YouTube will allow “unlimited simultaneous streams” for in-home Sunday Ticket

For customers of the base YouTube TV package, each account permits up to three simultaneous streams. Originally, that wasn’t going to apply to Sunday Ticket.

It now will. And apparently then some.

YouTube announced on Thursday that, in response to customer feedback, Sunday Ticket includes “unlimited simultaneous streams” for home viewing.

Also, for streaming on the go, users will have access to two additional streams.

This means that, for people watching from home, they will be able to watch as many games as they want, if they have the TVs/devices to permit it — along with two extra streams outside the home.

That’s a significant development for those who intend to create the ability to watch as many games as possible at once, especially with up to nine or 10 games starting at 1:00 p.m. ET on a Sunday.

A reduced rate remains available through June 6, either via YouTube TV or the You Tube Premium Channels.

  1. You are watching NFL Sunday Ticket, only on DirecTV….words you’ll never hear spoken again, thank heavens!

  2. Amazing. This is a GREAT development. Account sharing will give affordability to those who need it which means more revenue for Alphabet.

    Will be interesting to see how this streaming model compares to the new Netflix model, which clamps down on account sharing.

  3. Sorry, but I’m not spending a ton of cash to watch the NFL on all their ppv platforms. I will be just fine. It’s not a life altering event. As Cuban famously said “pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.” The NFL is well on its way to proving this.

  4. Makes sense on two fronts.

    The obvious: get people hooked to an awesome product then slowly take things away unless you’re willing to pay.

    Second, I’m sure they’ll be serving up ads in some shape or form (pop-ups, banners at the bottom, etc). From that perspective, additional subscription doesn’t matter since they’re giving 9-10x more ads than with just one stream

  5. The interesting thing is that the people who complain about games being streamed have no idea what unlimited simultaneous streams means.

  6. This is a great development. Imagine being able to watch multiple games simultaneously on your television, phone, pad, laptop, and desktop. You can’t do that with your antenna or cable.

    The mobile feature is fantastic also. My twenty something son and all of his friends had YouTube TV last season. They could get together at any location and each watch whatever game they wanted to.

    Technology is a wonderful thing. It’s too bad that so many here refuse to embrace it.

  7. I would like YouTube TV to allow me to quickly flip between games on my primary tv, which I currently cannot. I prefer cable when watching football….or the end of basketball games.

  8. >The mobile feature is fantastic also. My twenty something son and all of his friends had YouTube TV last season. They could get together at any location and each watch whatever game they wanted to.

    I’m curious how your son and his friends watched “whatever game they wanted to” on YTTV last season when the only games you could watch on YTTV last season were those broadcasted on local channels and ESPN.

  9. There’s a scene in Casino, where Al Pacino as a sports-wagering advisor sits in front a bank of TVs watching games. Now you can recreate that in your den, I guess. It’s a nice added benefit, though I don’t understand all the comments about how this is account sharing. I don’t think it is, at all.

    I agree with an earlier commenter that what would be great is if YouTube TV would update their graphic user interface to allow you to flip quickly between games. One thing I miss about DirecTV (just about the only thing) is the ability to ID a set of channels and jump among them with one touch. I can’t imagine it would be that hard for YouTube TV to do something like that or, at the very least, allow you to jump to the prior channel.

    Netflix isn’t clamping down they’re just charging extra to do it which is the same as what Sunday Ticket is doing. Sunday Ticket is close to $300 extra, it doesn’t come with the price of Youtube TV so you’re paying for the extra screens and all 32 teams whether you use them or not. Netflix is giving you the choice to pay for extra households or not instead of just forcing everyone to pay across the board like Sunday Ticket does.

    Also never to be seen again from Direct TV stream at 1:00 pm east:
    ‘404 error unable to load, please try again later’

  12. How many neighborhoods have the infrastructure to support this bandwidth? Maybe the NFL can get the government to upgrade internet access throughout the country.

  13. I’m not interested, but I get it.

    The NFL does not, from a business model standpoint, need me as much as they need people much younger than me – that is, if they want to continue to be a successful juggernaut in the future.

    This is how the young crowd rolls. It’s a tik tok, instagram, whatever kind of world out there now.

    Pardon me, every game that was available on TouTubeTV last season. The larger point is still valid for this season. Many people can get together and watch whatever game each individual wishes to. That’s something that the anti-streaming dinosaurs will never understand or be able to do.

    Netflix isn’t clamping down…
    ______________

    Sure they are, we just had to verify our home last night. The Netflix crackdown has been all over the news.

  16. There’s a scene in Casino, where Al Pacino as a sports-wagering advisor sits in front a bank of TVs watching games.
    ==========

    No, there isn’t..

  17. That’s cool that will be allowed. If they were smart, they would use the the 1st week and limit it to one stream per account to test it out. Anyone in tech knows when you have new access to a new thing, without load testing it, there will be issues. Multiple streams means more connections, which may lead to buffering issues, etc.

  18. I have 1 television, a maximum of 4 video sources, 1 of which would drop and have to be restarted every time I switched sources.

    HARD pass. Not of the Brett Favre variety.

  19. I suspect Sunday Ticket is going to be a hot mess this season with a lot of unhappy customers. YouTube can barely keep the cat videos going for their users without it buffering.

    Read the fine print… they know your Network ID and will allow your registered mobile devices. You will not be able to share your Account. Netflix cracked down to charge extra $7.99. The real reason most of us in “the know” should worry is this product will only be shown in the US. Meaning if you were watching games for free on the Internet that were international streams, those days are over. The only way now is to have a TV streaming service with a VPN that has local servers to the area network broadcasting in the desired CBS or Fox affiliate area. For now, YouTube is out front, but savvy people will figure something out. If they priced this fairly, no one would be trying.

  21. Al Pacino as the “sports-wagering advisor” in Casino was great. One of Spielberg’s best movies.

  22. YouTube needs to update their site which still show the following;
    How many streams do I get?
    NFL Sunday Ticket can be watched on up to two simultaneous device streams.

  23. This reminds me of that scene in Goodfellas where Jeff Goldblum sits in a hot tub with Stacks Edwards and discusses his future as a sports promoter.

  24. Love this!!! Okay, I’m buying YouTubeTV. And will give everyone on here my access code for just $19.95 for the season! LOL

  25. YoutubeTV does not allow account sharing anymore as they have completely locked down their location monitoring. Unless you have a VPN or happen to be in the same area using the same provider, you will not be able to share the account. Ino order have to watch simultaneous multiple screens you will basically have to be in the same house.

    ===========

    Still can’t figure out how Danny DeVito didn’t take home the Oscar for his portrayal of Jimmy Two Times.

  27. YouTube requires purchasing Sunday Ticket to purchase NFL Redzone. That’s kinda crazy and unfair. I’d rather watch Redzone all day Sunday than the individual games. When I turn on Redzone I’m locked in and nothing gets done!

    There are no reasonably priced avenues for getting Red Zone. Either buy all of the cable channels including the sports package, plus a fee for Red Zone, or buy Sunday Ticket plus a fee for Red Zone.

    I fail to understand why you care one way or the other if people stream or not. I do find it interesting that you have started to name call which means that you have lost the argument, and reeks of childish behavior. Your arguments lose all meaning wants you start to name call.

    If people don’t want to stream, that is their choice. Why do you care one way or the other what they do?
