fastest he’s tried to run in 3 years.
He’ll be fine for the season…

  6. Meh…he’ll be just fine.
Anyway, he’s got to start 65% of the Jets snaps this year.
    He better be fine! 😉

  7. How funny would it be if it landed him on IR?

Like all those Wright Bros plane crashes. Over before they began.

  8. Those warm up stretching drills are such high injury risk.

  9. How many quarterbacks not named Brady have played well at age 40? I think Rodgers began slipping last season and I expect a big step back this year. The Jets fans are going to be disappointed.

  10. I “tweaked” mine last Thursday. Rub some Tiger Balm on it, take an Aleve, and get back to work.

    Best post of the day!

  12. Wonder if it was the same one he hurt a few years ago?

Hilarious to see the nutty posters who are already calling it a circus cause of a tweaked calf. These guys are going to lose their minds when the season actually starts…

  13. That’s usually how it starts when their bodies fall apart at this age.

  14. “no one will be pushing anything in May” …and he STILL tweaked his calf. Getting old sucks, even for millionaires with the best physical therapists money can buy. Gonna be a long season for this Jets team.

  15. Didn’t he throttle the Chicago Bears coming out of halftime with half a working leg a few years back 😀

  16. So…..they got 1 OTA out of him?

Well for Jets fan’s sake I hope he gets in on more than that

Who told you to put the balm on?

  18. Old heads remember Johnny Unitas at age 40.
It was downright sad & embarrassing.
Tom Brady is simply a unique individual. I don’t think it will become the norm to play QB into your 40’s.

  19. Darn — that’ll keep him off the field for …. how long did you say Jets’ OTAs were, again?

No different than the nutty posters who predicted the playoffs and a Super Bowl trip just because the Jets acquired him.

  21. It may not work out for Rodgers in New York. But Con Air 2 is going to be amazing!

We all used to do a lot of things “a few years back”.

  23. He tweaked his contract too. more of this and the Jets won’t want to be on the hook for 100M next year.

  24. I need proof. At his next press conference, please hold your calf up and identify the area of the injury.

  25. This is no time for Jets fans to lament succumbing to all that Packer trade leverage. Just forget about all those draft picks forfeited for a 40 year old QB. There will be plenty of time for regretting poor life choices after Aaron has taken 65% of your teams offensive snaps this season.

  26. I think we all knew Rodgers would not take part in the full OTA session, but the Jets should be happy they got him to at least participate for one day. That’s more than the Packers could ever get him to do.

  27. Hurt himself stretching, sounds about right. Over/under on jersey refunds is Week 3.

  28. He should have been using the TB12 method. It’s about pliability, Aaron!

  29. And so it begins… Have fun, Jets! Just make sure to keep him healthy for 65% of the snaps!

  30. Good thing Aaron doesn’t believe in foreshadowing, or any of that other crazy voodoo witchcraft stuff.

  31. This guy sure loves attention. The more the media fawns over him, the more he will do it. I’m at the “seriously, who cares” stage. The birds went to the big dance with a QB recovering from a shoulder injury, nobody crying in Philly

  32. As I have said before. The jet fans not only get Aaron Rodgers but about 20 tin foil hat packer fans. Good luck with that.

He started slipping in 2021 after GB foolishly gave him that new deal and didn’t quietly trade him after his MVP season of 2020. It was a major blunder and when you compare what Seattle got from Denver in the Wilson deal, it could be seen as a lost opportunity that could haunt GB for years.

In fact, that NFC title game vs TB was the nail in the coffin. Brady threw 3 INTs on the road (again) in a title game and Aaron was at home at Lambeau and still lost. I am not sure how that is really possible, but that happened. HOF QBs don’t lose games like that at home when it’s all served up on a platter.

2 seasons in a row, the last visual anyone has of him is him with his hands in his pockets, head down, walking back into the locker room and not taking accountability for his disappearing act. His ego is through the roof and he’s in hell’s kitchen for sports in terms of media attention.

Rodgers is no Brady when it comes to being in shape either.

This is what Pats fans saw from 2007-2012 in postseasons with Brady. Even some Pats fans refused to acknolwedge that NE’s best players on offense were underperforming under the QB’s leadership and play.

It’s why Garoppolo was drafted and why Love was drafted.

Rodger is close with Brady and ever since Brady went to TB after having a subpar postseason in NE, dribbling out 14 points at home, Rodgers also thinks he can do what Brady did and demand a trade to run from his 60 mil per year responsibilities in GB.

Brady and Tampa were lucky to get to that SB and to be handed 14 points by Goodell before half in that SB.

We all know what Goodell does and how he knows if he can promote 2 NY based teams, the entire league makes more money, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility to see funny business from 345 Park Ave with this.

But, he’s gotta stay healthy for Goodell to make his tweaks in games to help the Jets.

    ============

The game went from 14-10 to 28-10 in under 3:00 minutes around the half.

An inexcusable blown coverage on Scotty Miller.. Aaron Jones fumbled to start the 2nd half, Brady threw a td pass on the very next play.

18-point deficit. Thats a platter of rotten fish.

  35. His ego is through the roof and he’s in hell’s kitchen for sports in terms of media attention.
    ==========

Green Bay: fish bowl, every one knows you, you know them, 24/7 microscope.. lost his untouchable status due to all his antics over the years

New York: strangers he doesn’t know and couldn’t care less about at this point of his life.. doubt he’ll care about being page 6 of the Daily News, that was front page splash in Green Bay

Which would you say is worse? Or better, I guess?..

  36. People acting like young players don’t routinely miss time with muscle tweaks as well. If you’re fighting for a roster spot that’s one thing. But if you’ve got a key player and they have the slightest risk of aggravating something minor, you err on the side of caution. I mean seriously, OTAs are barely legit practices, and we’re four months out from games that mean anything. How dumb would it be to take a day-to-day thing in May and make into something worse that might affect him when they’re actually having real practices, or worse yet games? Just because Saleh coached under Shanahan, doesn’t mean he also treats them like sacrificial limbs.

  37. While I’m no fan of Rodgers you cannot question his toughness on the field – for all his personal faults & quirks he’s old school tough & unless his bones aren’t sticking out he’d try to play.

  38. So many sad haters on here.
    Chill your “jets”
Your envy and spite , is not good for your health.

  39. Calf injuries are usually a precursor to an achilles issue. I’m sure it’s nothing but you never know lol

  40. Has he been injured since that 2006 game when the visiting Patriots— en route to a 35-0 win — knocked Favre out of the game and then broke Rodgers foot in a backup role
